I hope this wasn't covered elsewhere (I looked) but the new goonies time attack has me stomped.. how do you sneak past the gates without the keys?

hmmm I assume slowmo/rapid pause.. i've played with it a bit and I'm guessing it has somethign to do with hitting left and right at the same time or a patern of alternating I can get mikey a little closer to a wall by doing so I'd try it on a real nes..but my copy of the game won't fit in my famicom converter just right (connector is strangely shorter then it should be) so no advantage ;-)

I tried it at 10% speed and I managed to do it. You try too. It isn't that difficult to figure out. But you can't do it on a real nes unless you can time your movements on 0.05 second precision (you only have 2 frames of room for hesitation).

Could someone explain to me how, in the 2:35 speed run of Goonies, Mickey is able to walk through the doors/walls that are suppose to require 3 keys each? According to the guidelines page, anything done in these videos should be possible (if not necessarily plausible) in the real game. The caveats for this speed run state "Abuses programming errors in the game" and "manipulates luck", but I don't see any signs of the game being paused repeatedly, or invinicibility being used, etc. So how is it done?

That rapid beeping you hear as he is walking through the door actually is the rapid pausing. Apparently it allows him to walk right through the door. Edit: After looking at your name, I thought you might be interested in knowing that I am coming dangerously close to doing a Cheetahmen 2 run (as far as the game is beatable, anyway).
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

I tried a search initially, but a bunch of Goonies II stuff came up and I didn't want to wade through it all. But thanks for the response. About a Cheetahmen II run: will you be utilizing the 'jump on thin air' jumping technique with the second (and third if you could access him) Cheetah? It would make a speed run pretty boring to watch from level 3 onward. Also it's possible to access levels 5 and 6 on a system but it involves powering off and on quickly. I've only successfully done it twice in dozens of attempts. Maybe it's possible with an emulater - but would invariably violate the submission guidelines none the less.

Let's get a PM conversation going about Cheetah, ok? I'll get it going.
