I saw the post for Starfox over in the Super Nintendo thread and it got me thinking. Would there be a way to make a run of Starfox 64? I'm not sure what the rules would be, but the game itself could make for an interesting run I think...

Oh yeah, that's also one of my favourite games. However if this is done it would be a speed run, right? Atleast I don't know of any re-recording emus for N64.. Also it would be more of an aesthic movie since it's autoscrolling. Well, bosses can be beaten in different times but still. Anyways, I would love to see this if anyone out there decides to make it.

I guess this game would be more suitable for single-level records, getting the highest amount of points in each level. Like that collection of BlastCorps movies. Or a run through the game, choosing a path that allows for the highest number of points, while getting a really really high score in each level (so the end score would be really high). Yeah, I would love to see a run of this game, if only because I played it like a maniac back in the days. I got a medal for every level, in both normal and expert.

I think I know the best route for optimizing score. Just don't remember it right now (if that makes sence ;P). If anyone is about to do this I'll just plug my N64 in and check it out.

Make sure you hit multiple Star Wolf members with the lock-on shot in the final level. And only with charged shots to painstakingly maximize ones score. >_>

Or use a gameshark... So what if all of my records are 99999?

I think this would look great. What would the optimal route be, for highest score? I always used Corneria-Meteo-Katina-Sector X-Macbeth-Area 6-Venom, and I think that would do well here. Though Zoness' huge amount of enemies might work out well...

As far as routes go, I think this is the best path for score: Corneria (hard path and switch) Meteo (warp) Katina (win and switch, but sit around to kill enemies) Sector X (defeat boss quickly, or is it possible to warp and switch here?) Macbeth (hit switches) Area 6 Venom Using charged shots without locking on would give the best point total if you can hit with most of them, with a few bombs in the high population areas (Meteo's warp area and minefields in Sector X come to mind). Anyway, if anyone makes any kind of video for this, I'll watch it. I suppose you could play on expert mode too, if you can avoid getting hit often, but that requires a medal completed game.

What's the highest score anyone has gotten? My highest is >1400 (I can't remember exactly what, I'll take a look later) going this route: Corneria -> Sector Y -> Aquas -> Sector Z -> Macbeth -> Area 6 -> Venom In case anyone's wondering, that was on an N64. :)

I think mine is 1700 something using the above route, but it's been years, and so that might be wrong. (Don't forget zoness in your route) Meteo is almost a necessity, with possibilities of over 300 in that stage alone.

IMPOSSIBLE ROUTE! Sector Z and Macbeth are parallel stages (stage 5). If you go to Aquas then you're missing Zoness for stage 4. Sector Z is the missiles ahoy stage, and Macbeth is the Landmaster vs. train stage, so pick one.

My top score on my cart right now is 1360:
CO ME KA SO MA A6 VE
150 287 116 108 157 315 227
But I do have a CO:157, and an A6:344 on my second place 1314 so my possible best is 1396. This is likely because I go to Solar instead of Sector X as my normal route, so I think I'll try a run and see how it turns out.

Hmm, I have an N64 somewhere, and I still have my "Lylat Wars" cartridge (yeah, the PAL version is called that awful awful name). I'll see if I can post up my score if my battery hasn't died yet... It's probably nothing special, though.

I just played a game just now (haven't played in months, possibly years) and beat my top score. I'm now at 1512. I stupidly destroyed the last hatch in Katina early, and didn't rack up the kills there, so it's at least 50 under what I should have done, but oh well. I recorded it, so I might post a link for curiosity's sake, despite it being fairly poor by other standards. I ended up doing Sector X twice too, because I wanted to check out the warp route. It didn't let me change course to Macbeth when I took it though, only Sector Z and Titania; just as well since I got more points playing through normally anyway. EDIT FOR SCORE DETAILS:
CO ME KA SX MA A6 VE
165 280 109 196 166 369 227

Man. This topic really took off. How do people record other N64 games? Like SDA's OoT? Was that just on an N64 plugged into a capture card? However SDA manages to make his games would probably be the best idea for this game, I think.

My record is around 1700. And I think you've gotten the best route. Just one question, which stage is MacBeth? Is that the tank stage? What's the name of the stage where the cat lady enters? With all the poluted water and that submarine as boss.

Zoness is the toxic sea. Macbeth is the train-chasing tank level.

Ah great. Well then the route should be optimized already ;) Playing at hard mode should add tons of more kills, only problem is that one crash means no wings and that could be a problem.

Sounds like this might actually take off at some point. Looking forward to any videos that are put on the web! :D

I'm just guessing that guy who got 3,577 is lying. ;) Still, >2,300? Man, I used to think I was good.

Wow, TSA, you have a lot of scores on the games i like! Anyway, back to topic. I'm not too sure how much i've scored, but i'm horrible at the game. I think my highest score was about 753, well i suppose i should say that it's my only score. I may like the game but i never really played it after the first time i finished it. I'm ashamed with myself.
