Post subject: Crisis Core first impressions, sort of.

I decided to give Crisis Core a try, in my never-ending quest to find games worth playing on PSP that aren't ports or remakes, when I noticed something in the second FMV: Sephiroth's Masamune is absent, then it's suddenly there again. In Soviet Squeenix, continuity falls out of you? As for the actual game, I dig the style so far. It plays something like FFXII without lengthy waits between character actions, really. They've done a nice job on the visuals, and I don't have any complaints on the sound, other than that I have to listen to it on a PSP. Zack reminds me an awful lot of Zell, which may be unfortunate. But all in all, I don't hate it. Edit: replaced BMP files with slightly smaller PNG files.

Er, yes. I copied over three dozen screenshots from the memory stick and didn't bother to convert them all. I'll rectify that momentarily.

sephiroth: don't try to find the sword, it's impossible. instead only try to realize the truth. zack: what truth? sephiroth: there is no sword. then you'll see that it's not the sword that blends, it's your mind.

you should have used JPG and the sword might have actually disappeared.

Interesting note: at the time of writing my previous post, I was at work, and the sword was clearly visible. Now that I look at the image using my old partially burnt-out LG Flatron 795FT at home, it's pretty much invisible. o_0

You should really learn to use PNG optimizers. I was able to reduce your original 215847 bytes and 296818 bytes PNGs to 143875 and 215684 bytes respectively without any loss (a total saving of 153106 bytes, or 149kB). http://warp.povusers.org/snaps/continuity1.png http://warp.povusers.org/snaps/continuity2.png

Ah, yes, I apologize. I'm using an old version of Photoshop whose only PNG configuration is whether or not I want the image interlaced. I'll replace my files with yours of better optimization. Thank you!

Btw, have you tried this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_of_War:_Chains_of_Olympus The graphics are superb (taking into account it's a hand-held device), and as for gameplay, my first impression is that it's quite cool.

I haven't, actually. I heard mostly good things about the God of War series, but never got around to playing any for myself. Perhaps I shall give it a look once I'm able to hold a PSP again; I managed to break one of my fingers last week, which aside from slowing down my typing speed by a tremendous margin has made it difficult to play anything that isn't a one-handed Wii title.

While Im not too big on FF7, I do really like this game. Zack also reminded me of Zell earlier on in the game, but as the story progresses he matures quite nicely. The ending is also pretty awesome.

I've been itching to play this so bad, just waiting for the GB release to hurry up and arrive. Strangely, when I read your first post I couldnt see the sword for the life of me. After you stated it actually was there, I went back and seen it quite easily. Power of suggestion?
