I went to Zophar just now to link someone to a Super Metroid SPC set, and I noticed that there was a new news entry on the front page. http://www.zophar.net/ It looks like they want to bring the site back from the dead. My first thought was "Whoa, can they actually pull that off?" I mean, it's a great archive for certain types of files, but it's really aged. My second thought was that someone from this site could apply as an administrator.

Miss it so much. I once went to it to find some Movie Archives, when I was young...

I'll believe it when I see it. Unless SwampGas transferred ownership, this site is going nowhere, just like it hasn't gone anywhere for the past few years.

SwampGas transferred ownership a long time ago. It was sometime before the final news entry "Here we are, now and forever" and the cat in the title were posted.

Did you know that Zophar's Domain is actually a rom site? Despite their history of being legitimate, their staunch Anti-roms policy, and their "ask for roms and get banned" facade, Zophar's Domain also hosts a subdomain that exists solely to distribute roms. Go to [URL REMOVED BY MODERATOR] to see the awful truth. Yes, I'm sure that acknowledging the existence of that subsite is probably a violation of site rules. But you can just look at their Alexa.com Traffic Ranks Page and see that 66% of viewers go there for the romz. [Edit by moderator: Removed URL. ROM URLs are not allowed here.]

... How in the hell did I visit that site daily for the better part of a decade and never knew this existed? I feel disillusioned. :o
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>

The roms site is actually new, only coming into existance in January 2008. It appeared while the rest of the site was in its dead state.

I've been to it before. Most of the archives are direct ripoffs of another rom site's archives, not even bothering to rename them. That is sadly becoming common.

Hmm? I've been under impression that ZD was the one others tried to rip off, at least before the hiatus. It was THE emulation site back in the day.

I believe that was in reference to the ROM archives, not the base site itself.

Correct. Sorry for the confusion. I'd name where they came from, but I believe that site is planning on coming back. Might be wrong, though. I don't want to accidentally break the rules...
