Hi everyone,
I am a huge admirer of TAS's, especially for Super Mario 64. So, I decided to give it a shot. I went to the place to download Mupen64, and got it. (Windows, version 0.5.1) Next, I got a game (Super Mario 64) from DGEmu. So, I booted it up, and great fun was had... for 3 minutes. The controls were frustrating, and I couldn't even properly lobby BLJ (funny, as I can do it on my N64). So, I looked around for how to do Frame by frame, slow motion, etc. And found the FAQ section. I opened it up along with Mupen64, and to my horror, none of it worked. The - and + sure enough did change the percentage at the bottom, but it didn't get any slower. Nothing worked. It does have savestates, and they work fine, though nothing else does. It doesn't even show the number of frames. So, I'm wondering, is it Mupen's fault, or is it the ROM from DGEmu's fault? And lastly, should I just stick to 16 star speedruns on my N64?

Hi Quate.
You said you went to the place to download Mupen64, but AFAIK, the only version that has received rerecording capabilities, and the one that this site uses, is 0.5.0 (I may be mistaken however).
I'd suggest trying to download a new copy from here:
http://www.bluetoaster.net/emu/all.html#n64
and get back to us after you've tried that. My guess would be that you downloaded a non-rerecording copy (it happens a lot, no worries). Let us know if downloading a new copy helps or not.
Sorry for double post, but now it isn't working again. Now it wants me to configure the Graphics Plugin. When I get to settings, everything is blanked out. It gave me this message before, but somehow I bypassed it. Can someone help please?

Open Mupen, Options>Settings
You will see an area to select different plugins for different components (video, sound, input). If you're playing Mario 64, a lot of different plugins will work (it tends to be a benchmark game). Try Jabo's Direct 1.6 for a good start, you'll have to experiment with different games to find ones that fit for each game though.
If you're talking about how to set up the configuration to match whatever monitor setup you have or graphics card, or something, I'm not the one to ask. But if you can figure it out yourself, there's a "config" option under the dropdown menu that you can play around with. Hope this helps.
Well, the thing is, there isn't anything in the list. I can't even click the dropdown menu! I don't see how I bypassed it the first time...
EDIT: Wait, I think I know. The rom rezipped itself.

Hmm... did you manage to delete some of the folders that Mupen needs to function? Specifically the "plugin" folder?
If the plugin folder is empty for some reason, you can try googling N64 emulator plugins, or just reinstall mupen. If that doesn't work, I have no idea what you could have done O_o
Nope, I just closed it. That can't possibly be it. Hmm... I'll look for the plugins folder.
EDIT: Yep, every file (as far as I know) is there. I even see Jabo... I don't know what's wrong. I'll take a screenshot.

Mupen isn't seeing the plugin folder (hence, there are no plugins available). Did you move the plugin folder from it's default position? Or did you move Mupen from it's default folder? Disrupting either of those items positions would goof up the path the program uses.
If not, I dunno. Just trash it all, reinstall, and don't move anything around after it's all done.

your mupen has no plugins in its plugins folder. whoops! copy the plugins from the old mupen you downloaded to the new one. then when that 2nd prompt thing comes up pick some plugins.
If you have more than one option for any of the plugins, heres a brief list of them: http://www.bluetoaster.net/tasvideos/plugins.html
Work your way down the list. if #1 on a list doesn't work or you don't have it, try #2 etc.

Actually, all my plugins are there. I just separated the path between mupen and them. I know how to fix it, I think...
EDIT: Aha! Got it! Thanks everyone!
