A gentle nudge to bring this thread back from page two. Are things progressing at all since April?

I made some good progress on SM-Redesign recently and will release a new WIP in the next month or two, as said before already. Though I can't tell at which point I'm at exactly, since it should be a secret until the new WIP is out, for a bigger surprise.

Apologies, I've lost interest in following the Super Metroid proper thread since Saturn started doing his thing and everyone jumped him. Not exactly fun wading through the bullshit to find the gold. Thank you though.

OK guys, after a more than a year long break, I'm back with a new WIP! Be prepared to see new and never before seen sequence breaks, crazy boss strategies, and a totally new route most people wouldn't expect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrf-l53GF3k Enjoy!

Good job on the Torizo fight. Just as beautiful as I had expected.

What the hell, how much damage does ridley take from a charged wavebeam shot... Seems pretty ridiculous. Excellent WIP, not knowing the route before watching really increases the entertainment value. Will we be allowed the smv later?

It's not a charged wave beam shot, it's a pseudo-screw attack, his weak spot. :) Listen to the sound!

The GT fight brought a teardrop in my eye. This was the best WIP so far, the way you got out from disarming Guardian 3 was awesome. Please don't make us wait another year, my hunger for this run is huge. Awesome job.

Incredible WIP really, watched it 3 times already. There are two things that crossed my mind though: The e-tank after Ridley, why didn't just morph into the tunnel with some speed? Morph ball bomb jumping is used pretty frequently, is there any reason/restriction that doesn't allow you to use the spring ball extension on all of them?

It just doesn't work. Neither does in vanilla SM. I think Springball has a flag type variable that sets to 1 if you've used it, and only resets back to 0 if you make a contact with the ground.

It's a combination of both, the Pseudo Screw Attack and shots. And yes, the former is Ridleys weakpoint and the major key for the quick kill.

Sometime later, eventually.

You don't have enough room to get blue suit there. Redesign doesn't allow such a short charge like the original.

It's only possible if you have ground contact before the bomb blows you up. There is no way you can do it in midair.

I for one am blown away with how much faster you were able to do this than I could ever dream of! I am looking forward to the next WIP soon. A note on the side, I am pretty concerned that skipping those 20 missile packs will result in shortages for purple doors down the road but I guess we won't really know for sure until later. I'll try and see how many more packs we can acquire along our route.

Have you got an estimate on how soon you'll be finished, Saturn? Everyone's reactions have me interested, but I'd rather wait and watch a finished run than watch a WIP and get irritated that you're not done yet.

Drew: I tested ahead for Brinstar, and there shouldn't be any problems despite at least 3 purple doors there. At which location do you think would it get close with the Missiles I have? I would gladly take a further look on it as well. Solon: This is hard to estimate, but I hope to get it done next year. However if you are really interested in the run, I wouldn't suggest to wait until then. The WIPs are there for a reason after all. :-)

The other reason I was holding off on watching them was that I didn't want item locations spoiled for me, because I haven't really played Redesign yet. Having decided it doesn't really matter, I watched your WIPs, and my mind is blown. Can't wait for the finished run. Few questions in the meantime. 1. Is that seriously it for Ridley? Or is that a decoy? 2. Are you supposed to fight him first, or are you really screwing with the boss order?

1. It is the real thing, Satun only abuses his for this hack exclusive weakness against pseudo screw attacks (charging your beam and then making a spinjump against an enemy). 2. Ridley is supposed to be the last big boss before tourian (a.i Saturn sequence breaks in to LN, which is meant to be entered much later).

Got bored the other day so I decided to try the first few rooms of this game. I used a WIP Taco created long ago as guidance, and managed to find small frame-improvements here and there. Started to get fun in Brinstar and further, so I decided that this will be the project I'll work on after me and Taco are done with our runs. Anyways, I'm done with the first large outdoor room after Torizo, so I decided to run it by here for funsies. Insert clichéd get-smv-here phrase I'd like to add that the level of optimization is low, except the bombjump in the 2nd to last room of this WIP (and the Kago, first visit). Most of the tricks/improvements I found would probably have been implemented by Saturn if he had done the run more recently. Since Saturn's smv stops at the walljump boots, I can only say that I am about 135 frames ahead there. The rest will be up to Saturn to announce. Another thing: About me spinning/despinning like crazy in the beginning. Let's say it maybe looks entertaining. The real reason is that I thought that that trick caused Samus to be pushed down without losing any horizontal momentum. Turns out I am stupid and completely wrong, so I stopped doing that.

I must have missed that, but luckily Taco sent it to me already. Turns out I'm 288 frames ahead.

Looks great, Kriole. It's especially shocking to see that the midair bomb jump after Torizo was almost 1,5 seconds improvable, due to much better positioning of the bombs and the new unmorph trick I started to use later at the HJ-Boots as well. I only expected it to be a second at first... And the main reason for most other tiny improvements here and there, is because I simply didn't bother to optimize them to the best of my ability, since my main goal at that time was once again to just progress in the run as fast as possible (couldn't wait until testing the new conditions with Speed Booster for the first time). This of course changed from Norfair on though, where it started to get more and more interesting to TAS. Anyway, good luck on further progress.

Compared it to some of my old stuff I made for this game. Taking a damage boost from the first Rio in Brinstar saves at least 20 frames compared to your/Saturn's method, so it might be worth looking into if you can skip a boost or grab a big energy ball beforehand. Kago manipulation was damn great.

Just curious how either of the TAS's are holding up. I'm sad there hasn't been much progress I was hoping it would have been done by now.

For me it was just a project I would pick up after I'm done with the powerranger runs. And I'm gonna redo most of it, got this idea which might improve the bombjump by even more.
