Hello TASVideos, I had already asked this question to everyone else but I need some help in recording FFVI videos and other videos like on YouTube. I know I heard from other users that there are better sites that I can put my videos in but I need to know of codec or something that will allow to compress my videos to meet YouTube's standards. There use to be a time where that wasn't really necessary abd I don't want to have to hack into the site to put my videos in but I kind of want to put my videos in YouTube but it always ends up too big for the site to upload. I am not new to this stuff but I wouldn't exactly be called an expert at it so I need some help in recording some RPG type videos from SNES otherwise I may have to go to other sites or play the GBA version of the game.

YouTube limit is 10 minutes and 1GB. If you mean that the movie you are trying to upload is too long, split it using VirtualDub. (See http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/MakingAVI.html) If you mean that the movie you are trying to upload is too large in memory (but is 10 minutes or less), don't use the "uncompressed" option. In other words, use any codec.

What exactly does mencoder do? How does work with emulators and how can better compress my videos for YouTube?

MEncoder takes some .avi produced by anything (for example, the emulator) and encodes it to produce a smaller size. It's hard to explain every option or what exactly to do. If you want just to put a 10 min. file onto YouTube, you don't need MEncoder.

I finally posted up a playthorugh of the FFVI game but I don't if I am doing it right or anything. My videos still turnout too big for YouTube and also I kind of took my video apart to fit within ten minutes but it is not working for me. I just couldn't fit the first video of me going from Narshe to Mt.Koltz like I wanted to and I think I am doing something wrong because my videos do not have the high quality they should have. Do have any advice for me on that topic? My video could have been better in a lot of ways, I don't know too much about Virtualdub to make an effective compression of my videos and I don't feel like cutting anything out. How do you remedy this?

Use an encoder like x264 or mencoder to better encode information within YouTube's 300kbps limit (which is a serious hamper on video quality IMO). Oh yeah, by "limit" I mean "If your video has a higher bitrate than that then YouTube will automatically downgrade it to 300kbps, though it may also give an option to view in high quality."
