I think the description for the "Sega Genesis Games" forum should be changed from the current "Sega Genesis / Sega Megadrive games" to mention also the Sega CD and the 32X, as there are at least two games (Sonic CD and Knuckles' Chaotix) for those two systems. This is a very minor suggestion but I think it would incourage discussion about games for those two systems, even if it's implicit that that one is the relevant forum as they are add-ons for the Genesis. Just throwing in my two cents, what do you think?

Is it really necessary to repeat the word "Sega" in the description?

Not really, in my opinion. Yet, even on wikipedia, the Game Boy is simply referenced as "Game Boy", and the Game Gear is referenced as "Sega Game Gear", apparently there is this implicit bias with Sega Consoles. Right, and another suggestion is to include the Game Gear into the Master System forum description, since Dega emulates both of them, and I know as a fact that someone is working on a Sonic Triple Trouble TAS.

That's what we're doing right now, but I agree, it's repetitive. So how about "Sega Megadrive / Genesis / CD / 32x"? Or swap the Megadrive and Genesis; this version orders them by release date but more people are familiar with the Genesis.

Given that the Megadrive and the Genesis are basically the one and same thing (with the only difference being, AFAIK, PAL vs. NTSC) is it really necessary to specify both? Also, given that the Sega CD and Sega 32X were not independent consoles but add-ons for the Sega Megadrive (you needed a Megadrive if you wanted to use the CD or the 32X), is it necessary to specify them separately, as if they were their own independent consoles? Another option would be: Sega 4th generation consoles. (Although that might not be nearly as clear as "Sega Genesis" or "Sega Megadrive". And besides, we are really talking about *one* console here, as I just wrote above...)

"4th generation" is definitely not an option, for an obvious reason. "Sega Megadrive / Genesis / CD / 32x" is somewhat long, but it's the only viable option I see.

Ameri-centralism in action. I agree with MD/Gen/32x/CD. By the way, it's also Sega CD/Mega CD for the last one, but I doubt that one is different enough for people not to work it out for themselves.

And what about adding "Game Gear" to the Master System forum?

Roughly 98% of game gear games are direct ports of SMS games, and there has yet to be a submission of a game gear exclusive. I don't see any problem with changing the listing once there is such a publication, though.

Maybe he means more people on the Internet... It's slightly more correct. Ever so slightly.

Google "Sega Genesis" registers 3,940,000 hits Google "Sega Megadrive" registers 1,300,000 hits. That was the best way I could think of :)

:D Granted, I didn't take into account other languages, but English isn't only spoken in the US, after all. And it happens to be the only language I know... so yeah. Damn my american internets.

We should be more proactive than that. The forum should mention the Game Gear so people will be inspired to run Game Gear games in the first place!

For my part, I apologize for getting the Master System and Megadrive confused.

And this is why I'm glad the industry has gotten a wee bit better about changing titles between regions. Also, how about 'Sega Genesis/Megadrive & derivatives' or somesuch?

You could argue that 32X straddles two generations, I suppose.

You could also argue that people who don't live and breath video games wouldn't have any idea what "4th generation" means. Until I became involved with this site, I would have picked the Genesis as a 3rd generation console (I only really knew about the Atari 2600 and NES before that point). I also didn't know that the Genesis was also known as the Megadrive. "4th generation" uses no descriptive terms to help describe what is included in the subforum, and conveys very little helpful information (other than it is one more than 3rd generation).

Basically, this. Unless you're really well-versed in the history of videogame consoles, you'll have to look up what the 4th generation is (the fact that it encompasses both the Genesis and the 32x makes it even more counterintuitive). Hell, I've been using emulators for almost a decade, and I can't be bothered checking the generations. Short version: if you want to replace a clear text with something that isn't immediately clear, you might as well not replace it.

Earlier I was toying around with the idea of facetiously posting, "Can't do that because it would start arguments." I had no idea that would actually happen. :(
