Another thing to fix: the profile pages still displays:
Average submission receives votes as follows:
Yes	No	Meh	# voters
42.9%	57.1%	0.0%	7.0
Gone.

As I have stated before: if we can extrapolate that 5 is not held as an average value for both Entertainment and Optimization, the ratings system is inherently flawed and should be abandoned.
Right now the lowest rating on the workbench is 6.5 :D I thought there'd be more variation, but obviously we've had some unusually high quality submissions lately... Can the average of ratings for all current submissions be listed? For example, right now it's 8.1 by my calculations. Or maybe I'm reading too much into this.

I wouldn't say that the rating system itself if flawed. If anything is flawed, it's the perception people have about the meaning of "average quality". And by this I don't mean it's *wrong*. What I mean is that it's *biased* (and I'm not using that word in the negative sense, but in the completely neutral sense). I think people probably tend to think about "average" (ie. rating 5) to be on the weaker side of the scale, rather than exactly in the middle, even if they aren't consciously aware of that. What I think is happening is that people are probably taking 7.5 as the true "average" rather than 5. In other words, from the "good" movies, about half are over 7.5 and the other half under 7.5. Ratings under 5 are reserved in their minds for the really bad ones. Again, I'm not saying this in a negative way, just stating what I think is happening. Adding the decimal to the ratings could perhaps be a good idea to widen that 5-10 scale.

Yes, I pretty much agree, but I thought it wouldn't be so high -- 8.1 is quite a bit more than 7.5 really -- again not that that's bad but notable. I'll repeat that perhaps the current average could be displayed for reference.

The scale should not be considered to be linear.

I don't know if anything can be done to fix this, but at my resolution the 'No opinion' radio button wraps around... IMAGE Perhaps, if possible, you could force the text to wrap around with the radio button? In any case, this isn't a complaint, just information on possible issues.

That probably just requires a <nobr> html command, as <nobr>(label)(option button)</nobr> All the label-option couples should be wrapped into nobr blocks, imo.

Why not just label the option as "Apathetic" or, to make the text shorter (so the wrap doesn't happen again), "Apathy"? On second thought, this may cause confusion with the non-native english speakers, since Apathy doesn't exactly mean No Opinion... looking it up in a dictionary would probably just confuse people ^_^;

Maybe we should get a poll for this as well... or is there another good way to settle this?

Decimal fraction rating added... (Javascript only). I apologize for the fact that it doesn't exactly follow the same style as the rest of the forums. (Also, it doesn't support dragging the cursor; I couldn't get it working on Firefox in my short available time. If someone wants to take a stab at it, go ahead.) Also, IE7 seems to be flabbergasted with the code as usual, so it doesn't work on IE -- but it still allows inputting a fractional vote value though.

So it will not be added to published movies until later?

Yes, not now but later.

Is the 100-value vote really necessary with *submissions*? I understand why they are desirable with published movies, but do submission really need that degree of accuracy? After all, we had a 3-value vote system for years and it worked acceptably well. An increase in accuracy of almost two orders of magnitude feels a bit like overkill. I'm not saying it should be reverted to the 10-value scale, I'm just wondering.

Well ratings on submissions are transferred to the published videos (from what I understand) so it would just be unnecessarily complicated to have different rating scales on the published movies and the submissions.

Wow! That was unexpected... very nice!

It is important that it's consistent. People want their submission ratings to be transferred directly after publication, without having to go vote again.

In that sense maybe it makes sense. OTOH I still think it's a bit of an overkill if we look it exclusively as a submission voting system... :) (Edit: The repetition of the word "sense" above was completely unintentional and not intended as any kind of pun... :P )

Heh, dragging works fine in Chrome, so I suppose Safari users are getting the best out of this new scale thingy (Chrome uses a variation of Webkit, Safari's rendering engine, for those who don't know). Unless it has something to do with Chrome's new V8 Javascript engine...

Two notes.
  1. I use firefox 1.0.7 and I can drag the cursor just fine
  2. I just managed to enter a 7.51/10, which means that the resolution is in 1/1000ths, not in 1/100ths as it has been said

wow, the changes and polls you can miss! I like this change. I mean, the votes are not always accurate. The judges can judge through watching the video more than the votes can judge the judges. anyway... we'll see how thism turns out.

I think that the word "none" might not be the best possible one in the voting widget. Just think about it: Entertainment? None. Technical quality? None. It sounds the same as giving it a 0, when in fact it should mean "I have no opinion".

N/A or (again) "no opinion" would be better.
