This is my 2nd version of "New Ghostbusters II" speedrun.
It's about 12 seconds better than the previous one.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUx 2.0.2
  • Aims for fastest time

Comments

I managed to defeat two ghosts at the 2nd screen of this game, so this is a reference point.
It also brought many of following scenes to a different placement of enemies.
Often they were using alternative trajectories.
Some of scenes became easier, but others became much harder .
The scenes may seem the same as they were in my first run, but they are not.
Howewer, I gained more time in comparison with frames I've lost.

Stage by stage comments

Round 1

  • Improved fight at the 2nd screen : +30 frames
  • Better strategy for screens 3,6,8 : +38 frames
  • Different ghosts location at screen 7 : +13 frames
  • In conjunction with better accuracy I gained 137 frames.

Round 2

There were a lot of ghosts moving by alternate directions.
  • Improved screens 6,9,12 by 57 frames

Round 3

What should I say? I hate this round.
Most of it's screens are looking completely different every time (this is actually my 4th run), it's really annoying.
There were disappearing ghosts located at the most inaccessible places.
I don't know if that was some kind of luck manipulation but I was forced to re-run a couple of screens over 100 times just to get more favourable conditions farther.
I had to lose some frames here, but overall progress is still positive (110 frames)

Round 4

Big improvement was made mainly due to better strategy at screens 4,6,8 and 10 in spite of the fact that there were some awkward situations.
  • Gained 350 frames.

Round 5

Improved by 32 frames.
Some of the screens there were making me think, that I can't get through without losing time.
But in fact it made me try harder.

Round 6

Just cut unnecessary frames from the end of the movie.

Other comments

So, this video is 686 frames faster (excluding round 6).

mmbossman: A decent movie to add to the collection. Accepting.
ShinyDoofy: Processing...

I wonder if this video is not good or bad enough for a single comment or something. 0 replies (+0 votes) in a week is too sad.

Don't worry. I'm interested in watching it.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

This is Why! Most people who planned to watch have watched the first. Those that hadn't may be waiting to see if you put out another one. Bad news, using the WorkBench as a WIP.
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.

What DK said. I saw the first one, and thought it was probably a good game for two players. It's impressive to see that the second player was AI controlled, but probably moreso to people who've played the game. Not a great TAS, in itself. I sat through the longer version easily enough, but I don't think I'll be compelled to watch it again. Not sure how to quantify that. 6.5 & 7.5 -ish.

Thankfully I didn't watch the old ones. This game is not bad. EDIT: Oh one question: why not use the (J) rom? EDIT 2: 7.0/Abstained.

I did not want to re-run this game, so I thought the previous version was not a WIP. klmz wrote:

I've just tried it and I must say: "Wow! It is more challenging than I expected". There are two problems : 1. The (J)-version surely is twice harder for TASing. 2. I suppose it will be longer to watch. (and it's looking glitchy with my emulator)

Hm, in the sewer rooms it looks like you're walking next to a stream that flows in the direction you're walking in a few times, was that on purpose?

Sorry, I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly, therefore I'll try to explain process of walking in these rooms. If you're walking in a stream that flows in opposite direction, it slows you down, but if you follow it's direction it does nothing. There is also one useful thing: if you catch a ghost and keep on holding it, you can move faster, but only in oppositely directed stream and only if you turned your back upon it. Otherwise it slows you down as well.

Interesting movie, although the gameplay entertainment dropped off after about 25k frames since it was pretty repetitious. However, it's relatively short, and kept my most of my attention throughout the run. Rated 4.9/6.2
