Why I was thinking about other people's mice, I don't know. But, just for shits and giggles, what kind of mouse do you use? Is it a standard double clicker, or a fancy pants $100 one? Here is mine: http://www.winboard.org/forum/attachments/erfahrungsberichte-hardware/21583d1192822298-logitech-mx-518-mx518.jpg Bought it for WoW, before I found out my laptop will not play the game well... at all. (It doesn't meet the RAM minimal requirements.

I use a good old-fashioned touch pad on my laptop. I'm too lazy and/or busy to replace my old broken wireless mouse.

Actually, that brings up another issue, theenglishman, do you all prefer wired or wireless mice? I much prefer wired, because there is nothing I hate more than a mouse dying on me while I am in the middle of something.

Cheapest wired optical mouse. I've been getting this bug A LOT on mouses recently: when I click, it fires multiple clicks, and this is SO annoying! I hit the mouse against the table really hard and it stops for a while and then it starts doing that again. And this has been happening for a lot of mouses on several different computers.

I require 5 Mouse buttons minimum, a scroll wheel and robust optics (for use on lots of non-desk-surfaces). I see no reason for wireless, my mouse is next to the computer/laptop at all times. I also require a mouse that fits my hand and that allows me to use all 5 buttons without much effort. Unfortunately, the only mouse on this planet fitting my needs is the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. I'd love to buy something non-microsoft, but logitech just won't work. And the 4.0 edition of that mouse is totally crap. So, yeah, two of those for desktop and notebook. I used a trackball on my notebook for a long time, microsoft trackball explorer. Used it to work, to play quake, everything. Then microsoft decided that the only usable trackball wasn't worth producing any more (ebay prices shot up to twice the market price after that), and again, the logitech trackballs just won't fit my hand. :(

This one: http://www.3t.hu/images/Logitech%20MX518.gif It's ugly, but it works very well. I should not that I'm not really a gamer anymore, though I never used anything too special when I was. I imagine that if I were to start seriously playing games now, I'd at least want a clicky keyboard and a bit larger mouse.

Happens to me a lot, too. Very, very annoying. On topic: I prefer wireless mice, and I currently have a Rocketfish wireless mouse. I'm too lazy to look for a picture.

The last generation! Bought in 2008 with a new Acer Computer. That means: A fantastic ball mouse with two buttons, the scroll wheel and the PS/2 connector... 2008?

I use the Logitech "marble mouse" (really a trackball) at work, and a generic optical mouse at hope, both wired. The trackball's actually very nice for work; my only concern with taking it home is that I don't know how well it'll work for the 3D modeling I do as a hobby. But it has four buttons, one of which defaults to acting as a scroll toggle (i.e. as long as that button is held, the trackball scrolls the current window instead of moving the mouse). I woke up from a nap yesterday to find my hand shaped as if it were clutching my trackball, and I swear I could feel the thing, too. Not certain what to think about that...

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6766269/Trail/searchtext%3EMOUSE.htm on my laptop(it is wired btw, just it's randomly not in the picture) my desk has a massive line in the varnish where I use my mouse, so I have an awesome mousepad.

I have a wired ms mouse AND a wireless logitech mouse ... the latter I use as a remote control since I use the computer as my "tv" for watching dvds etc... no cable tv since I'm not terribly fond of paying to be told what to think; I get that for free thank you very much! I've remapped the auxiliary buttons to work as play/pause, volume, window maximizing and closing. Batteries last forever and I have a backup pair recharging at all times. The wired one I keep so I don't have to lug the remote back and forth, plus I prefer the forward/back keys to remain for normal computer use.

I've got a stock eMachines wired ball mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel. Sucker is at least 5 years old. I once saw a *really* old mouse that came before even the ball. Instead it had two top-like wheels, one for X, the other for Y. I kinda want one. Edit: And my keyboard is some generic Logitech. It serves its purpose well, but what frustrates me is that the F-keys default to other functions like e-mail and media control every time I turn my PC on; in order to use them as, you know, the F-keys that everyone is familiar with I have to press an F-lock button. What a stupid stupid stupid design decision that was. Edit 2: What I think would be pretty spiffy to have is one of those silicone rubber keyboards, especially the kind that lights up. I have to wonder about how they feel when typing, but nevertheless they strike the "That's awesome!" chord within me. I had to laugh, though, when the box for one of these proclaim, "Indestructible!" My first thought to that was, "Yeah, let's see if a ferret agrees with that." Those little suckers absolutely love chewing on soft rubber.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

One of my classmates at college had an ancient optical mouse. It only worked on a special mousepad that had a grid etched into the surface.

MS Intellimouse Explorer on desktop, HP wireless laser on laptop. I despise the trend with mice today of making wheels click to the sides. It makes it practically impossible to press the button straight down without hitting it to either side.

I actually really like this feature... I have not had your problem with the ones I've had. One this that is cool in theory but doesn't work well for me are the mac mouses with essentially a tiny trackball in lieu of a scroll wheel. I can never get them to roll right though.

They actually work quite well... for about two weeks. I love the idea, but the implementation and engineering needs some work, because the 'roll down' action consistently gets goofed up. As for me, I use the mac mouse that came with my iMac, and a Logitech (I think) wireless mouse for my laptop. Someone posted about not liking wireless mice because of the possibility of having the battery die at an inopportune time, but I can only disagree. A single AA battery lasted me over 8 months of casual use (read: 4 or 5 hours/day, 4 or 5 days/week). I put in a lithium battery over a year ago, and it hasn't shown any signs of slowing down yet.

I go back-and-forth: a USB notebook optical mouse and the touchpad on my notebook.

Technically, I do not currently use a mouse. My laptop has a touchpad, and I make do with that. I had a wireless mouse for the lappy, but if I ever used it in wireless mode, it would randomly interpret interference as mouse clicks and mouse wheel spins, so it was tossed. My desktop uses an older Logitech dual-optical mouse. The model no longer exists, but the optical sensors are laid out in a | / sort of configuration. It's rather spiffy, even if it doesn't really do anything for accuracy.

Cheapest usb optical wired mouse. Someday I'll try a laser one, I guess

I myself use, depending on my mood, a G5, or a MX600. I dont actually have a desk, so I'm saddened that my old mouse actually passed on (it used that cheap-to-make-and-impossible-to-fix-yourself kind of wiring), given it worked *perfectly* on the various bed related surfaces I use my mice on. Extending the topic to keyboards as well, I mostly use a G15 that has usb wireless dongle for my MX3200 (and my MX600), which I don't use all that often. I suppose I should otherwise it'll get ruined from lack of use.

Well, instead of making a new topic and then merging the two, why not just be proactive and change the topic's... topic? What kidn of keyboard do you use? Some have already posted, but I will add mine. Mine is one of those new Apple keyboards, and, quite frankly, it is sexy :3 Two usbs on the side of it, and a nifty looking silver with white keys, and I am a happy camper. Wired, of course. I would LOVE to invest in some of those keyboards that have LEDs under they keys, to illuminate red letters on black keys (talk about arousing); anyone know where I could find such a beautiful thing for cheap?

Ah keyboard doesn't matter for me. I use anything. Once it was an emergency and I soldered a PS/2 cable to an fossilized AT keyboard, probably used by neandertals. I couldn't tell the diference...
