Nice. This is going to be a good run.

Nice run so far! This is definitely going to be "speedy", at least until you reach EVE. I'm impressed by how little you need to reset the random-generator with the pause menu. You must be really looking ahead. I also like the variety with which you mess around with the cursor in-battle. I had the Earthbound Zero ROM, and needed to download the EarthBound (prototype) ROM to view the movie. Is there a reason you chose one over the other?

I used the original prototype instead of the Demiforce hack because this site has rules against hacked ROMs. I'm not sure if using the Demiforce hack would have been a problem in this case, but I didn't see any reason to risk it. I still have one more battle before I get EVE, and I also have to make a decision about the LifeUpCreams. Namely, should I get them from the presents in Sweet Little's Factory and Rosemary Manor, or get them from the doctor near Mt. Itoi? 2 LifeUpCreams from presents: 16 extra steps, 0 extra door transitions, 2 check commands, and a total of 12 lines of text which scroll a total of 4 times. 2 LifeUpCreams from doctor: 18 extra steps, 2 extra door transitions, 3 talk commands, and a total of 15 lines of text which scroll a total of 1 time. If I get the LifeUpCreams from presents, they'll take up room in my inventory, which will force me to move things around. I'm fairly sure that I can get away with only moving/dropping two items if I get the LifeUpCreams from presents, and I will need to move/drop one item even if I get LifeUpCreams from the doctor. From this, it looks like the presents may be slightly faster, but it's hard to be sure. I'll give it some thought.

It has been a while since I visited the forum, and I'm wondering if there has been any additional progress made on this run as of yet. :3

I got another melody. Absolutely nothing exciting happens during this part. All I do is run around, avoid random encounters, and talk to a couple people.

This looks pretty awesome man. I can't wait to see this run either. Was such a long game because some of the clues were really hard to get!

EVE. Just more running around again, plus one battle. I redid the beginning of Rosemary Manor to give Lloyd the bottle rocket, since it would have taken 400 frames to manipulate a 16-damage SMAAAASH against the stray dog. All that's left now is 14 battles, plus a bit more running around.

This is all very excellent. Hopefully I've caught you before you do too much more: you missed a tiny shortcut in the second-last section of the Mt. Ioti caves. Rather than try and describe it in my wordy fashion, I'll just point you here (look at the last screenshot). EDIT: I can't think of anything else that wouldn't be 100% obvious to you. I guess you're planning to fight a Star Miner, R7308xx, and 39 Last Starmen (within 12 fights) with EVE? Have fun manipulating them to all hit Ninten with PK Beam gamma AND getting maximum strength bonuses from level-ups. And good job on remembering to detour to use Telepathy on the Magicant castle guards while going through with Ninten the first time -- I completely forgot about the PP-requirement there (combined with the PP-loss from death-warping back to Magicant). Although, it wouldn't have cost very much at all to just restore Ninten's PP where you revive Lloyd (but it would still be slightly slower). I also appreciate how you do a few zig-zags while running around (when it doesn't cost time, obviously). Just to spice things up a bit without making the viewer queasy. I know if I were doing this, I would have been tempted to make the party wobble back and forth in time to the music, but that doesn't work when the screen is always centred firmly on the lead party member.

Uh, can I please have an IPS patch for the japanese ROM with the ROM you are using because uh, I can't seem to get the right ROM. Unless using FCEUx is the problem.

I'm using FCE Ultra 0.98.15. You don't use the Japanese ROM with a patch -- you need the ROM of the actual translated (but unreleased) NES game. There should not be a "Zero" on the title screen. The name of my ROM file is "Earthbound_(U)_(Prototype).nes"

Yeah, I found it appear on google quiet a bit, I just asked for an IPS because all the sites I can download from just won't let me, it keeps asking me to be logged in >.>' Edit: Nevermind, I FINALLY found the correct freaking ROM download, checksum and all. Edit: Watched it all the way to the end and offically, bread crumbs apperantly have the limitless power to teleport you, however marathon running seems to work just as well too... and I love how you could marathon away from any random encounters :P

I actually redid from the end of the Starman Junior battle to the end of Sweet Little's factory earlier because I hadn't looked at my route the first time. Compared to that, redoing part of Mt. Itoi won't be much trouble at all.

That is correct. I will probably allow 2-round battles, both for my sanity and because the luck manipulation may cost more time than the second round would. Maximum strength bonuses will be easy, since I can manipulate that simply by waiting at the "level up" text.

You can't get Ninten's PP restored there, as far as I know. In order to restore PP, I would have to go to another building and scroll through some long text (or just get a PSI Stone from a LastStarman).

Can we get an official word on whether this would be an acceptable game to TAS since it was a beta? It's not like it was a rom hack and we have rom hack runs on the site. I"d really love to see this one and mother 3 completed so we can have a trilogy of runs on the site :). A Japanese run just wouldn't be as entertaining. Just don't wanna see someone go through the trouble only to have the submission denied because it's not a officially released game.

That is the name of my Rom as well. I should think that since it was a Prototype for a game that never got released in the US, a run with this rom should be acceptable. They obviously were planning on it, but scrapped it after completion for some reason.

Since pirohiko just submitted a glitched run of the Japanese version, I decided to stop being lazy and make some progress on this run. I still have more random encounters to do, but I'll post what I have for now. Level 3 to 16 in under 4 minutes.

The remaining LastStarman battles didn't go quite as smoothly. I hope to get the R7038XX fight done in 2 turns, but that's unlikely. Insert witty comment here. (Note: I only get QuickUp because the RNG was uncooperative.)

Take a melody, simple as can be... I plan to do some hex editing before I submit this.

This guy wants to dump a different Prototype: http://www.blisteredthumbs.net/2011/07/16-bit-gems-earthbound-nes-prototype/ Sounds interesting and might be slightly different than the rom we have. Maybe somebody here can help him?

Just an FYI: he first posted that video on YouTube on March 7, 2010. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOqnD5WyQ5c That doesn't mean it has been dumped yet, of course. I haven't heard anything about whether or not he had it dumped (and there is no comment from him on YouTube about it).

God damn reviewers reposting their videos on blistered thumbs and not even making a little note. Seems like he already dumped it and will make some kind of video about it at some point:
Actually (and I thank you all for the recommendations), I originally made this video a year or so ago, and I had a very helpful viewer lend me his NES with the CopyNES board on it. I wound up dumping the ROM and the results were somewhat interesting… I think I owe it to everyone who’s been so helpful to do a follow-up video to this one.
