While not practical for speed running, it is now known that you can beat the game without ever getting the dark suit (but you need a lot of energy tanks). Someone has found a way into the room with the Seeker Missiles before getting the Boost Ball, but unfortunately no one has found a consistent way to move spinners without boosting like there was in MP1. I also understand someone got to the boss guarding Power Bombs without the Spider Ball, but could not damage it without being able to use the magnetic rails, so that's likely a dead end. Also, not a sequence break, but it's possible to get the Jump Guardian 1 shot away from death before it attacks. It exists as an invisible object in the room you fight it, but does not appear or move from its starting position until you move into the light haven in the middle of the room. Through a bit of creative bomb jumping, it's possible to get to a light haven on a ledge and shoot it from afar until it has almost no life left. I'm not too worried about this game being unbreakable. The game has only been out a matter of weeks now, and already one key item has been cut out. Also, I understand the next thing on the list is trying to get around getting Gravity Boost, which would eliminate fighting at least one boss, possibly two if it also means cutting out Grapple. Those are all I can remember about current state of sequence breaking in MP2. Not shabby for what, 13 days of release? Nevermind the Secret World hunting, though over 90% of all of them were found by using Screw Attack to fit into small spaces and then unmorph. Rather a shame that Retro didn't bother to think that making the SA both take up less space than standing Samus AND have her end in unmorphed state might cause those kinds of problems. Plus an enemy can occasionally throw Samus through walls if positioned right, putting her outside the map, inside Denzium walls, etc. I wouldn't care so much, but they worked on MP2 for a couple of years, recycled several monsters, but couldn't be bothered to do more than a token effort to stop people from getting items early. Even when trying to make item collection work like Fusion (only through boss fights or secured rooms) they couldn't do it right. =/

Cool! The stuff they are posting looks promising.

blip: Well, yes and no. I am quite glad that it isn't unbreakable, however as a programmer, I don't like seeing ugly mistakes like the Screw Attack glitch. Excessively random or unorthodox things I can forgive (ie. I can't blame Nintendo or various 3rd parties for not thinking people would break open controllers to hit left+right at the same time on the NES). However, the apparent lack of foresight on the part of Retro annoys me. Makes me want to record the SW videos to a VHS tape, then drive down there and beat them over the head with it. But I do look forward to seeing speedruns on MP2, I've enjoyed the dozen or so I've watched of MP1, no matter how many times I've seen the same rooms. Also, since I haven't said it, thanks for your efforts in fixing up emulators to support re-recording and whatnot. It's just too bad I can't think of a game where I have intimate knowledge of the engine so that I could do a respectable run.

I got this game today, the post (mail for the americans) messed up! So far, I've found it pretty easy, although i've only just got past the dark alpha stinger (is that what it is?). I've been scanning everything so far. I doubt i'll be able to, but maybe i'll try a speed run sometime once i've been through the game a couple of times. I've noticed that i've been horribly cautious the first time going through a room, but other times i've just ran straight through. Maybe it's because I've heard this game is a lot more difficult than MP1.

Radix said a 100% completion and low % completion on hard are being worked on as we speak. I think "kip" is one of the guys working on this (he has a ton of the original MP records).

yeah, I've been reading that too. Kip and Radix and the gang have a forum of their own just about Metroid games. http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/index.php is their forum with what they're working on. I know this isn't the place for Prime runs, as we're mainly an emulation speed run forum so check out that one for tips and tricks in the Metroid Series.

hmmm For me the Boost Guardian was pretty simple. Nothing much to say about him, but now I was fortunate and destroyed Chykka Chakka or whatever the hell his/her/it name is :) and man this game kicks ass big time so far! I received Dark Visior, soooo beautiful thing :)

Got the Powerbomb (by the way, the Powerbomb Guardian was so silly and easy, at least for me) and heading for Screwattack :)

I need one more sky temple key. I can't play it right now, I'm right smack dab in the middle of finals. Hell, I hardly have time to check my forums! You're going to beat it faster than me, I'll bet. You have to be a better player than I am anyways, it took me >20 tries to beat boost guardian. After that I stopped keeping track of how many times I've died. Let me know how the ending is. :D

Dark world sanctuary temple. You'll get the Annihilator Beam right before you do the energy transfer. Quadraxies isn't that hard. I only died like 6 times. After that head to the light world. Drop off the energy at the temple. Then you're going to go to the overworld temple. Talk to Ol' Whatshisname and he'll give you the light suit. Then its time to start collecting Sky Temple Keys. Don't want to spoil you too much. Let me know if you need help. You'll be past me in no time! Godspeed my friend!

For those of you keeping score, many items have been got out of sequence. Seeker Missiles and the Grapple Beam can be gotten much later than normal, and just recently, Mr. kip himself discovered how to get Screw Attack and Power Bombs quite earlier than usual.

No Problem Anger. Glad to be of help for once. (and you meant echo visor, not dark visor ;) ) And Blade, kip found that you can get the grapple earlier than normal. In the current run he has out he gets grapple before he gets the gravity boost.

As I've said before, I'm still missing one [EDIT: did I mention that before? I'm too lazy to check again...]. I don't have to time to get sucked into the singularity that is MP2. I think you should start off with Torvus Bog. I hated that level. Get that bastard out of the way... Then go wherever you'd like. Just don't spend anymore time in the bog than you need to. Oy that was a terrible place!

Hello there. Now I've got all the sky temple keys! *sweet* :) But I think I better collect some more missiles and tanks and other stuff before face the final stage. Right now I have about 150 missiles so Im gonna get more of those.

First time through (with 100% items and just over 80% scans) took about 21 hours for me. Doing a second run through now that's just a tad bit quicker, trying to 100% scans, dont' know if I'll get all the items again. Following the forums over at m2k2 has been quite entertaining...can't wait to see a run up on SDA/archive.org by kip or one of those folks with all the tricks discovered.

Yarbles, there already is a run up there. Kip doesn't think its any good but here's the link! http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/MetroidEchoes.html He does it all without getting a single missile upgrade or energy tank. It was insane!
