@air_devil: Ain't OS X able to run unix/linux programs as well? I thought it was built on that core. Otherwise you could perhaps use something like an emulator for windows? Can't remember what those programs are called in mac. Virtual PC perhaps? That should be fine.

I get the AVIs whenever I don't have the roms, which is most of the time. I usually share at least what I downloaded or more, so it balances out.

When those programs are compiled on OSX (or with a cross-compiler), yes. Edit: I liked this movie. Especially the simple details such as jumping over people. Also, it was cool to see FFMQ to be that high quality. The last time I played it on an emulator I couldn't enjoy the transparency effects because I was using a 8bpp screen.

Yeah, Bisqwit is right. I would have to compile them all from scratch. While this is doable, its all very ify. I don't really have the time to do this, especially right now. Its finals week here at my college. Anyways, whenever I download something from BT I always upload at least 1.5x the size. Its my way of giving back to the community! :D

One other ultra-minor improvement that you missed: After entering your name, you can just press Start instead of moving to End. Also, do you REALLY have to talk to the floating old guy in Level Forest? It seemed like I could progress just fine without doing so. Still, pretty neat thus far! -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

Yes, I think you're right. I didn't talk to him the first time in the Focus Tower, either. I've also found an easy way to manipulate both the enemies encountered and getting "strike firsts", which I didn't do at all in world 1. Now all I have left to figure out is how to make the enemies/bosses hit a certain character (my ally because he/she will always have a lot more HP to lose). My guess is it's determined at the start of a round, so I'll have to mess with waiting a few frames before I enter my attack selections. Bonus! I'll mail a prize to the first person who can tell me where my character's name comes from (without Googling!). New things to improve: - Press start after selecting the last letter in name - Don't talk to old man in Level Forest - Manipulate enemy types and "strike first" in world 1

For those of us without the ability to view the current run, what is the character's name? I do so love prizes. Especially Chanukah prizes! :D

Time to nerd it up... Isn't Tagazin a D&D monster / villain? That kind of rings a bell... but I could be WAY off.

I have no idea if the name comes from D&D or not, I've never played. I was thinking of somewhere else, but you're on the right track.

You don't need to get the cure spell in the first village. Since you get all your hp back when you beat a boss, you can finish the game without healing. This is my run so far. I don't know if I'm gonna finish it http://eleves_tim.cmaisonneuve.qc.ca/e0135106/Matyu%20-%20Final%20Fantasy%20-%20Mystic%20Quest%20(V1[1].1)%20(U).smv

Did you notice I used the Cure spell against Flamerous Rex? It's the strongest attack available, since I had no black magic for the Quake spell. That's the only reason I got it.

I don't think that works on the final boss. I remember trying that long ago and getting a message saying he was immune, though maybe it just missed, and luck manipulation would work.

Yeah, life works. If not, I know for a fact that Cure works. But I always prefer to beat him legitimately, since it's so damn hard. Those webs are killer. A lot has to go right for you to win.

Progress report! Test run, World 2 completed. Save state for world 2 start. (F9 slot) There are lots of things to be improved, including, but not limited to: - I didn't take the under-the-upper-floor shortcut in the Wintry Cave. I just forgot about it. D'oh! - I got both the Noble Armor and Venus Shield. The armor was useful for the Ice Golem battle, but it remains to be seen whether the shield will help (it protects against paralyze). - For some reason, I couldn't get any strike-firsts from the Falls Basin onward. Then again, I didn't try that hard. I only spent between 60-100 frames on average testing for it. If it's possible, this will definitely be corrected in the actual run. Even if it takes 3 seconds of waiting before I get one, that's still faster than a round of enemy attacks. - I got the Knight Sword, but didn't use it at all. The chest was right there, so I figured what the hell. I probably won't get it next time around, but it does grant a small agility bonus, which may or may not be useful in the future. - I'd like to avoid using the inn next time, especially since I still haven't used any of my seeds yet. My HP will be dangerously low, but at least now I know how to manipulate which enemy attack occurrs as well as the recipient. - All three boss fights can be improved, I think. I can do more damage vs. Squidite and Ice Golem with a critical bow shot than the spells I use. The Ice Golem fight is a bit tricky, since his only non-damage attack is Hypno-Sleep, which is harder to manipulate once you take off most of his HP. Tagazin is too slow to get an attack in beforehand, that's why I let him sleep until IG's attacks change (he starts using Snowstorm at a high probability rate). - Consecutive jumping around just for the fuck of it wastes a few frames. I won't do it next time. That's all I can think of for now. Happy holidays, everyone!

I haven't touched it since the last update. I bought a PS2 right after Xmas and that's kept me pretty busy. Once I finish GTA3 (I'm on the last mission), I'll start on world 3.

Hey if you ever get this started again, here's some improvements you can make. Rather than going into the menu when you get kaeli to change it to manual, you can change it to manual in battle by simply hitting a button (can't remember which one off the top of my head.) Cure potions are useless. Life will work on yourself, even if you're not dead. (all party members have it, and there really aren't any points where you don't have one) You can haggle Tristam down to 15 gp on those bombs. Your choice. Don't be afraid to use those seeds. Fireburg, the next town sells seeds. I generally use 1 seed in the ice cave, and then the other 2 in the pyramid. Use Thunder on those Lamias. Makes things go much faster. (well, use it on the first battle, I guess you fixed it after that one)

I haven't touched this run in a while. I made it a good ways into Lava Dome, and discovered that I (Tagazin) can't use the Life Spell to kill enemies with one hit. I tested every single frame in multiple battles, and it just won't connect. When Reuben uses it, it works fine, which leads me to believe that my level is too low. Or the spell is bugged. Whatever. I don't have plans to continue this test run anytime soon. Before I can proceed, I need to re-route Lava Dome and skip the Life Spell, as well as learning how to use the debugger for manipulation in battle (testing all those frames sucks so much), neither of which I have any interest in doing right now.

The reason I went into the menu was to change the HP window from the blocks to numbers, and I figured I'd switch her to manual while I was there. If I ever do attempt a submittable run, I won't be changing the HP window, so yeah, I can just hit Y to make her manual.
Cure potions are useless.
Yup, they sure are. In a submittable run, I wouldn't bother getting any.

But that takes longer, because the game has to scroll another block of text. In my opinion, speed is everything in RPG runs. Every little bit helps.
Don't be afraid to use those seeds.
This is true, but I'm pretty sure I used two for the Ice Golem fight. I can't remember.

Definitely. I wasn't sure how the magic/seed situation would be by the end of the Pyramid, so I was a little stingy with magic if I could manipulate an otherwise 1-roundable enemy encounter. You know something else? I never bothered to check left+right and up+down to see if they did anything. Plus, this movie was made with the old snes9x (unimproved). It might be best to start over from scratch, but like I said, I'm just not interested right now. I went ahead and uploaded my progress as it stands: Movie - ends after Life Spell in Lava Dome Snapshot - world 3 start (F9 slot)

I decided to take up this game while finishing up my chrono trigger run. My movie is two and a half minutes ahead of OmegaFlareX's run, up to the falls basin. The reason for the time saved is much better luck manipulation and skiping the cure spell and fire spell. I dont think there are any mistakes in my movie so far, so unless someone can see a mistake I will be submitting this file when it is complete. All synce settings are checked, using the (U) rom: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/456/mystic%20quest.smv
