I don't want to stir up a fuss or anything, but I've read some of the posts and they're pretty brutal when some minor mistakes are being made during games, so I don't feel I'm totally out of line here. It is possible to defeat Mike Tyson in the first round, so that being said it's not a timeattack. I think most people who have beaten the game more than a handful of times can beat him early in round 2. If you look at the fight from a purely aesthetic viewpoint, it's not very impressive either. The first and third rounds are played well, but round 2 has some issues with respect to blocking, punching at inappropriate times, etc. I think it would be interesting to see someone get through the game beating every fighter in one round.

All I can say is, wow. I especially like how Glass Joe was handled, heh. Normally I would at least hit him for the first 42, but it looks much more impressive with just the one punch.

Yes, share the link, or else it's worthless to come with such information, unless you want us to annoy you with our questions...?

Mike tyson's punch-out is without a doubt my favorite game on the nes, and I've just finished uploading my speed run where every boxer is defeated in the first round and beaten in close to record time. Save states where not used, I could have matched the world records for the boxers if I had used them; instead this is the product of the many years and countless hours I've spent playing this game and my dedication to it. You can see it my site. Enjoy :)

It is possible to beat Glass Joe at 0:36.Don't remember exactly how but it is and I'll try to redo it.

I agree with topic starter. I did not find that movie very impressive. Of course it is impressive to beat Tyson in the first place, but I have seen many more impressive attempts. Like Deviances for example.

Wow it seems that Miles Hardison have played the entire game perfectly.Have controlled the random perfectly. At first glance it seems unbeatable. Now I know that I must not do a timeattack for this game.

he used pretty much the same strategies in his time attack that I did on my speed run, but with savestates he was able to control the randomness, something I could not do playing the game from start to end. His time attack beats my speed run by a little over a minute, which is very good for me :)

Deviance, thanks for the info about the video codec you used. I am now able to watch your Punch-Out videos. Great work. I must have missed something here...who is "he" in this conversation?

Miles Hardison, the guy who made the punch out time attack on speedruns.org. At the end of the movie he gives thanks to Redtom (first to tko sandman in round 1). I don't know how involved Redtom was in the production of the video...

Hi. I have the codec to play the video (a la the comments page on speedruns.org), but I have no idea on which folder to place it in... I've tried everything from system32 to most of the folders that I use to play videos. x_X

Which video? Mine or Mike Hardisons? The techsmith codec was used in his video and it comes with an automatic installer. The codec I used in my videos was Xvid.

I have just redone the fight with Mike Tyson. My time is a lot better than the last version and in timeunits it's 1:58 which is 1 timeunit better than Miles Hardison.

Hello, I was just browsing the other day and I found bisqwit's site on time attacks. Man, I didn't know that time attacks was such a popular thing. I must say that every video I've watched is truly amazing. Plus, it takes me back to my youth. :) Anyways, what stunned me the most would have to be the punchout time attacks. I thought I dominated the game until I watched a few videos, now I just hang my head in shame, lol. My question was about the delayed punch. I've tried it many times and am unable to take off as much energy as you guys. Is there some special technique to doing this? If it's a big secret, then disregard this post. Just tell me to mind my own business. :) Anyways, great job on all videos and keep up the good work. I can't wait to show these videos to the guys at work! take care ^(^_^)^

Be sure to tell them that they were made using rerecording and slowdown. If you don't(and maybe even if you do) things might get ugly

I did a speedrun of this game and I can tell you that the delayed punch is something you get better at with a lot of practice to do consistently. Pause slightly before delivering the punch, and if you take the same amount of damage then you didn't time it correctly; just keep trying :) . It is the only way to TKO Tyson and Sandman in the first round.

I've been looming around here for some time and I thought it was time to throw together a run for my favorite game, Mike Tyson's Punch Out. The fights linked to here are a bit slow, and aside from the optimized Glass Joe and Don Flamenco, I've beaten (I think) all the times. But I had a couple of questions before I submit. 1) When fighting Sandman, I have two options and I was looking for opinions. I can take him out flawlessly by 2:46 in round 1 OR I can get knocked down once, forcing him into a second sleeper pattern and get him by 2:35ish. Faster or flawless - which makes a prettier video? 2) I'm currently using blip's FCEU emu for the run - is this permitted yet for runs? (Fairly new, no?) BTW - dig the site - hours of entertainment.
