Wow, I had completely forgot that the sanctuary where Dhaos was locked in has the Retaliation music theme. I thought it's only in Ifrit's place. It's very cool.
I wonder how are the voice samples going to work when I record the actual submission as AVI...
snes9x generally has had some problems with the voices (most notoriously the intro song, which sometimes chops and plays small pieces as noise).
The intro song will not be heard, but the introduction scene has sampled speech.
The battle against Demitel's trees was quite impressive.
Against Demitel, I think it would be a good idea to disable Klarth temporarily because Cless did seemed to damage faster by himself with Demitel cornered.
Your reactions to the dialog when talking to Alvanista's king was somewhat slow.
In Alvanista castle, why did you talk to the person who said 'Spirits? All I know is the Water Spirit, [...] Does that help you at all?' ?
Also, sometimes in shops it seemed like you shuffled the list up and down. What was this for? Why not do it in one straight sequence?
Battle against Gnome was very impressive too. You held them effectively very tame.
> Why did you talk to the person who said 'Spirits? All I know is the Water Spirit, [...] Does that help you at all?' ?
The party doesn't know about the locations of certain things in the game, even though the players (you, I) would know already. I think the "you have to talk to someone to find about location X first" conditionals in the game were:
* Demitel's island (talk to guys in Mayor's house in Venezzia, enables option for the ship to take you there)
* the Unicorn (talk to girl in Midgard, otherwise unicorn won't appear)
* Aska (talk to a girl in future Alvanista, enables option to ask Oz the computer about Aska)
* Undine (talk to researcher in the castle, enables option for the ship to take you there).
These are from memory. There may have been one other person who mentions the Unicorn, I don't remember precisely. I'm pretty sure about the others, though.
> Also, sometimes in shops it seemed like you shuffled the list up and down. What was this for? Why not do it in one straight sequence?
When you press R you skip to the next "page" of items, so you skip about 6 items at a time. But in the first two parts of the movie my menu manipulation isn't very good, so it's possible that you may have found an instance where I do it worse off.
> I found it surprising you skipped the Olive Village...
I come back to it later, there's nothing there until after Moria.
Trivia: I think this was one of the first console games to have human speech.... at least the first for the SNES. The Arche/Mint voice is so cute =D
Hmm... this game should apparently be encoded using the -y option (scaling), because the ending uses the double precision display mode.
Otherwise the texts appear distorted.
It's Origin's fault, it only messed up when summong him.
I just got the [!] J version and am playing around with it a bit, and so far I've recorded 30 minutes of good quality stuff and am considering some different strategies that will probably pay off, but it's already desynched so I'd have to redo the entire masoleum section >=[. This is very discouraging for me, and I have a feeling that it will probably happen more often ("yay, only 4 more hours to go"), otherwise I might make you a proper submission.

This is almost entirely unrelated, but ...
NAMCO released a 4-part ToP anime OVA (Original Video Animation, i.e. direct-to-retail release) earlier this year and the fansubbers are now happily translating it. Torrent here for the curious.
Pre-emptive answers: I rate the first episode a 2.9264 on a scale from e to pi. Yes, they've changed the storyline a bit. No, it's not as bad as the Eternia anime.
After watching ep1, ... it wasn't as good as I hoped. It spoils the entire game in the 1st episode despite following a different sequence of events.
But bonus points for having the same voice actor for Klarth and Arche as in the original game.
Yeah, I'm not sure anymore why I stayed up until 5 am this moring waiting for it to download so that I could watch it. If you haven't played the game, you probably shouldn't watch it. It was kind of enjoyable though. Arche was different that I thought she would be. And it was way to rushed. Oh, and NAMCO did NOT release a four part OVA earlier this year. They released the first one out of four. The next one comes out in two months (minus one week), and the other ones two months apart as well. So we'll be finishing this series half a year from now.
Have fun.
I found some "mistakes" in your current video. (but I've just watched teh first two parts)
- In the fight with Maxwell, when he gets between you you could have used the "Blade Storm" technique to fight him. Generally its a cool trick to corner an enemy between you and an ally. I think this would also work with Gale Shield or Teleport ...
-> Damn, I should have used paper and pencil to write up the mistakes I noted. Sorry, can't remember anymore atm.
- Many fights are astonishingly fast (Ifrit or Gnome especially was way cool), but some are just two lengthy for a "perfect" movie.

I'm just wondering if the ToP translation team is planning on translating anymore of Namco's shows. I still only see the first episode on the site. And yeah, they really did spoil the game within the first couple of minutes.
The second episode will be released at January 26th. Naturally it can't be fansubbed before it's available.
The third episode will be released in March, and the fourth has not a set date yet.

The Japanese company "Media Factory" sent out C&D letters to a number of fansub groups (and an anime torrent listing site) telling them to stop subbing anything by them.. that just happened last month.
In fact, I posit that most companies are *very* interested in protecting their IP (in this case, anime), but either are unaware of _specific_ groups doing the work, or are inconvenienced by the language barrier and choose not to make the effort because of it.
If someone were to provide these companies with a well-written e-mail (in Japanese), pointing at the groups and individuals that are illegally redistributing their material, I'm 100% sure that they will act on it, because they have done so in the past.
However, given that the reason fansubs exist is _because_ the audience can't speak Japanese, it seems highly improbable that anyone would actually have (a) enough Japanese fluency to write a formal letter to the companies, and (b) enough dislike of fansubbers to get their operations shut down.
The American companies, naturally, won't protect anything until they firmly hold the rights to it -- after all, why waste money protecting something that another company might get? ... and then there's the French/German/Swedish/Spanish fansubbers that English-language fansub viewers wouldn't be aware of.. so once again, ignorance (and language) acts as a barrier, protecting the fansubber from the companies.
I'm sure if they really cared, language would not be a problem, and shutting down the major torrent groups would not be either. Getting to the IRC ones would be more difficult. Anyways, what I was trying to say is that you're not going to get in trouble for downloading anime.
