I've been doing research on Xbox console emulation for more than a year, and now finally getting my hands on the required hardware, I got around to experimenting with FCE-Ultra, and learned that it allows up to 10 minutes of recording time. Obviously some games wouldn't be possible doing TAs for, but I DID take a try at SMB1. Unfortunately, the movie recording feature is still kinda buggy, as the movie ended after the savestate ended where an alternate began. Eventually, though, these emus will support re-recording, so it leads me to ask: Would Xbox (S)NES/Genesis submissions be accepted, and under what terms? . . . . . . I'll go stand over here now. *Stands in the corner*

Although I'm not the one who would ultimately decide, I'd think the #1 criteria for them being accepted is if other members (especially Bisqwit and\or Phil) are able to watch them as well. Regardless of how well a run could be, if it can't be watched and voted on, or Bisqwit and Phil cannot encode it, it stands next to no chance of being accepted. Also, since this would simply be emulation of the same systems on a different sort of computer, it'll have to compete with the games currently published\being worked on. So, it'd still have to beat currently existing runs, it'd have to at match known world records, and it'd have to be entertaining. Although, if those aren't a problem then everything should be perfectly fine, I think. :) (Once again, I'm not the final word on this, but I think these two points would be the only big ones stopping such a run from being submitted.)

unless its a big advantage to make the runs on a xbox which would make a lot of submissions be clearly better to be made in xbox, i dont think it would be acceptable for video processing reasons. the video processing and submission voting systems need to be as "automated" as possible, and such variations in movie formats doesnt make things easier

Well.. I would say, as long as everybody can watch the runs without having to buy any special hardware (meaning I want a program that runs with windows to watch the movies) it should be ok and accepted as regular movies made with Windows, Linux or Mac compatible emulators.

I'm pretty sure that the movie files created could be converted after transferring them over to the PC via FTP, and as for the movies themselves........I do have a Hauppauge PVR-250. ;) Unfortunately, I don't think I have the skills to make "entertaining" movies.:-(

Well.. The skills will grow as you learn how to handle the emulator. I have made three runs so far. Two of them were serious attempts. Also I have played around alot with certein games and emulator in order to get the hang of it. The final product will hopefully be an entertaining movie. But it takes ALOT of time to put together. All you will need is patience and creativity.

This sounds like a dead end. Consider these points:
{1}Ten minutes of recording time eliminates nearly all games from consideration. {2}The output file (FCM, for example) would have to be viewable by others. I could be wrong, but I don't think the emulators we use for this site are the same on the XBox. {3}If you want to record your own gameplay video files, go ahead, but this site only accepts emulator movies, not video submissions.
So I don't think your XBox experiment will involve us, but it sounds like fun.

but theres a difference between you watching it on the emulator and phil or bisqwit making an avi out of it...
