But you really first have to be there at 3:30 (the Aliens enter the barn at ~3:50 so that should give you enough time). It gets a little complicated through the Epona cutscene, but 3:30 should still suffice.
We should arrive at the Epona cutscene as late as possible to avoid waiting; Mukki's run arrives way too early. This will save frames by making use the time doing useful things, or skipping it altogether. The amount of time that will be needed to destroy the first set of aliens at the last possible moment will determine the latest time of arrival, which I imagine would be later than 3:30.

Well at about 3:30 they are directly in front of the Barn. At 3:50 they are in and in the meantime they are half (they go through the walls) in and I don't exactly know if you can still shoot them. Sorry, I wasn't really clear about that. So I think 3:30 is the way to go, but it would be cool if you would try it out. I think one should superslide to the right of the wooden crate, kill the Alien that is right of the barn, then take a step left and activate the Epona cutscene. this will bring you in front of the gate that keeps her in. If you now step a little bit to the right you should be in the perfect position to shoot the rest of them (most should go down with one arrow). But in the end I really can't say where the song of double time should be played. It would have to be tested and since it is a long way from the zora game to the ranch it would take quite some time.

Since we cannot do any better than having the SoDT right after the Zora Pot game, I suggest we be ambitious and play it right then. then one of three situations happens. --We get to the ranch after the last possible second. OK, that'll require some redoing, but we'll know exactly what time to play the SoDT, and we'll know that absolutely no time is wasted. --We get to the ranch at or slightly before the last possible second. No problems. --We get to the ranch with a fair amount of time before the last possible second. Since we can't play the SoDT any earlier, we'll just have to wait a bit. We could get some rupees from the bushes in Termina Field or something. Heck, if we can get enough from the bushes, we can forgo some of the later rupee sources, saving time in the long run. So, I think that's advantageous, provided SL is okay with the possibility of having to redo this part of the game if he's not fast enough.

I wouldn't be so sure...

Well there really isn't another choice I'm afraid. The only other way would be if someone with exactly as much skill as SL were to test this part out and optimize it as if it was the real speedrun. So it's probably the best to just take the risk. The time you get to the ranch allways is a risk-factor, in any route. Btw. do we have a final route at this point? It has been a long time ago since we had one. XD

Btw, when shooting the aliens, the game seems to lag for a split second. If you don't want the alien part to be an entertainment/speed trade-off as in Mukki's run, you could try minimizing the number of aliens you really have to shoot.

That's extremely irritating, but it's not worse than having my lullaby skip go to waste, so I'll just do it and deal with it.

Well you are extremely fast and it should be doable, so I'm to 95% sure that you'll make it in time.

Okay, I'll finish up the first cycle today then. How many rupees are we getting on this cycle again? It keeps changing. EDIT: Depending on how many rupees we need, it might be faster to skip the chest in the inn. This would save 2 screen transitions and the chest opening sequence. Possible routes for this are... 1. ECT -> NCT -> ECT -> Termina Field -> WCT -> SCT -> ECT -> Termina Field -> WCT -> SCT -> ECT -> Termina Field -> WCT 2. ECT -> Termina Field -> NCT -> SCT -> WCT -> SCT -> ECT -> Termina Field -> WCT -> SCT -> ECT -> Termina Field -> WCT Same number of transitions, but I reckon 2 is faster. In 2, the first field visit would be a small one, and wouldn't get 99, just enough to make complete the collection (the other two runs would both be 99).

Well, as long as it gets 210 rupees it's good, but I can see how that would be faster. Certainly worth a try. Also, if it doesn't lose any time, there's no harm in getting more than 210 rupees. So, did you ever test whether it was faster to do stories with grandma or just dance with the scarecrow 5 times?

Yep, tested that, and some other things in this WIP so far. Talking to grandma was over 2000 frames faster than dancing with Pierre five times (and that's without including the ECT introduction cutscene). The other "major" difference is when I get the fairy. Instead of going to ECT from the northern SCT entrance, I go from the southern one, grab the fairy, go into the inn, get the chest, out the top door, over the fence to Link's left, and into NCT. Of course, if going to the field is faster after all, this won't matter. :P EDIT: This method is faster regardless. Entering NCT from the field skips the introduction scene (and it also doesn't start when exiting the Fairy Fountain). And as far as I know, I won't be coming back to NCT in this run. ^_^

Nice catch with that NCT cutscene. Always good to skip those first-time entrance scenes. In fact, I think the new route skips all of the following entrance cutscenes. -Ikana Canyon -Southern Swamp -Mountain Village -Snowhead -North Clock Town -South Clock Town Also, 2000 frames? O_o I thought it'd be closer than that. I suppose the dancing cutscene and the day-change cutscene really add up, though.

@SL How are you going to get the 12r? Do you have the time for two and a half trips through termina field without being there when the cutscene starts? (remeber it's much longer there) Edit: @petrie Uh those missing cutscenes will save quite some time. I hadn't thought about that, but now that mention it, yeah they were missing. ^^

petrie: Yeah, I was surprised too... Slowking: I guess we'll see. I'm getting the 12 rupees from the field.

and finally my second TAS. This time it's stone tower with the new boss key skip in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NZ-Rp874-M some parts didn't turn out too greatly, but hey, I started TASing 3 days ago....

Are you TASing it to a low percentage, or are you playing it frame by frame?

Nice work MrGrunz. ^^ @SL Are you through the first cycle and did you make it in time?

here's a new trick to change camera angles while hovering: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFpdkaIvY9I how to is in the description. Might save some bombchus on stone tower boss key skip

I decided to optimize the Inverted Stone Tower Skip even more. With some logical geometry thinking and my recent hover findings I was able to do it with 21 instead of the 25 petrie used! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VUXOeS7tHc now we don#t have to go back to the mirror room to get more bombs anymore :) edit: I've discovered way that uses only 20-22 explosives should I also mak a video about it? it uses a different OoB

Hmm nice one. Always a good thing when you can save explosives. I would really like to know how the first cycle went... Btw. I ran the route up to the ranch again and this time I was there at 2:30. Granted I used some moon jumping, but my walking isn't really optimized, so I'm even more sure that it's doable until 3:30.

I haven't finished the first cycle yet. I'm doing the second of three field trips. Since this is like the fifth f'ing time I'm doing it, I have next to no motivation.

the good thing is, that the any% category is pushed to it's limits now, so you don't have to be frightend, that there will be new major thinks discovered

Oh in this case I'm really sorry for bothering you. I was under the impression that it was allready done. Take your time. ^^

Dangerous words indeed. :D But in this case I agree with MrGrunz, unless ofcourse something like RBA is discovered for MM. Considering how fast you can get the witches bottle and that you can bomb yourself into the clocktower, the second cycle wouldn't last more than 15 minutes.
