Emulator: patched Famtasia 5.1
Aim: Best Time, No Death
Solstice is one of those unknown nes gems. Very unique gameplay but kinda hard to control because of the isometric view.
Actually this is my 9th (official) version an I've finally broke the 6min mark.

Bisqwit: I would have hoped you make it with FCEU instead, because it has better sound quality...
But this movie looks good anyway.
Note that Famtasia plays PAL games at wrong speed, so the actual time of this movie is not under 6 minutes, but more like 7:09 instead. (v8 was 7:29.)

Holy crap! I can't believe this was reduced to under 6 minutes! It was a pain to get it working with Famtasia, but when I did.. woah! Now.. the one question that comes to mind though... Is the European version faster then the USA rom via timing issues? [Since it isn't a UE rom or such] and by that token, why not use FCEU since the Solstice [U] rom works flawlessly under it and it has the frame advance option? [Extreme tightness! Considering the fact that with the PAL time-fix, this movie is 7:09 and the Twin Galaxies WR is at 6:42, I believe that this breaks the rule of needing to be faster than the existing WR. Unfortunate, too, because this is a good movie.

Sounds incredible. Is it possible I miscalculated? I verified with FCEU PAL option that the ROM indeed plays too fast in Famtasia. I adjusted it by multiplying the time by 1.2 (ratio 60/50). How is the TG time calculated btw? If it skips the intro sequence...

Bisqwit, These are the settings for the Minimalist Completion as posted on the TG Forums, the TG Database and my own personal settings file. [Which is sitting at 142k ^^;;] Solstice [Minimalist Speedrun] 5 Life Game [Recording ends either when you lose your 5th life OR when the game is completed in accordance with the rules outlined below.] Special Rules: Timer begins when you hit the Start Button on the title screen and the timer ends when you enter the final garden room to confront the evil wizard, Morbius. The game MUST be finished and use no more than 5 lives, or your record/attempt will be disqualified. The ending is pretty much the EXACT point where you guys end the timer for the Solstice runs. Adam's time was achieved on a [U] Catridge.... but more so to that.. Were not all his previous runs achieved via the [E] cart and Famtasia..? or am I imagining things? [Lost my archve in a hd crash and I had all versions of all runs, more to compare the differences between each and learn, at that point.] I hope that helps out. :) Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

EDIT: My run is that fast because I played an NTSC cartridge as opposed to the PAL ROM being used in this time attack. Watching the video was interesting, though. I was expecting him to do a certain trick and he instead did a variation of it. From the looks of it, our shortcuts appear to save the exact same amount of time, though I'll look into it some more. Anyways, this video is technically slower, but rest assured it beats my time.

After looking into it, this video still is not the perfect route, though it is damn close. I vote Yes.

Ok i'll try to respond to some comments. Why Famtasia and PAL rom. It's the fastest way to see if there was an improvement to a prior run. It doesn't trouble me if the game plays a bit too fast. make the file look more interesting. Lucid: Are you talking about about more or less drastic route changing or small changes like the backtrace of the 3rd staff piece? I may do a NTSC-FCEU run sometimes in the future. But spare time is rare. (studies) Exim PS: Equinox sucks.. PPS: anyone into romhacking? actually I know where the room data is located and more or less how it's encoded but I can't find out how the data is accessed (thought of a pointer table but can't find it.)
