Brief Narrative

Arthur's fiancé was once again kidnapped by demons soon before their marriage. Once more Sir Arthur must brave the forces of the underworld in his skivvies.

The Run

This run is dedicated to the players who've thrown their controller at their TV out of frustration towards this game; they will greatly appreciate this movie. Arthur moves through most obstacles with ease, while most bosses perish before they even get to attack. Even the mighty Sardius couldn't withstand the barrage.
Ordinarily, completing the game requires running through it twice to pick up the goddess bracelet. Because this would be much too repetitive to be entertaining, I use a code that takes me straight to the bosses right before Sardius.
A lot of people have been waiting for a good run of this game. I hope this is good enough for them.

A Few Words

  • I pick up the bracelet in level 2 for a few reasons: 2-2 is an autoscroller, and it works really well against the bosses from that level on. I was surprised at how effective the bracelet can be.
  • As with the Genesis version, jumping is about 12% faster than walking. Double jumping is the same speed as walking, so there are a few times where I end up clipping a ledge.
  • Somehow I got level 4-2 to not shake very much. You're welcome.
  • Dang RNG screwed me over against the fourth boss. Stupid heads wouldn't stay together. :(
  • I had to pause a couple of times in level 7 to keep the bird heads from stretching out.
  • Many of the bosses were painful to put together. A lot of strategies would *almost* work, resulting in a lot of headaches (if only it was a few pixels back...). Regardless, I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. Eat that, Sardius!
Big thanks to gocha for showing me nao's attempt at the first level, and nao for said WIP.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Plays at hardest difficulty
  • Manipulates luck
  • Uses a password
  • Snes9x 14.3 Rev.13
Enjoy!

mmbossman: Looks like good password use, and the game has a certain charm about it. Too much running around in underwear for my tastes, but I'm accepting it anyway.

Count me in for one who was the controller throwing type when it comes to this game. I can get through the game twice, with little difficulty... until it comes time to use the f$&#@$ goddess bracelet. Worst weapon in the game. I love how the game says 'Who knew it was such a powerful weapon?" Except for the fact that it loving sucks ass. Also, speaking of the end, wow this game is hilariously sexist. All in all, that was pretty damn good. The damage boosts were surprising. I kept waiting for you to get gold armor to fight sardius... looks like that would have been a totally pointless move. You miss a few times in the first few fights... I'm assuming for luck manipulation?
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.

Against Astaroth and Nebiroth? No misses there. Their hitboxes are actually quite large; they're just covered by their nigh-impenetrable arms. I throw a couple of lances at them as they're forming so I can get a couple of early hits in. Glad you liked it. Edit: On second viewing, I see what you mean. Those lances actually strike offscreen, making it look like I miss when I didn't.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

Loved the run. Certainly brings back memories of the countless hours I spent to finally beat this game, only to find I needed to play through the entire game again. Good times. Autoscrollers were also pretty entertaining to me

Wow, Sardius sure took it hard. The shortcuts used are pretty clever, too. It was an enjoyable watch, thanks.

Great TAS. This one makes a hard game looks so easy.

Stupid confusing titles for different platforms. This is the version I want to see badly, even though I barely watch TAS'es nowadays. So the comment in this thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7835&start=20 should instead be here.

I find it quite amazing how different this tas is compared with the speedrun kareshi did. 'Cause via frame advance and rerecordings, you didnt use even once that special power. Beautiful run, voted yes!

Here is an encoded video I made. http://www.mediafire.com/?jhjmeymgywj Probably, it's available until the run will be published.

Thanks for the encode, Gocha! Man, I can't give over how goofy Arthur's one-frame jump animation is. Especially given how they could easily have done a better job of animating it on the SNES (or, for that matter, on the Genesis), but chose not to. I suggest the bit in stage 3 where Arthur walks through lava in his boxer shorts for a screenshot:

Good damage boosts, if I thought the jumping incessantly noise was a bit annoying. Nicely done. Yes. Nobody really knows just how much we tend to depend on air control until playing this game

wait this game has a guy named astaroth i did not know that man if only he had a boob jump attack
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

Music of first level took me back to horrible memories of IWBTG. Funny how it worked in reverse after all this time. Also the site page for this run is broken.

I use the knife for my speedrun, it has the dragon magic power. The bracelet doesn't have a magic attack.

Amazing job making a notoriously clunky hero appear acrobatic. This run makes for a nice middle finger toward the game.
