Game objectives

  • Abuses programming errors

  • Uses death to save time

To the Sword

  • The protagonist's name was changed to 'V'. There is no particular reason for this.
  • 1 frame gained from a boost off the Bow-wow.
  • 3 frames saved by optimizing the damage boost off the octorok.
  • 3 frames gained through a damage boost using the urchins on the beach.
  • L/R/D are pressed during the spin immediately after taking the sword, but there is no particular reason for it.

Stealing from the Shop

  • 4 frames gained for some unknown reason (?).
  • 3 frames lost due to the cycle in the shopkeeper's orientation.
  • At the game over screen after being killed by the shopkeeper L/R/D was pressed, but it does not have any purpose.
  • 1 frame loss due to the shopkeeper's orientation cycle.

Setting up the Warping Glitch

  • 2 frames gained by using a corner boost.
  • 1 frame saved for some unknown reason (?).
  • 3 frames gained from optimizing the Bow-wow boost.
  • 12 frames saved by applying the A/B/Up/Down bug to a spin attack to kill the 2 octoroks.

Doghouse Glitch

  • 25 frames saved by optimizing the use of bugged tiles.
  • 3 frames saved by eliminating the lag when opening and closing the menu.

Last boss

1st Form
  • Unchanged.
2nd Form
  • Unchanged.
3rd Form
  • 7 frames gained by hitting with the very end of the first spin attack.
4th Form
  • Unchanged.
5th Form
  • Killed with a spin attack, for no particular reason.
6th Form
  • 15 frames saved by speeding up eye opening even further.
total 75 frames saving.

It's how they fake the transparency. See also: water edge in [Gen]Sonic 1. In S3K they appear to do it half-screen at a time instead of every other segment, looks nicer to me. One of those cases where having our 'good' displays makes things not look like they ought

I've replace the torrent with a slightly updated one, fixing the encodes filename and potentially improving download speeds (And be sure to post if the torrent refuses to work with your client, telling us what client you use). I also Dailymotioned it because why the hell not. Incidentally, after looking at the quality of this encode, I now worship Aktan for saving our eyes from having their retinas burned away by compression artifacts*. *Basically, this means we use much better encoding methods nowadays, no offense is intended towards the original encoder, of which was probably doing a bang up job for the day that this was published.
