I spent most of the evening putting together an animation where I play with a little Dr. Mario, putting him and a virus in action before the 2-second mark. The frame rate is 30 for now, but I can always go back to make it 60. I like some feedback! Here's my latest upload... http://megaswf.com/view/f54cb6def936bca17f367c5e54e27b65.html Edit: I updated, so I changed the link.

Hmm...my only feedback is that Doc should do the shrug for longer. That might require manipulating the timing of the rest of the animation though. Looks good otherwise.

Nice! But yeah, he should definitely shrug longer. It's funny how the virus's head gets knocked to the side a little bit when the pill hits.

That was pretty simple. In Photoshop, all I had to do was crop the top part of that virus and move it one pixel to the left, while leaving its feet on the ground. Of course you can't find that in the actual game, but it's no problem if you play with each pixel of certain objects with PS. I used Flash the whole time, and I know that allows frame-by-frame editing. Big thanx so far. :)

Good job on the artistical achievement. As for a TASVideos encoder logo, that is unacceptable.

The logo should display prominently the website of http://TASvideos.org/ , and the text "This is a tool-assisted emulator movie" or a close variant thereof. An animation or avatar can be used by the encoder's discretion, but the thing that is most centrally present should be the website address, and the mention that it is a tool-assisted movie.
(Emphasis added) The URL should be placed such that the eyes intuitively first focus on it (and the label below it) in such manner that it can be read entirely at the very first seeing of the logo in the time it appears on the screen before being distracted with other things on the screen. (Needs a slightly more legible font to achieve that, too.) Also, the URL should end with a slash (http://TASVideos.org/). Ps: This one is for you, too. It doesn't disturb the natural direction of reading. > Why? > > I place my replies after the context they're replying to. > > > What do you do then? > > > > No. > > > > > Do you like top-posting?

Updated. It's now 60 fps. The goal here is to make sure the Doc does not shrug the whole time. Just throw the pill, hit the virus, shrug for less than a second (48 frames, which I thought would be good enough), and then go on with the emulator movie. Ya don't want to make ol' Bisqwit mad for breaking 120 frames (2 seconds) in a logo, or he can throw a pill at you! lol http://megaswf.com/view/f54cb6def936bca17f367c5e54e27b65.html I chose MegaSWF for temporary hosting because Photobucket disabled SWF uploading to free-bies, they suck.

For what it's worth, I love the animation. I hope this new one meets the tasvideos requirements. And then someone needs to want to use it.

To say the least, I can put up an FLA that should contain the whole Flash script of this that I created so it can be later imported to AVI (which is possible in Flash CS4). BUT, I do not know if anyone around here even uses Flash for animation and movie editing, quite like I do.

This one is fine, maybe even good.

Pretty neat. I don't know how much time should the splash screen last, but maybe you could make Mario and the Virus appears a couple of seconds later. That way, we would see TASVideos first. I must admit I didn't even notice the website because of the animation.

Originally, I had planned for this to be my SNES logo screen, but ultimately decided against it because it distracts from the text.

Here, an interesting "ending" logo. And then I need to take some time off. http://megaswf.com/view/b9bde9b532ed80d4359ec91f1c8c4e70.html

I agree with this. Maybe Let the animation finish completely before ending the logo. Like he said you don't really notice the site name.

The link below contains AVI's that are used for logo placement at the beginning and the end of an emulator movie. It also contains Flash CS3/CS4 documents so advanced users can get the idea of what all I did to create the animations precisely. Read more about the latest version of Flash at Adobe's web site if you're not familiar with this program. http://rapidshare.com/files/239791535/dr_mario_logo.rar It's not that I am encouraging everyone to start using Flash, it's that I learned a lot from this program years back when I was in college. :)

Nice accomplishment, but as for a logo to be used in AVI encodes, there are problems: The blue and red colors you used are problematic for two reasons: They are of just the kind of quality that is likely to get blurred up beyond recognition by chroma supersampling (loss of color definition by 4:2:0 coding), and they're too dark. On most monitors, especially CRTs, they're practically invisible because those monitors are tuned too dark. Also, the encoder name would be good to be indicated in text (though very subtly). I know, ShinyDoofy has been breaking this guideline too, and I'm not happy about it. Also, it does not have to be 2 seconds long, it can be shorter too.

Is it best to use cyan, yellow, and lime colors in a logo instead of red and blue?! I thought they'd stand out more.

AFAIK any bright color with a significant amount of green color component against a very dark background (or the other way around, although usually black or very dark background seems to be the de-facto standard) is going to be much more visible and survive even heavy compression much better than dim colors with little or no green component against that dark background. Usually green is the color component which is both most visible to the human eye and least destroyed by lossy video compression formats. (Edit: And by this I don't mean the text has to be green. I mean that the green component of the color should be strong. This includes colors like yellows, cyans and, of course, white.)

Ok, thank you. :) Notice in my Dr. Mario intro and outro logos that the encoder name was not placed in. If you want a Dr. Mario logo video with your encoder's name on it, I'll only accept P/M's about that. I'll hook you up with the temporary links to your custom logo videos and you can do whatever you please. If you're more advanced, feel free to take what I already posted and have fun, knock yourself out. :)
