I am at a HORRENDOUS loss at this game. When you get around to the 150cc cups on this game, the item spam and the racer AI is terrible! And forget the Wii Wheel. Times before did I try to play the game with it, and the stupid wheel doesn't want to turn the car the way I wanted it! It's impossible to get a three-star rank on every cup, and every engine class, even mirror mode, without getting blasted by every item and obstacle imaginable out there, in this game! Or falling off the race track... Now I would want to practice playing using a powersave, but what's the big risk using such a file, and what happens if the big-N decides to roll out a new patch to the Wii firmware?

Unless the so-called powersave is very obviously marked as being such, I wouldn't be concerned about it. Nintendo's IOS format is a very poor construct. They depend on the system's limited amount of internal memory to be saved to, and as such, you will never see anything terribly feature-rich included in a system update, nor will you see them go out of their way to stomp out any form of cheating on the client side. The only thing you would have to worry about is actively cheating in online matches, which will, in all likelihood, get your system's MAC address banned from playing the game online ever again. Cheating offline, however, is a totally different story. As long as you remain offline, you can cheat to your heart's content.

Now, I'll be using this to practice on... How do I make sure to achieve ultimate greatness while keeping my sanity racing on 150cc and mirror?

You don't, in my experience. No AI cheats as openly as Mario Kart's, and you don't have much in the way of methods at your disposal to fight back. You only get decent items if you're at the back of the pack, and at 150cc, there's no way you can use those decent items to catch up once you get them. The AI breaks the laws of the physics model to suit its own purposes. You basically wait for the stars and planets to align while praying to the gods of RNGs that you'll make it through each race in the series to a favorable result.

So ... Now what, are you saying I'm screwed? This is basically the same exact crap I've been getting on the Gamecube game Mario Kart: Double Dash! All over #nesvideos I've been complaining how MKWii fails at how it "grades" your driving style, even. It would give me as low as A-rank, B-rank, C-rank, etc ... when on the 50cc and 100cc I've gotten 2-star and 3-star rankings already!

Not that I condone cheating, but there's always Bannerbomb -> Homebrew Channel -> Gecko OS -> profit. Actually, Mario Kart is one of the few instances where I wouldn't fault someone for cheating. When the game itself cheats against you, I say all's fair. Other instances I'll turn a blind eye to: light/dark ammo in Metroid Prime 2, money in Dragon Quest VIII, gambits and gambit slots in FFXII (which thankfully are open from the get-go in XII International).

What would I have to do first, ignore the ratings and concentrate on getting the gold cups first? Just so you know, I deleted the powersave.

Mario Kart: DD is incredibly easy. Just master the slide-boost and you breeze through the game easily. Same with Mario Kart DS. I honestly don't remember how I fared in Mario Kart Wii. If I remember correctly, you just do the same until you happen to not get a blue shell up your ass on the final lap every time. Yeah, I don't know how you're supposed to get three stars on 150cc. Honestly, it's impossible.
