Great! Post here if you need input. I know there are a bunch of people including myself following this thread. I just played through the game on Wii Virtual Console, so I'm refamiliarized with it.

thanks ^^ i entered a little battle (3 xanaflagues) to get familiar with the ram watch an search ... ok, there are only about 70 adresses which chance in battle, more or less, some in pattern, some random, so i guess i should be able to figure out what is what, but a little "noobish" question, everything that that is not static should show up, looking for changes, right? such as animations, sounds and of course the rng(s)? is there a way to export these values from ramwatch/search? i guess not ... data size i a good question to ... guess i go search for a more "colorfull" battle, hope i find those old savestats ^^# --- add: jup, found them, and they are working, dont know which version of gens i used that time, but an very old *g* k, this will not be an easy one, had a file in battle with lashiec, one command left for attack, 7 frames long chaz using rever, than one frame rika doubleslash, than chaz rever again, until jet i found only patterns which does not match what i see ... that stuff needs brain work and time --- add2: and what are those tracer tools? what can be done with them?

the WIP in this thread desyncs if you clear the sram data. so I just wondering if it would even be accepted if somebody decided to finish this run from the WIP.

The tracer tools produce a log of each command executed by the game while "Trace" is checked, and include all reads/writes to memory in that log while "Hook RAM" is checked. The contents of every CPU register are also included after each instruction. It's somewhat advanced, but if you familiarize yourself with 68K Assembly, it allows for unprecedented understanding of the internal mechanics of the game. For instance, this is how you could find the "random" number generation process.

you're 132 frames slower then the old WIP that I have available, I think most of this is from talking to the statue (which I assume you had a good reason for that I don't know of.) but I think you could also save some time in the battle by setting up a macro. you also don't kill off hahn like he does which I think helps by giving your other characters more exp in later battles. you probably understand if and how much this would help more then I do though. I think you can manipulate the battles by pressing random keys while waiting btw so you should be able to manipulate macros and having hahn die with out too much waste of time.

I agree with the post above. There should be no reason to talk to the statue. Additionally, right when you first get control of chaz, you should go into the pause menu and set talk and battle speed to max. That cost you some frames in the boss battle. Keep it up though. I love this game and I love watching WIPs!

for the statue : I want to show as many references to previous PS as possible (entertainment). That's why my run might be longer than expected... for the macro : I can give it a try. Will I always attack the monster generating other monsters with vortex? for the killling off : that was actually much slower (over 200 frames). Maybe if I unequip him...

I do not suggest adding entertainment, you should try for the lowest time possible since this run is already going to be many hours long.

Contrarily, I do suggest adding entertainment, precisely because the run is going to be so long. A few frames lost to doing something interesting is a comparatively small sacrifice.

really? it's one of the RPGs I know of with the least battles. I should try with and without, I suppose

If that's your goal, then I'd recommend you make it a 100%/All Quests run. The sidequests don't take terribly long (I think Silver Soldier is the longest one) and there aren't that many of them.

I'd agree with the 100% + entertainment run. Of course, I'd most like to see a pure speed run since there has yet to be a single published ps4 tas yet :( Whatever you choose, though, I'll support it. I love this game!

i was thinking about the silvertusk sidequest (Myau) and the last job at the guild, mainly. and also the wreckage, right after we get rika SHould I get the robot's special weapons? These quests are long, but I can gain much needed experience

You may as well go for the robot upgrades. You can manipulate how many battles in those areas you want to fight to level, so it shouldn't be too long to get through them.

May I suggest speeding up the "btl spd" in the start menu from speed 3 to speed 1? The displaying of the damage, while I can't give you precise numbers, would drop from about 4/5 of a second to about 1/3 of a second each time damage is displayed. I'm thinking the time saved would add up in a real hurry.

OMG, may this see the light of day eventually? Here's to hoping it doesn't take the way of Duke Nukem Fornever.

This sounds like a serious oversight.

Cool that someone is working on this one again. Things that I thought of while watching. I dont really see the point of talking to the statue, except for some meaningless text that takes alot of frames ;) Try to setup some macros before entering the battle, they will save you alot of time while fighting your enemies. How come you didnt kill Hahn at the first Igglandova? He is kinda usless and even if you place him on defend he will first take frames, combat input and last steal your partymembers exp ;) Try to walk smarter, like in a straight line. I know that you dont lose any frames, but it looks better. You know that you can kill Igglandova with Gryz Crash when you encounter him the second time ;) He will die instant without any extra mobs and you will save around 2mins there... just a tip :P Plan your lvling later on... and not like I did(Kill a worm, go to the inn, rest, repeat). Instead Kill the son-of-the-worm, teleport to the garage(were you find the landover), step on the healingpod and teleport back. I know that you will lose some frames on that tactic, but you save your money... this is the reason why my run came to an end. I didnt plan my lvling good enough and I didnt had the strengh to redo the whooole run. So try to save your money, pick up boxes with mesetas inside(if they are close to your route).. so you can buy some nice armor just before facing Lashiec. :) Good luck to you. :)

I want to add entertainment with references to ''the past''. Otherwise, the game is quite short

for the first fight, macros take longer because it attacks igglanova; spawns have time to attack. maybe for the following ones. maybe for the second one
How come you didnt kill Hahn at the first Igglandova? He is kinda usless and even if you place him on defend he will first take frames, combat input and last steal your partymembers exp ;)
killing him takes more time than making him just stand him in defence. besides, he resurects before the 2nd igglanova fight
Try to walk smarter, like in a straight line. I know that you dont lose any frames, but it looks better.
i didn't test it, but i don't think it makes a difference. and since the characters move so quickly, this is convenient
Plan your lvling later on... and not like I did(Kill a worm, go to the inn, rest, repeat). Instead Kill the son-of-the-worm, teleport to the garage(were you find the landover), step on the healingpod and teleport back.
hun? SHould I avoid the sandworm or not?

Ofc you should kill sandworms later on. They are the fastest way to lvl on. I just gave you a tip how to save your mesetas while lvling instead of using the inn at the town and waste alot of meseatas. :]
