Looking good, andymac. Sorry I didn't get to it; as mentioned earlier, quite busy reading Umineko EP4. I'll see about doing Marble Zone and Volcano Castle when I get home tonight if I'm not too tired; gonna be helping a friend move some stuff after a doctor's appointment.

Crap, I'm going to have to redo. I thought you had to keep running speed when ascending, so I used 6/5, but I was wrong. you can lock your speed at 49 for the ascent and then manipulate it to 51 later.

something like this abcde if you can get better flight positions at the end you might be able to get it with no slow down at all. also the way you do it.. you don't have to drop the shell on the ground to be able to grab it while flying, you can do it all in the air. this could still have better placement at the end to open the key sooner, but it's 2 frames faster than abcde above.

seeing your movie makes me realise how much I don't know about this game. I'm sitting here, reading straight off the SMW tricks page (which sucks BTW), and then I watch your movie. There's nothing on that page about half the tricks you did. obviously I'm a noob at this, so can you please explain, uh, pretty much everything from when you re grab the shell in mid air. (that's the only trick I found an explanation of) Also, the height you would need to get the key would be phenomenal. You have to release the shell I would estimate at least two screens beforehand, so you would need (another estimation) to be about a screen and a half above, which could only be realistically accomplished if you re-ascend from the highest platform.

left + right while facing right and flying allows you to pull up (swoop i guess) while changing your horizontal speed. left + right while facing left and flying puts you into a dive without changing your horizontal speed. when you jump with your p meter full, and then release y/x and b so you start falling back down again without being in flight animation, there is a point where if you press y/x again you gain lots of air like from a dive. at other times you will do a normal swoop, and the rest you will just continue down. fast diving is caused by pressing the diving direction (either left or left+right while facing left (the advantage of left+right being that your horizontal speed does not change), or right while facing right.) on every other frame for at least 3 times (not sure that's enough). originally it was done 5 times to get speed back up to 51, but since we don't have to lose speed while diving left, and we can gain speed while swooping facing right, 5 diving frames are no longer needed, you can go with the minimum to get diving animation whatever that is (3?). sometimes when gaining super air you can press y/x and gain super air again. i have no idea how this works. i think mister has explained it before, but i don't get it. from the first videos: if you are spinning when you want to swoop, you must always press the direction mario is not facing (in normal flight if you are going right, to swoop you press left). since you are spinning his direction changes every 4 frames, so you might end up pressing both left and right (not at the same time) to get a swoop. i think, but am not at all sure, that at whatever frame it is the game decides mario should start swooping you have to be facing the direction you are moving. (not in the video): right after (or during) swooping, there are frames where you can release y/x and still keep flying if you repress it again soon after (say 1 frame). this is useful for kicking things and maintaining flight. there is also a time near the top of a swoop where he changes from going up to going down that you can release y/x (i think?). and yeah, thinking about it some more i'd be pretty surprised if there were more than 3ish frames to save from lahdeedah by getting perfect placement before kicking.

Okay, kinda pointless now, but I got Marble Zone and Volcano Castle done. Hyperlinked to avoid page stretching

you can fly over the top of the purple structure in marble zone, and then break the yellow blocks. This would be a major timesaver.

Okay; do you still want to redo Green Hill Zone? If you do, I'll wait until you've got that done.

Sadly, the latest run desynced for ,e when you were about to enter the the door at Lakeside Castle. Still, having played through this hack myself by now (with 70/117 exits...), I'm looking forward to this. /Nevermind on the desync issue, I needed to run it with up+down/left+right.

No big deal. I'll get some levels accomplished and have them stick at some point. I'll get to Spring Yard Zone and Acoustic Castle on Monday or something; visiting family for the 4th of July.

Actually, there is a way to fly through VC, so I'm redoing, or you could redo.

If you could handle it, that'd be nice.

Sorry to say, but I got bored just watching the Test Run. I guess I'm tired of all of the Super Mario World Speed Runs since they all pretty much use the same Cape strategy through most of the game. Just once, I'd like to see a speed run that uses the Fire Flower through most of the run. Except where the cape is absolutely needed. Ah well.

Watch the small only run of SMW then. Fire flower only is a very arbitary category. The cape is the fastest method of travel, that's the reason that everyone uses it. Also, I must admit, test runs in general are not very entertaining.

cape is not the fastest you can also get 64 speed when bumped by the clown copter. you can not jump with 64 speed, have to drop to 63. you can get 52 speed in a cloud. but yes, in general cape is fastest and that's why we use it. if you want no cape definitely watch smw small run :3

I have decided to refrain from taking any further part in the production of this TAS. The reason being that I am completely and utterly under qualified to TAS this game and the results that I do produce are of unacceptable standards. To TAS this game at as high a standard as current published movies and WIPs requires far greater knowledge and skill than I currently posses. Sorry, Solon, for letting you down.

Don't feel too bad about it; I felt the same way after briefly working on a Megaman X 100% TAS. I don't think you should count yourself out; you've been one-upping me every step of the way (though the margin has been getting slimmer lately), and that's got to mean something. If you really are gonna step out, could you at least tell me the method you found for flying through Volcano Castle? I have no idea how you'd do it.

Okay, I lied, The trick was discovered by NxCy, but I didn't want to disclose that since he contacted me privately. The truth is, I wasn't successfully able to do the trick. But since I'm not working on it anymore, I guess I have to pass this information onto you. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1035915609/castle3.smv Apparently it's also possible to achieve running speed by the first moving block without having to turn around. I have not been able to accomplish this and have deemed it impossible without wasting more time than it saves. You can max out your p meter, but cannot jump with a full P meter. You would have to wait for the razor to be in a more favorable position. The following is an improvement of 10 frames on my last give WIP of marble zone http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/838080661/Copy%20%284%29%20of%20solon%2C%20mister%2C%20andymac-TSRPR-WIP%20%28up%20to%20VC%29.smv

at mole ruin 2 you used 6/5 and i think the purpose of it was to get through... the part where you stopped using it right after. i did that at 49 speed; 6/5 isn't needed. ~d

As for the first moving block thing, something like this works. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/488286617/castle3.smv Getting to run on the ledge before the first moving block would be great, but I wasn't able to do it.
