mmm... If it's possible for me to heal Ganer (on my side), then I can give it a try. Otherwise, I will kill him instantly

Eh, so you're not going for the best ending this time?

I think he means that unless he can heal Ganer externally, then even damaging him partially to improve takedown speed of the guardeyes is a bad idea, as at least one of them drains his HP iirc.

I somehow wonder what made you look that far back in the run, but after seeing you saving so many frames like this so many times, I guess I won't ask, and just envoy it :) Good work!!

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1179738891/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv although there is no change in the number of frames, this run is better; battles with dragons are shorter

I was playing through a retranslation of BoF2, and it gave me an idea. The spirit monsters in SimaFort's basement can drop WiseBLs! Maybe you could grab one or two on your way through. Well they're not the easiest to kill at low levels (Chopchop could kill one) but it's an example.

You mean Poltrgst? Their chance to drop WiseBL is pretty minuscule, I think you just got lucky, sad to say. The Arachnods also drop them and have a higher drop rate, but due to how rare drops work, the odds are still 1/256. The creature with the best drop chance for WiseBL (~1/80) is the Jacky in Memory, but IIRC janus tried that already and it turned out to be too hard to manipulate. Realistically, the time spent fighting a battle is likely to be more than would be saved by getting a WiseBL, and there are enough for the Barubary battle, the only place where it makes a great difference. I guess manipulating a WiseBL could still be faster than picking up one of the available ones. Also that retranslation is horribly, horribly bad and nobody should try it if they hope to enjoy themselves :(

you are free to try it ;) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/783076657/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv since I don't need shopping, I saved another 320 frames

Aw... I take it you're not a fan of Woolseyisms? =/ And dang it, I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. I think I'd be way too much of a perfectionist to accept anything I tried TAS-wise... like trying to draw frickin' eyes on a painting.

I like Woolsey, but this isn't Woolsey. This is like a Woosley with no comic timing and a mean sense of humour who likes the sound of their own words too much. Nearly every single line of text drags like an angry cat over hot coals. And personality? What personality? :( I know, rant rant rant rant. This is one of my favourite games though, and I was hoping the retranslation might at least be not-horrible, especially after playing the Mother 3 one. /offtopic

Hey now, I think Ryusui's translation was well done. BoF2's original translation was hilariously bad, but not good hilarious like Symphony of the Night! Maybe we should take this to off-topic or private messages, because I think normally I'd share your views, if you thought it was too literal of a translation. Mother 3... now that's about the best fan translation you're gonna get, along with the recently completed Policenauts. Both of those had people who have jobs in the gaming or professional anime translation industries working on them! In fact, I'd say those are at the level of what a professional translation would have been. To the task at hand... keep going Janus, you're doing great! I can't wait to see some of the later fights! (EDIT) ...bah, I can't think of any in particular except Barubary. And he's not that tough normally.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1024322553/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv despite all my best efforts, i was only able to keep about 400 frames less than the original run. I hate fighting fat...

Which is quite a lot of work!! :) 400 frames less still makes a shorter movie, so it's all good to me! Keep up the good work!

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/71603877/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv now 1100 frames ahead after Evrai. there doesn't seem to be a way to heal enemies...

http://rapidshare.com/files/288348823/Breath_of_Fire_II__U_.smv.html take 4. I don't think I can improve it anymore... This should be my final submission. Of course, I might give it a shot at katt and the riot staff... later

Does healing Ryu in the final battle really make any difference if you're just going to dodge everything? He can't die from WFruit usage. I guess if you want to test Katt it's a bunch simpler to start with the RiotST, but I think it can only save 2 G Dragons at most, compared to the MeowST which can save 3.

WFruit 200 CG //: one ally gains 20 AP and loses 20 HP, to a limit of rHP = 1 item Well so much for that then. I checked and he can't die from WFruit OUTSIDE of battle, so I assumed it was right -_-; In that case, yeah, the only real thing I can think of now is testing Katt.

I don't know D: The way of the TAS seems to be "try everything" but I think it's good enough for submission in its current form. It's certainly more optimised than other RPG runs in the past have been.

Congrats on finishing the run. I think the result is terrific. Unfortunately 5 hours is super long, almost an hour longer than the FFVI run. Whether it gets published or not, the effort put in to complete it was excellent.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1626215643/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv although the guard eye fight was longer, I was still able to squeeze 130 more frames. the skycave glitch worked, and the necroman fight was shorter. i will try getting the meow staff
