That's NOT death abuse. He's already got Astro Crush, meaning he's already killed Frost Man. Whenever you revisit a boss, they're not there.

If you had read the associated post in which that link originated, it suggested that it should be possible to do with the megaball alone, thus not needing astro crush (and it is). Going back to that stage with astro crush for that purpose alone seems nothing but wasteful.

In my opinion, people should really stop calling the abuse in Frost Man for a "glitch". Its called a mere checkpoint. Depending on where you die, it obviously places you at the start or end of the snowboarding section. Anyway, I did a test of the check point abuse and my wip clearly beats it. I touched the second gate at frame 32913 while the checkpoint abuse version reached it at frame 33036. Edit: The first snowboarding section doesnt even have a checkpoint abuse. Continuing with Clow Man.

Clown Man dead http://www.mediafire.com/?i2i5uzjzjcm Don't worry about why I didn't fire earlier at him during different occasions. I made sure my projectiles connected earliest as possible. The battle is pretty much flawless. Speaking of the fight, I honestly feel shitty killing him because the guy keeps saying ouch!, mommy!.. Oh Capcom, why :( Sword Man coming next.

Duo done http://www.mediafire.com/?zfkmxr5emmg I managed to make him never do his ball attack. He has 15hp, I tested every weapon against him and all of them do only 1hp attack except a fully charged shot which does 2. I bought Hyper Dash and I'll begin working on Sword Man tomorrow.

Looking good, but couldn't you shoot special weapons while you charge your buster in the Duo fight?? If buster indeed takes 120 frames to charge, you could have 3dmg/120 frames vs. the current 2dmg/120 frames. Was there a reason this wouldn't work? There shouldn't be. I'm a bit surprised all special weapons suck against Duo, though.

It's the same reason as it is in the X series: firing a special weapon resets the charge to 0.

I was so certain this wasn't the case in MM8. My memory is playing tricks on me again. Argh! Then how about using a Flash Bomb to do that one damage, since it lingers and therefore you can shoot it earlier than a single buster shot? (Ie., shoot it immediately after launching the charge shot and start recharging.)

That relies on duo not moving (much) to do, however, it's a damn good idea.

That reminds me, with enough distance it could probably be done with the ice weapon, too (assuming it damages Duo while it's crawling on the floor). The advantage with that weapon is that it's a delayed weapon, but it still moves so it wouldn't do another hit afterwards (like Flash Bomb might). I'm not sure if theres enough room to do that properly, though, and the charged shot would take some extra time to hit. It could work if Duo was jumping away from you.

Redid duo (thanks Cremator), saved time and I just finished Sword Man http://www.mediafire.com/?nnnwujumdxo I am torn how I should deal with him. Fully charged shot does 3hp damage, ice beam does 2hp and the rest do 1hp damage. Obviously the fight isnt fully optimized (though I am very satisfied with the stage), especially the final shot. Any suggestions how I should handle Sword Man? Is that current strategy sufficient? I hate testing which method is the fastest when it involves charging your beam :(

Just want to say thanks to the encoder. I really don't feel like downloading the emulator just for this one game, so it's nice to be able to youtube it. And of course thanks to the player as well, without whom there'd be no encode to encode.

Wouldn't the final shot be faster if he did flame sword instead of body strike? Could it not be done? Also it seemed you had to allow that because letting him do that fire tornado move would've killed you. Maybe you need to let him do more fire swords so you can allow one more fire tornado at the very end? Other than that, I'm not sure how the strategy could improved. That one seemed to work quite well. Is that one hit with the buster+ice crawler intended to happen?

I came to the conclusion (thanks to Kirk, arukado and Ilari) that the strategy for Sword Man boils down to this: Begin the fight with one fully charged shot, which inflicts 3hp damage, the rest with ice = 2hp damage except for the final shot, which will be a single regular shot. Too bad you cannot damage him when he does his sword attack animation. Edit: I gotta redo the fight once again (I had one almost finished) due to being short of ice hp :(

Downloading the emulator isn't really the problem: It's the game, which is more than 500MB.

Just a little update. I am currently on Sword Man's stage, the 7th Robot Master. Route: Grenade, Frost, Tengu, Clown, Astro, Aqua, Sword, Search Compared to AngerFist's WIP, I saved at least 20 seconds through Duo, and over 10 seconds on the first area of Sword Man's stage.

That seems like a weird order. I always thought having Search Missiles for Astro (and bustering Sword Man) was better then that route. Interesting...

I'm not using H. Speed Charge (or Energy Saver), only Hyper Slider. Astro Man's weakness only does 3, compared to Sword Man's 4. I alternate Buster and Flash Bomb (which does 2) on Astro Man.

I registered solely to tell you how much I'm enjoying the Mega Man 8 TAS thus far. Something about this game to me... all the music just kind of triggers memories, even though I didn't even play it that much. I can't wait to see this in full! :)

It always bugged me how slow this game was compared to MM1-7, and how many great tricks there were to speed it up, if only you had superhuman reflexes. This is one of the best candidates for a TAS, because it's exciting to see all these really difficult shortcuts performed with ease. Keep at it, guys, it's great fun so far :)

Wow! That was totally awesome man :) I knew sooner or later Parrot14green would find a way to zip through the walls. Naturally, this raises the question if there are any other areas it's applicable.

I think it's more entertaining to watch the player play through the game normally in a TAS. Glitches are cool and all, and while they complete the game as fast as possible it tends to lose its charm quickly. :(
