Ok. I have begun making this one. Any tips or hints are appreciated. The first try is not perfect. But this is my very first speed run test. I play though Home sweet home in just some minutes. Looks kinda good. Just some minor things I need to fix.

I'd started a run at this game in the middle summer. But I got stuck at the "Reaper". Lvl 5 or something. I have to think out a faster way to kill him. I could give you some advice here and there, weapons, powerup and so on. But the best advice or the best thing that I think would be the best is if you watch my version and try bring up some new and maybe fresh ideas how to make it faster. To view this movie correcly I recommend the "Ghostbusters (JUE) (REV 01) [!]" ROM. http://frenom.areta.org/smv/ghostbusters-frenom.zip GL mate :)
Wheeeehaaa.. Yaaayy..

Ok. I have watched the run now. Some parts could be more effective. Such as the use of more bombs in some places. Buy more of em'. Could allso buy a peking duck to use in the wood house to save some more time since you take quite some damage. Only if needed though. I haven't checked this much my self. Furthermore.. The snowman boss can be beaten quicker if you don't jump as much I think. Just walk around on the floor and aim high. Use bombs to clear the room a bit if there are too many smaller snowmans shooting carrots at you. Will the fireweapon really beat the face in the wood house faster than boubles, or maby using the regular weapon will be faster? In the castle where those possessed Ghost busters are, I think you can only hit them from behind. How ever the fire weapon should be dealing good damage to them. Allso those gigant plants you spend alot of time killing instead of takeing damage and walk straight thru them. For the reaper I don't know.. I think I have allways used the regular weapon on him. If I remember correctly it's possible to destroy his sickles. Oh.. And at the first boss you can crawl on the ground and avoid those scale sickles instead of jumping and shooting at them. If it becomes too much, use a bomb to clear the room a bit. Other than that it's a pretty good run. I think you should finnish it.

this is a pretty good and TASable game, so I started a run of this last thursday (seriously) and finished it yesterday: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1807334506/Ghostbusters%20(W)%20(REV%2000).gmv (for some reason, i can't make a proper link so you'll have to highlight, copy and paste the link) 23 min and 35s. i didn't aim for perfection, but at least i beat the reaper pretty fast. i'd like to see frenom's run, but the link is dead, so if someone has it, upload it for me.

Fixed that link for you. phpBB2 doesn't play nice with brackets, you have to replace them with %28 and %29.
Gone.

Why didn't you aim for perfection? I really like how you beat the ice robot though. Didn't know the 3-way shooter was so good against it. I'd love to see you make a second attempt with perfection. Also make sure to grab some ram-addresses. Keep us posted. Cheers. :) Edit: Forgot to give creds about last boss. Nice strategy. Edit 2: Oh, and I also submitted a run of this game back in 2005. Damn sloppy compared to yours though. :) http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2893

it would take so much time and work, and i'm not interested enough. i'm sure i didn't use the optimal strategy either. for example, i probably lost time by doing the death warp on the fire level.

in some parts, your run is better than mine, and you showed some things that i didn't know, but you lost a lot of the time on the plant boss. it would be useful to have a RAM address there to see how much damage you do.

I'm currently making a completely new run on this game. Does anyone have a better route in mind regarding the previous attempts? Ram addresses for enemy health would come handy as well since I'm new to ram search and it seems pretty hard. I've gotten some of them up but if someone has a saved list or knows some general rules for the addresses, please enlighten me. :)

I hope this TAS gets finished. This is like, the only good Ghostbusters game on older consoles, aside from maybe the one for C64.

Yeah. I'm currently making one but it will take some time to optimize. It's a bit of a shame that there are a couple of bosses that are way too powerful and make the TAS look very boring at times. I'll try to make those parts as interesting as possible since I hope we get a published TAS of this game out someday.

Sorry for late reply. I've been working on this for a long time now. I'm up to the last level, currently fighting the snow man. I reach the encounter sign at 47312 frames. The time is quite good. I can't really find any place where I can optimize right now. I have found MANY glitches and shortcuts. I do intend to release the final product soon.

Well, I look forward to seeing the finished product. Aside from the PC and C64 versions, this is among the best of the series. And yes, I do say the C64 version. It's like the NES and Atari port, but it's a lot better. I watched a Long Play for it and was quite entertained.

Great! Can't wait to see what you've found.

Ummm... Would you mind sharing the WIP movie? I'd love to see where I'm getting that much behind your framecount. :D I'm doing my first full TAS on this game at the moment so it's pretty obvious I haven't discovered any major glitches.

Until we get to see the obviously huge improvements from Highness, I can share my WIP on this game. I decided to stall the run since it's obvious that Highness has found some major shortcuts, so this movie serves mainly as a basic demonstration and as my first true test of making a TAS. Nothing special can be found in my run apart some of the boss fights (especially the first mini boss at High Rise Building). I hope to see the new stuff soon. So, here's the movie: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/237141256/Ghostbusters%20%28W%29%20%28REV%2000%29%20-%20hotsam%27s%20test%20run.gmv

looks good, much more optimized than mine... except a few boss fights seem like they were slower (the fire face boss and the boss before the snowman boss). and for the entertainment value, i would put on the light thing on the dark wooden house level, because it only takes like a half second. highness, i look forward to seeing your insane run on the workbench soon :P

Yeah, thanks for checking it out. I couldn't afford the phaser cells at woody house and I also missed the 3-way shot at the apartment since I bought a peking duck to get past the woody house's flame walls without dying. That ended up being a very bad choice because, for example, the woody house's stage boss has 90 HP and phaser cells do at least 16 damage per turn (4 damage per shot) where normal shot does max 10 damage per turn (1 damage per shot). I think all of this will be trivial once we get to see the work of Highness though. :D

I'm glad to see that this game catch attention once again. Makes me happy. I don't understand why this game has been put aside so much before? It is one of the best titles for the Mega Drive / Genesis ever. :D Anyway. I'm not sure if I want to show you a WIP right now.... Isn't it better to wait for the final product? I promise it won't be much longer now. Just to keep you on the hook I want to share some numbers with you. I only give you the examples to match hotsam's. I might as well share them all, but it's more fun to release little by little. ;) I include the places where I tend to measure stuff, along with the frame number. I think I saw some stuff where I maybe could improve as well. But a run is always due to changes. Enjoy these numbers meanwhile. Sorry for the formatting. Don't have much time to fiddle with it right now. I've been wondering the same thing. This game definitely deserves a place among the good (or at least playable) Genesis games. And worry not, I have the patience to wait and I understand complete that you want to keep the project unseen until it's finished. That makes me even more excited about the upcoming tricks because I hope the run can be improved even further once you reveal the new glitches and shortcuts. Until that, I'll try to find the shortcuts you've found before entering the High Rise Building.

It would be so much awesomeness if someone could write a lua-script to manipulate the snowman so that we can see it's movement before it happens. I have yet to figure out its patterns etc, and beleive me, this boss is the worst bitch in the game so far. I saw something similar in a lua script for super mario bros, where someone had made bot that played all by it self. The script was drawing lines of potential ways depending on movement etc. Can someone please make a bot for this boss? =)

how's it going, highness? are you still in the snowman boss? it doesn't have to be so perfect, just do it and submit it :P
