Its been a while since I've played this game (maybe 3 months). But I still remember that there were two words that described this game: deceptively challenging. I think this can be a good game to TAS. A TAS managing the top screen's fighting and platforming, and bottom screen's puzzles can be an entertaining run I'm pretty sure that stylus can be used for the puzzle world (saving a lot of time in eliminating blocks). However, I'm on the fence about whether to do the normal mode or gentleman mode (hard mode). Gentleman mode is more difficult of course but you start with all your techniques and (if memory serves me correctly) the bought power-ups. Naturally, I would be picking latter, but this mode has to be unlocked (and I don't know how much longer into the future until DeSmume can start a movie from a savestate) What does everyone think about this game?

Is it possible to unlock the mode first, then record from Sram?

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I overlooked this. After all this time, I missed that feature. But a question still remains about starting this particular TAS from SRAM. Should I unlock and buy everything before starting Gentleman mode, or should I just beat Normal without buying anything (thus adding some strategy to how I spend the time buying while in Gentleman mode).

I decided to give this a go myself (I think Gentleman Mode would count as a newgame+ category because you start off with everything in your inventory). My 2m15s WIP of the first level is here (encode coming soon courtesy of sgrunt)

This is sort of a playaround, with me trying to see if I can use the two screens in tandem to really stretch the length of combos. The puzzle tutorial is optimal, the part of 1-1 that I do is....not :P

Are there any addresses you are using to help you make this run? They look pretty good so far. Maybe I can help in the future :D.

I finished 1-1. I really really really hate this level, it's so boring to TAS. I chose to get as much money as possible from the final flunky fight instead of using Tea Time. I really need help trying to arrange all this :(

Really looking forward to this. Just wondering, wouldn't it be faster to just take the hit with the knights as opposed to juggling them? Also, is it possible to manipulate the treasure chest at the end to give you as little money as possible?

Thanks for the youtube, Antoids! If that was dull, I can't wait to see more.

Not that I could offer any useful assistance on a system I can't emulate, but care to elaborate?

I redid 1-1, and 1-2 is complete. I ended 1-2 with 981 cash, and bought Projectile Pro 1 (so I can do more damage on the move) and Specialist (to get rid of bosses faster, but I plan to use Tea Time on all of them) I figured out that it is much easier to get Special Metre energy by spending a few seconds in the puzzle screen, rather than going out of my way to kill enemies. So for the entirety of this run I will be skipping any encounters that I can and finishing off all the bosses with Tea Time.

No problem. Here, have another. I'm really loving this TAS, theenglishman. I'll keep uploading WIPs for you, glad I decided to do this one. At least, until they exceed what I can find a way to upload.

I'm giving up on this. Not (just) because I'm a habitual quitter when it comes to TASing, but also because I just simply can't stand this game from a speed perspective. It just isn't fun anymore to do this run, there are so many goddamn unescapable ambushes and combat absolutely sucks when it comes to speed. It's just getting too ridiculous. This is the kind of game where I'd like to WATCH a run of it, but I've learned the hard way that it's not all that fun to make. Here's where I gave up. At least I managed to complete 1-3. I would love to see somebody else pick up this run and improve it/finish it, but I just can't deal with this game anymore.

Damn, that's awful to hear. I'd love to pick the run up, but I have absolutely no previous TASing experience, so it'll likely look sloppy and unoptimized.

I'll pick it up when I'm finished Castle of Dragon. Do you have any RAM adresses?

I'll also try and help as well. There were some spots where I think can be improved. I have a few RAM addresses, but I'm not sure if they correctly represent the values I'm looking for at the moment. I'll post them later on when I test the addresses. @theenglishman : what version of desmume are you using? and what configurations?

Good show! I do think it should be planned in advance though what upgrades the run will get (including possibly secret levels, but that'd likely take too long in an already very long game) and where and how the required money should be obtained.

Is it possible to control your character while he runs left and right to grab the jewels at the end? Because I wasn't sure if the route for it was optimal.

It is. I still wonder how it is possible to manipulate those treasure chests.

Yep. I am almost certain that certain actions influence how much treasure comes from the end-of-the-level treasure chest. Less treasure would mean less money for powerups but a faster finish of the level. I'm not sure if the treasure planning was optimal or not, but he did collect the available treasure quite quickly.

Hey, on a somewhat related note, since today, the emulator gives me an error message when trying to load or save a state. I can still load/save a state from/to a file, but the hotkeys give me an error message. Anybody knows what causes/how to fix this? /edit: never mind, redownloading the emulator fixed this
