Search turned up nothing, so I thought I'd make a new topic. As far as I could find, there's never been a release for this game outside of Europe, but ah well. It does mean however, that the default language is French, and I'm in doubt as to whether I should change it to English. This takes approximately 300 frames (it's simply pressing down and start when it asks for the language, but it's a long animation) but the only text you see in the game is in between levels, and that's skipped as quickly as possible. Also, should I switch to hard difficulty? I have, so far, noticed no differences between medium and hard... Anyway, if anybody knows anything about this game, is working on their own run or just wants to see this done, I'd like to hear about it.

Ah! Spirou! The classic comic-book character! The Snes fan that I am, I advocate work - and subsequent publication of - runs of every Snes game. I'll admit, though, that this is one of the few games I don't own so I know relatively little about it. I still support you wholeheartedly though! Keep us posted!

Here's the first level: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1020808200/spirou_01_4881.smv There is a small chance the "electric rope" can be done a few frames faster, so I've got to test that. Anyway, enjoy and please comment.

That options menu is indecipherable when navigated at TAS speeds. I assume this is the hardest difficulty? I hope the action picks up... Since there's not many hazards just now, maybe you could jump either at the first possible frame or the last possible frame, just to make it look a tad more exciting? Though if this is just a 'training' level such things may not be absolutely necessary, I always appreciate touches like that.

Frankly, the hitboxes are so incredibly odd that each jump you see IS done at either the first or last frame possible. Also, jumping is quite a bit slower than walking (about 25%) so I refrain from jumping as much as possible.

Oh, boo. Sorry to hear that. I definitely wasn't wanting more jumps - just assumed that when you jump over the two dogs you could cut it finer. Shame to hear you can't.

There's also the issue that pressing B for a single frame already results in a pretty high jump, making it look like I jump more than necessary. Now I'm at the first balloon-bit of the Toy Store*, which means there's about ten seconds of waiting I have to make entertaining. The one thing I hate about TASing... Ah well, I still did the first part of the Toy Store as fast as possible, because so far it seems everything is triggered by the camera's position, so probably the walking of the clown too (and you want it to start as soon as possible). *) For those of you not familiar with the game: the "balloon bit" consists of a wall too high to jump over. There's a clown walking around in front of it that releases balloons you can hang onto. You can use these to get over the wall, but the clown walks awfully slow, so it takes quite a while before a balloon gets close enough to the wall to jump on it. Also, balloons go up slower if you hang from them... Pretty darn hard to make entertaining and fast.

I am wondering if this game will have a large enough audience to be published. Frankly, I think the game is awfully dull and slow. Hearing that description of "the balloon bit" sends shivers down my spine. Unless there are some glitches to be found, I would probably vote no after viewing the first youtube WIP. Wanted to get my criticism out there so you could weigh the cons with the pros. I wish you luck on completing your first TAS. ;)

Heh, not my first TAS (Myst DS didnt get published though). And yeah, the first levels are quite boring, but later levels present much more of a challenge, so this might just make an interesting run. So far I haven't been able to find any glitches and considering it's a run'n'jump platformer it's not very likely I'll find any.

Sorry for the double post, but it's been a while and I re-did the first level, saving 68 frames: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1955809745/spirou_01_4813.smv Also, I teamed up with a friend of mine to tackle this game, and we've found a way to skip the balloon-bit I mentioned earlier (by going to the bonus level and dieing) but unfortunately there's another balloon-bit after it. Although we can probably (and hopefully) get around that one too.
