Submission Text Full Submission Page
First of all, I want to apologize for using the monotone Gameboy-mode for this run. I didn't realize this game supported Super gameboy until I finished it. Since hex-editing doesn't help in this case and I don't plan to redo it I'm still submitting it.
This run beats nitrogenesis' submitted & canceled run by 1 minute and 34 seconds.

Objectives

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes no damage
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Genre: Platform
Used emulator: VisualBoyAdvance v21

Level 1

I'm getting the flying squirrel-suit and skip a large part of the level. This skip seems to be intentional by the programmers as there was a 1-up, though it would be impossible to get there without autofiring A at 15 Hz (every 5th frame).
Walking is faster than jumping, so I only jump when necessary. As a flying squirrel, you can shoot two shots at once. If they hit the boss simultaneously, they count as two hits. So I beat all the bosses in a lower number of "rounds".

Level 2

I skip a small part of the level by flying over the wall and towards the ladder. I apologize if all this flying removes the entertainment, but it was faster. Nothing much else to say here...

Level 3

This level is probably boring to watch due to much continuous walking going on. Lag frames can not be reduced in this game (delaying for a frame brings up only more lag frames).
At the end of this boss fight I reach the lower floor which is normally inaccessible.

Level 4

I grab palm trees for a little boost. There isn't much to say here either...
The end text can't be skipped. I end the movie at the earliest frame possible.

Possible improvements

None that I'm aware of. This run needs to be redone in SGB-mode, but I still submitted it since I won't redo it and to hear about people's opinions.

Closing words

Enjoy the run and have a nice day.

FractalFusion: This run, though passable, was unfortunately recorded in the wrong mode (GB rather than SGB), which is against the rules. As there is a significant visual difference, I will have to reject the run.
Should the movie be fixed so that it plays correctly in SGB mode (assuming no other submissions of this game has occurred), I will reverse the decision.

A kid wearing a fursuit stars in a TAS? A very weak Yes vote. Unfortunately, apart from the last boss fight (Which amused me rather nicely), most of the run was a bit slow, but was very optimized.

http://www.archive.org/details/crayonshinchan4-tas-mugg (probably not usable for publication, but good enough for watching and voting) Yes vote, this looks good enough to me.

The game itself isn't a bad choice for a TAS. It's not sonic the hedgehog, but not every game is designed to be. The TASing was quite sound, and was done in an entertaining way. It wasn't boring, and some of the tricks are getting familiar to me as TASing tactics, which suggests a good level of investigation into how to do a good speed run. Yes vote, because the game and the run are interesting enough.

I vote Yes For a good improvement of Mugg (more than the of Nitrogenesis, who the had canceled), exceeding 5658 frames. Also I have encoded this movie: Encode: http://www.archive.org/download/GbCrayonShin-chan4In0711ByMugg/crayonshinchan4-tas-mugg.mkv DailyMotion: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xd2gc8_gb-crayon-shin-chan-4-in-0710-83-by Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qn8wk9Y1ok

It is nice to see so many encoders. Thanks all ;P Will vote after watching. Edit: I can't say I was overly entertained (or entertained at all) but the technique seemed swell, and someone who has nostalgia for this game would probably enjoy it. I will go with a yes on this one. I also find it hilarious you rescued 2 black folk from all those crazy ass white people.

I'm sorry Irdoh and GGG, but I've made a super-optimized encode. 100% lossless video and much higher quality audio. You cannot beat this very easily, unless you want to make the audio sound worse or risk player compatibility. I encourage future encoders to use the script contained (adjusting the crf value where necessary). Click here to download MKV muxed awesomeness. Torrent to publish, complete with HTTP seeding, the length of the video is 10:02.

It's a pity the dude can't run, it would probably have made a very positive difference in entertainment value. Nonetheless, I think someone who has played through the game would appreciate this run, and (at least to me) it certainly appears optimized, so I vote yes.
Oh, play it cool. Play it cool. Here come the space cops.

The pace of this TAS is a bit too slow but it was quite entertaining anyway. The route through the levels seemed well planned and everything looked nicely executed. Weak yes. (Blame the games' speed for the weakness in the yes vote)

I'm voting no. Nothing wrong with the TASing, but I think the game is a bit too slow paced, and not enough options to show off the use of tools.
