Remember Morimoto's Gradius speed-dancing session? =P Well, here's a similar treat for all y'all. Found this lil' gem flagrantly parading around on the front page of High Level Challenge, in the news post for June 7th. There's a link to a VirtuaNES 0.92 recording of some guy completing the entire first loop of Gradius without scoring a single point. o_O He fires a few shots to get through the weak walls in levels 2 and 6, and dies once in level 7 due to an unavoidable collision with the 4 red cannons in the narrow hallway, but other than that, this is a totally nonviolent Gradius run...o_O And with only 226 rerecords. It's a beautiful thing to behold. :) I've recently been thinking of doing runs for Salamander/Life Force and Gradius 2, similar to Morimoto's speed-only run and this nonviolent run. Guess I'd better hurry up and do 'em before the Japanese beat me to the punch...(^^')

I stumbled upon this site months before I even heard of this one. It's nice to see that it's still being updated.

hmmmmmmm i'm all for these special types of runs, but i do still think that the runs should not contain deaths... now i dont know this game, and i dont know whether its absolutely unavoidable unless it is done this way to avoid points, and if so.... well i dont know, but otherwise no deaths period.

I was thinking of time attacking this game. There are certain levels that you can warp from, and i believe that if you do it correctly, you can skip 3 stages. When i attempt this, im going to try to show off as much as possible like morimoto, except i will be using other upgrades. mainly: Speed x ? Lader Option x2 Shield Missle This is becuase, for a few of the warps, you must kill the end-level ship in less that 5 seconds. any thoughts on this before i give it a go?

What was that for? krieg737 already knows about morimoto's movie. This topic is for a different kind of run.

I believe you can only use the warp once, and not on the last 3 levels. There's something in my memory about Morimoto warping past stage 4, but I may be wrong about that... -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

Yeah, he warped past stage 4, which is just stage 1 upside down. And I too don't believe there are more warps than that...

Actually, it seems each warp has different conditions. For example, to warp from 3 to 5, you have to destroy a bunch of the Moai heads (10? Don't remember the exact number). I haven't been able to find out what triggers the other warps, but I believe there may indeed be a warp for each level...

If I recall correct you can warp from stage 1 to maybe stage 3 by killing ALL enemies in stage 1. Of course you don't need to shot down all the stones that the volcano spits out but all regular enemies must be killed. This would save some time in a time attack.

Shiner did that in a speedrun and didn't warp at all...I'll watch the video now to make sure he didn't miss any. *2-3 minutes pass by* Yeah, he didn't miss any and moved on to stage 2.

In theory, i would only have to play levels 1, 3, 5, 7,....basically skipping half the game, if i did it properly.
Level warps Accomplish the following tasks to warp to a new level. In level 1, when the thousands digit of your score is even, destroy 4 hatches (wtf is a hatch?) Warp to level 3 after defeating Core Fighter Destroy Xaerous Core at end of level 2 within 2 seconds of its core turning blue Warp to level 4 Destroy 10 stone heads in level 3 Warp to level 5 after beating level Level Skip Destroy the ship (the one at the end of each lvl) in 5 seconds and you'll obtain a warp to the level ahead of it.

Hmm. I'm so sure that I have warped from stage 1 to stage 3. Maybe there was something else then. Unfortunately I have no idea of what that could be.

I think they're boring to watch. Wouldn't it be much more interesting with a playaround movie without any speedups at all?

I started on a no-kill run for Gradius III. But I quickly gave up because it was much too difficult (and I think it may simply be impossible.)

If you would have read my entire message, you should have seen that I suggested playing the game without any speedups.

That's even more boring. Only interesting really for a level.

In Gradius III some bosses die automagically without your having to fire a shot, perhaps all bosses. I never got past the second level without killing anything.
