It's been awhile since I've posted here, but I've been thinking about a new type of run. Specifically, one that prioritizes finishing the game with the fewest button presses possible. Of course, buttons that are held down across multiple frames in an unbroken sequence count as a single button press. Speed would be the second priority, provided it doesn't interfere with the first priority. The reason I like this idea is because it could potentially satisfy viewers who are turned off by runs that become nearly unviewable with glitches. Also, I'm thinking it would be funny to see really hard games played with as little effort as possible.

Nice idea, though I'd imagine it will only work for certain types of games. It would be funny to see Mario coasting through an entire level, but not so entertaining to watch a shmup that consists of just moving one pixel left or right when you're gonna get hit. Also, when I saw the thread title, the idea that came to mind was a TAS that made the player seem like he just didn't give a damn about anything, takes clumsy risks rather than skillful ones, yet still beats the game. As funny as that seems.

I make a comic with no image files and you should read it. While there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free. -Eugene Debs

In Mega Man X5 and X6 there's an input buffer glitch that allows the game to constantly accept predeterminable input while just holding left+right. Using this it's possible to go through a good chunk of a level doing nothing but spending 2 frames pressing buttons and then just holding left+right. I'll upload an example pxm later. EDIT: Here it is, this beats the first part of Grizzly Slash's stage in X5 with Zero with all weapons pressing only six buttons.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Wow, I didn't think this idea already existed. I probably would have posted there if I saw it.
