Wow! I didn't know you could avoid fights in Narshe. Also like how you fire a tek missile backwards. :) Why not run with Vicks and Wedge in the last battle before the cave in Narshe? Strange Whelk strategy. But it seems to work. :) Good fight with the moogles. Eager to see the upcoming parts. :)

You restarted from beginning? I'm amazed, but also happy of the quality. I didn't spot anything "strange" at Whelk though...

And that was weird... how? I tihnk it was just common sense to use the missiles since they make the most damage.

If Vicks or Wedge had done ANYTHING, it would have queued up an animation and therefore postponed Whelk's hiding in the shell. No attack they could do would make the fight faster.

Yeah. I realize that as well. Just that when I played the game I always used all characters. I never figured those things out that it was better to idle with some characters. :)

I encoded it to AVI (XviD two-pass + LAME MP3). Just for those FEW PEOPLE (if any here) who are too lazy to look at the movie file. I mainly made it for other people who don't have Snes9x or the 1.0 ROM, but go ahead if you want to download it. I'll encode every update. :)

Does the Whelk battle give you experiance? If so you probably could kill off Vicks and Wedge for triple experience on Terra.

No boss battles give experience points in this particular game.

Maybe, as a little trailer of what's to come, you could show us some demo files of you glitching the game up and using the glitches for your own good, like you said you were going to later in the game? :)

I may be recalling incorrectly. But doesn't this game not have credits at the end? If it doesn't would you mind too terribly leaving the ones at the beginning in. I don't think anyone would care too much about the time it takes when downloading this video. And all the rest of the avis on this site have the credits included. Plus I like the song. =P

There's credits at the end. They show as the airship flies over landforms not normally present during the game.

yeah... i think the song on the OSTs like 20+ minutes and its FILLED with crap (i remember well because my PSX crapped out during these credits and i had to redo that final "battle") from all the characters lives (which might not be so bad if you do a minimal party thing). oh, this looks very nice BTW. i know i dont post much in RPG threads, but i cant wait for em!

Heh.. I was about to ask for a 100% run, when it came to mind how large this game is and how many items etc there are. However a run with all characters would be nice as well to get the full ending. :) That would be for another run of course.

I might sound a little dumb, but I can't figure out why he always uses an echo screen right before playing slots with Setzer ... I noticed that in part 5 of the speed run. Any idea?

It means he always gets the best spell from the slot machine. It's rigged, to your disadvantage mostly, but not if you know how it works. There was a link some posts back with technical descriptions on how to cheat it.

Some attacks like Aura Bolt and Flash are magic based.

The scary thing is that while I don't have 5 1/2 hours to spare, he said he made a LOT of mistakes. My guess is that if an FF6 video is near-perfect, the Tales of Phantasia video may remain the longest on this site.

I just finished watching the SDA run and I'm seriously impressed. There may have been a number of mistakes, but they're very tiny mistakes. Three incorrect blitz inputs throughout the run, for example. The entire thing is full of little optimisations, like organising the item list during longer battle animations for fast access to important stuff later. Vanish-Doom & Joker Doom are exploited to their fullest throughout; I especially liked seeing a Moogle Charm-equipped Mog run alone and unaccosted through the entire final dungeon, his only fight being killing his statue boss in a single X-Magic'd Vanish-Doom. I guesstimate that tool-assisted luck manipulation can take 30 minutes off the speed run at most but I suppose properly abusing the sketch glitch and other route improvements can slim that down some more.
