I was just curious how people felt about this. if you TAS a game, and spend hours on saving less than 10 frames of a game, and have completed a full TAS of it, do you still enjoy playing the game in real time on a console? thanks, i don't have much of an opinion yet because usually i TAS short challenges. but so far i believe that TASing the game can make me better at it in real time because i understand its intricacies and how it works better.

Absolutely! However, only in one type of run - a run with heavy luck manipulation. I find it very difficult to play a game where I was able to make great gains via luck manipulation. After that, I realize that any bad things that happen to me within the game are outside my control, because if I had the control... I'd have my TAS. Thus, I get frustrated with the pace, efficiency, and horrible luck, and go back to TASing. Action games, on the other hand, still require skill of finger speed. While yes, if I had TAS reflexes, I would be better, I still feel that I have some level of control of the outcome of the game, that I can improve my skill, etc.

Yes. TASing is not playing the game, and thus, I still find games fun. TASing is creating and is fun because you get to see a game pushed to it's limits. Meanwhile, playing the game in realtime is fun because you feel rewarded when you beat a hard challenge, and unlike TAS, you don't have to aim for fast as possible, so you can enjoy more of the game without flipping out into crazy glitching and skipping levels.

Creating [movie 1423]my Sonic 1 GG run[/movie] was extremely cathartic given the immense frustration that game caused me in my younger years. Therefore, it can be quite enjoyable to TAS a game you are familiar with!

No matter how many people you dispatch with one quick headshot from a sniper rifle a mile away, it won't ever compare beating a man to death with your bare hands. So I've heard.

I find that the games become much easier once you know all the technical details about them. I can pretty much beat Mega Man 4 without getting hit now. =( But ROM hacks always solve lack of difficulty problems. n_n
