Metal Gear Speed Run Attempt
Fastest time
  • Emulator used: openMSX 0.8.0
  • Fasted time
Not really a speedrun but still the fastest time recorded. I did not use all known glitches in this version.

I thought for a second this was the PSX MGS run. Then I read a little more, MSX. Still, LOVED that game. Really hard and MUCH better then the NES version. I will vote after I watch this.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

Wow! What a surprise! I didn't know you could TAS MSX games; openMSX isn't in the emulators page! Let's see if I can dump an AVI from openMSX...

That should be easy using the record command (use -doublesize). If you need help, let me know. The commands are all documented in the manuals: http://openmsx.sourceforge.net/manual/

Um... Vampier... Could you elaborate a bit more about the attempt? To me it looks unoptimized at plenty places, such as opening a door in the battle against that big tank coming at you for example, missing shots against enemies, taking detours in rooms, and just wasting plenty ammo. Is this a TAS or is it something else? I will cast my vote when I know. I was entertained, but still those questions needs answering. Thanks meanwhile.

This looks more like a realtime speedrun rather than a TAS. Obviously it is a test, so it shouldn't have been submitted imo, but on the plus side at least MSX TASing has been accepted. Still, should this be accepted? No.

This indeed is a test, although this was my first attempt on a first speed-run I've learned a lot since this one. I have not used every known glitch and could have done more to do a faster run and get hit more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDO4YOhP524 comes a whole lot closer to what I currently have in mind. However since I have taken up a very busy job I will not have time to do speedruns. If anyone feels like doing a metal gear speed run I can give hints and tips. Since I'm also part of the openMSX team I can answer questions related to emulation (don't ask me for ROMs! or BIOS-es) Just send me a message ;)

Now I know why. You are planning to try to improve, right?!
Do I look like someone who really cares what God thinks?! "GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor" - May be improved in the future.

I guess you missed this in the submission text.

Obviously it was a test to make sure that MSX run submissions work. Duh.
Taking over the world, one game at a time. Currently TASing: Nothing
