I made a TAS of the Obstacle course in Rush 2049 in 1:30.519: Link to video About 5000 rerecords, the beginning was pretty hard to get through without having to stop, I didn't think it would be possible at first, so I didn't do it, but later found out it was possible (but had to change tires to 'slick', but they didn't seem to be any slower than 'pro slick'), so I redid the beginning. I used death to get through the 5th obstacle faster. The WR on this level is 1.43.118, so it's about 13 seconds faster.

You should submit this to the site, it looks good enough to be published. I'm assuming using the built-in codes to unlock all the good equipment won't be an issue for a short movie like this. (Also, you made me realize how cool a 100% coin collection run of this game would be.)

That was cool, I didn't even know about this mode in the game. What plugins did you use to get the game to run well (including sound)? P.S. You may want to add "2049" to this topic title...

I haven't heard of this game but that course run was pretty neat. I say keep up with this.

Hmm, do you think I could submit this? I guess I could, even though it's just one course. The movie starts from a save state though... but obviously I was aiming for fastest in-game time here, so maybe it doesn't matter. I used Jabo's sound plugin for the sound, the sound doesn't work good with that when you're playing, but when you record the avi it sounds right. With the Zilmar plugin it works good when you're playing too.

Obviously you would use a cheat to get the good parts--the parts themselves unlock based on mileage, and you won't get the best engine until 2049 miles. Unlocking the obstacle course itself, though, just takes a career total of a million stunt points, so you might want to play to that the hard way and have some bonus footage in the movie. 1,000,000 points in a single session is doable unassisted by planting the front wheels on a wall and driving into that wall for several minutes to score thousands of wheelie bonuses, but if that's the way you get there then it's obviously better to just use the cheat--such a movie would be even more boring than the Earthbound glitched debug menu, and in this case it would only be for a side goal that takes several times as long as the main event. No, I'm wondering just how big you can go by running a 1-minute stunt session, speeding once or twice (if there's time) off the central ramp, and having all the lucky bounces go your way. Getting all ten icons is a x1010 boost, meaning a pre-bonus score of just 991 will get there, and it sounds to me like focusing on barrel rolls and hitting the far side in such a way that you get a huge bounce leaves enough time to get those points (as long as you can still manage to pick up all the 2-wheel floaters and a donut at the end). What do you think...worth a try?

Yeah, I was actually thinking of doing a Stunt Mode TAS too. Like 1 or 2 minutes, just for fun, without collecting icons. I'm not so familiar with this game, I never owned it... but if I understand correctly, I could have unlocked the obstacle course in 1 minute without using cheats by doing a simple 991 stunt and collecting all ten icons? That could have been a pretty cool bonus in the TAS, to make it a little longer. I wonder if a stunt mode TAS and my Obstacle course TAS could be hexedited together? Hexediting didn't seem to work so good when I tried for this game, but I also don't know much about hexediting. I submitted the Obstacle Course already btw.

FWIW I would totally watch a playaround or superplay or whatever TAS of any Rush game's grand prix. The games had so many damn shortcuts everywhere that it seems like it wouldn't be too tricky to keep each lap interesting. Though I'm not sure how open to racing playarounds the site is. *shrug*

lol, how many rush games are there :P i thought there were only two. i should have done my alkatraz TAS in rush 2 instead, it seems to have better graphics. i'll have to look into that game too some time and see if there's something interesting to TAS there.

2049's the only one I have but I expect this sort of thing would be good.

I would rather see a full TAS of the games rather than just see a single track done. That's the main reason singular track runs never get published, I believe.

From what I remember of 2049 (It's been a long while since I've plugged in the N64 and played it), if you did a race/coin TAS to unlock everything, then went with whatever car for the obstacle track, that would be an entertaining way to go about it. I'm not sure if you'd rack up enough distance to get all of the parts though, and I'm not sure if the stunt mode mileage counts towards the parts mileage either. The other option is to use the cheat codes to unlock what you wanted, then run the course - but that seems rather anticlimatic XD

It takes 2049 miles to get the fastest engine, and even the first lap of track 6 is only 5 miles long. You could get all the race coins and not even be 2% of the way to that mark. Even the longest Circuit mode would only net about 300 miles. Not to mention it doesn't even help unlock anything beyond the mileage-based parts. Stunt mode doesn't even have an odometer, much less count your miles toward unlocking parts. There is no way you're going to get out of using the cheat menu at least for parts, unless you want to claim the #2 spot for longest submission behind Desert Bus. Although, if you do go for the stunt coins, you'll have to get points to unlock tracks 2, 3, and 4 anyway, and then it's just a matter of reaching a bit further to avoid the cheat menu for tracks. And then there's the Super Speed cheat, which is its own beast and can't be replicated by any other means. It should be worth a couple seconds on the grand finale, but no more than that.

Yeah, a total unlock is going to be something nasty as far as duration goes.... You'd have to run the extreme circuit at least 7 times to get the parts.... hopefully working through the other circuits will help mitigate that amount of boredom.... but most of the TAS would be pretty repetitive to get to the fun stuff in stunt and obstacle course... Now if you had 4 players racing at the same time through most of that, with each doing something awesome to help break up the monotony, that would be awesome.... but again, that would also take a lot of time to set up....
