This poll is for everybody. Ok I know most of you are against HQx, but I think I found a new filter that may replace it. ScaleX filters. It's another of these filters, but this time, it looks closer to the original! Want to compare? Here are pictures of the same frame. All of these are 8x bigger than the original : Point HQx ScaleX So, what do you think of that? Should I still stick to the point-resized encodes I used to do?

I prefer HQx? Guess I'll expand. I prefer the look of HQx. The general look is cleaner overall. Scalex is nice for doing circles and things, but look at what it did to that lady's face; talk about fugly. Scalex does not appear to do shading very well, nor "crisp" lines. The lines look rather blob-y.

I prefer both Point resize and ScaleX over HQx. I place equal bias towards ScaleX and Point resize, both are good for their purposes but ultimately depend on individual viewer opinion and depend on which game of whom they are applied to.

My opinion is just use point. Humans are good at, among other things, filling in detail where it is absent. HQx et all attempt to do this for the human, but lacking AI like techniques will always fall short in how much they can interpolate. Besides, who watches TASes of video games at 8x normal size? That said, HQx looks better than Scalex, at least for the provided screen shot.

HQx looks better than ScaleX, to me.

They look the same to me as a concept. I mean, they may be technically different (HQx produces smoother edges while ScaleX produces more pixelated edges, and there are differences between the shapes of edges produced), but I think the relevant question is not whether you should use one filter which tries to smartly create interpolated shape edges or a different one, but whether you should use any such algorithm at all. I think the HQx poll answered that question.

To me ScaleX just looks like a worse version of HQX, and I still prefer point-resized.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. I'll live with point-resized encodes.

My opinion is that HQx it looks better than ScaleX. I think you have to change the point sizes

I don't see any substantial difference between HQx and ScaleX without knowing exactly what I'm looking for.
