I actually thought about tasing this game for a while, since I could never beat the last act as a child, but I never manage to have time. Here's what I would've done in this case: - Choose english on the first menu. There's not too much text in this game, but it seems to be the norm around here, so people might complain if you don't. - Choose the hardest dificult. Again, it's common to tas games on hard and there's really no reason not to. - Show the bonus levels or some other goal that force you to get more/all stars. This game is pretty straightforward (run, run, run and sometimes jump), so if you have to get out of your way to get some stars it'd make it more fun and differ it better from a normal playthrough. I think I saw some minor improvements, but I really can't tell without the .gmv and learning to tas first.

Hello, I'm a runner of the game, my PB is 22:19 in Any% Normal (http://www.speedrun.com/run/kz5reqey). I just discovered this TAS by Glink, I only knew about this TAS by Scratt & Jok Play Hit in 22:55 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsfPFeH5fdU. My sum of best is 21:36, thus these runs are greatly improvable (note that I do not count the language screen in my runs). I wanted to do a TAS of the game, but unfortunately I have no TASing experience. So I was wondering if people would be interested in doing a new TAS of the game. I can provide a lot of techniques that are not in this TAS. Some are not in my runs because they are too risky. Here are some examples : - Mountain route : no need to activate all detonators - Mountain skip (jumping on a detonator to reach a platform, skips ~10-15s) - Dragon skip (fall into lava after opening the cage : skips 19s) - Plant skip (same trick used at 1st boss, very hard to setup, but spectacular, and most likely to save time) - Gargamel fast kill with 2 hits - Fast stairs using medium jumps (TAS only) Let me know if you're interested. For the moment i'm still working on improving my PB (sub 22 minutes is possible), but making a good TAS of this game is definitely in my projects.

The Smurfs is pretty slowpaced game - it's nearly a best possible candidate for first TAS. Seems you already have pretty deep knowledges about this game, it's enough to make good TAS. TASer is sleeping inside of each speedrunner who ever thought that human's skills and reflexes are not enough to make flawless speedrun. Not afraid to make first step. Try to awaken your inner TASer. Just Do it! Look TASTutorial to learnd how to make a Tool Assisted Speedrun; Well, adelikat's tutorial about FCEUX for NES, but all these ideas and principles are applicable for other emulators too, like Gens for Genesis for example (or Bizhawk). Also read TasingGuide. Any questions (even the most stupid) you always can ask in The Newbie Corner. At first try to make rough weakly-optimised test run tas for full game. Just to learn how properly work with tools, and by trial and error learn basics of optimisation. And only when start your second more serious attempt and try to reach to limit of game (as close to the limit as possible at least) and make good TAS. Good luck!
I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Current projects: NES: Tetris "fastest 999999" (improvement, with r57shell) Genesis: Adventures of Batman & Robin (with Truncated); Pocahontas; Comix Zone (improvement); Mickey Mania (improvement); RoboCop versus The Terminator (improvement); Gargoyles (with feos)

Hello Baruch, I think the most qualified person to do this is you. Don't be afraid to try it out. I see the speedrun was made on Bizhawk, so you're already past the first hurdle. You probably know how savestates work. You can set the key for frame advance under Config > Hotkeys. (I use right shift, don't know what default is.) Hold the buttons you want to record for the next frame, and tap the frame advance button to record them. After that, it's just File > Movie > Record Movie and you're on your way. You can upload the first version here and probably get some suggestions on how to improve it. Good luck!

Hello, Thank you for your advices :) I already started the TAS, going well ! I am only using piano roll, and a few ram watches, I guess it's enough for now. I'll post here when I have something done :p

Hello, I already did a good amount of work on this TAS, so I thought it was the time to show my WIP. I don't know if it's the best thing to do, but I work in 2 times : first, I find an optimized route, second, I add some entertaining inputs. It ensures that the fun inputs I add don't mess with the optimality. Here is a TAS of all the levels until Volcano 2. However, Mountain 1 is not optimal and needs to be reworked, and I didn't try to manipuate ennemies in Swamp, so it may not be optimal. The other levels are as optimized as I could get. The only levels that are totally done (optimized + fun) are : Village, Forest 1 & 2, Bridge, Black Forest, Field 1, Dam, Cave 1. Some remarks : - I mostly dodge every star, because of the countdown at the end of the level. However, some stars are impossible to dodge (eg Mine), and some are not worth dodging (eg Cave 2). - I jump before the exit because for some reason it saves 2 frames - I do a cutscene skip at the 1st boss, I will also do it at the 3rd boss - I manipulate the ennemies cycles, for example some weird jumps in Lake 1 are made on purpose - My sum of best is 21:40, and at the end of the Mine the TAS is 1 minute and 22 seconds ahead I couldn't make videos bigger than 2Go with BizHawk, thus there are several parts : Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
