i dont think one has been made yet. i to would like to see a SMS speed run. i have quite a few fond memories about games on that system. mainly... Golvellious Spellcaster Pyscho Fox (would be quite interesting due to its high speed)

For me, it includes Sonic the Hedgehog. One of my first video games. I remember getting the speed boots and jumping from the beginning of the level to the end. What great memories...

He's talking about the earlier Sega game system, not the Genesis. There are plenty of good Genesis emulators.

That's what I'm talking about. Sonic the Hedgehog on the SMS. I also have it for Game Gear although I prefer the SMS version.

Isn't Sonic on SMS the exact same game as Sonic on MD (it was called Mega drive in the entire world except USA...), with the only difference being the graphics?

No, it had some different levels and they had different layouts and different bosses. Green Hill just had Eggman flying around and zooming at you. Bridge Zone had an Eggman similar to Hilltop in Sonic 2 for the MD I think. Don't know how to explain Jungle and I can't remember the rest except for Labrynth being underwater I think. Green Hill Zone Bridge Zone Jungle Zone Labrynth Zone Scrap Brain Zone Bridge Zone Act 2 was an automatically side-scrolling screen. Jungle Zone Act 2 was terrible when you had to jump up platforms and you couldn't fall back down as the screen would permanently move up and never down (the screen moves along with Sonic). I think that's the right order. I'd love to see a speed run of that game as getting emeralds (as you need them to get to the last level if I remember) aren't in the bonus stages and in the middle of levels. Added more of a sense of search your surroundings although they weren't that far off the main course usually. I also remember Sonic 2 for the SMS and Sonic Chaos as well. Sonic 2 was completely different than the Mega Drive version (Genesis for all the Americans and others who used that name). I don't remember it as much but it started with some underground zone and then there was a sky one a think and I don't really remember the rest. Was this the one with the Scrambled Egg Zone or was that Chaos? Edit : If you ever want to play the GG versions you can play them on Sonic Adventure DX

The best sms emulator is Meka, but it does not support rerecording. You can find it there: www.smspower.org Maybe someone will create a patch soon ^^

i'm waiting for SMS emulator for rerecordings too ;[ I have the better routes on my mind for more than 10 games... Alex Kidd High Tech/Miracle, Wonder Boy 2 3, Sonic 1 2 Chaos, Teddy Boy, Indiana Jones,and much others... but i can't realize this... this games are simple and so easy for made movies... :[

There is an Master System out there with Record called FreezeSMS, which is great. Maybe someone could ask nicely for the source code and implement it ;) http://freezesms.emuunlim.com/ SEGA Master System is one of my favourite and my dearest(?!) console. I got 29 originals to it and it is growing. I can mostly of the games in and out. =)

I hope you peoplez are still listening. I'll tell you something that might interest you because it is related and constructive. I've been doing some searching around for a SEGA Master System/Game Gear emulator that has a movie recorder built in. I came out with only one having the ability. It's eSMS V1.04. You might be interested. It can even encode videos into avi, but I didn't try it. However, my experience with the movie recorder (buttom combination recorder) was not satisfactory. The videos playd for the first time, but the next day they gatuitously screwed up. And it's not that there is a sram, or whatever file to delete, because he didn't make one.

Also, if anyone still cares for Master System/Game Gear, it's said that Gens 3 will include SMS/GG support and a nice fellow will try to add good movie support to it. Check out the "Work being done on Genesis/Megadrive rerecording" thread for more info.

eSMS is nice (it's called Emukon now), but sadly it doesn't cope well with save-states, which are what would be needed for a perfect run. Basically it inputs your key commands without reference to save sates, so if you are still recording and go back to an earlier save it'll carry on fine, but upon playback you will still act out the 'redundant' commands which were in your foul-up.

I've been in e-mail contact with the man who makes Emukon (the emulator formerly known as SMS). I told him what would be needed for speed-runs and he says it'd be pretty easy to implement. We may have a workable SMS/GG speed-run creator sooner than Gens.

Phantasy Star I would be a great speedrun if you took advantage of enough randomness!! Although wasn't it remade for the Megadrive? I'd definitely prefer that for a speedrun.

If you're willing to try it out, you can morph SMS and GG roms using Dr. SMS and re-record using Nitsuja's Modified VBA. The visuals are passable but the sound isn't quite right. It should be enough to people to play around with, though.

meka is now open source (check link posted earlier in topic), maybe a coder with enough free time and motivation would want to implement the missing features... cadmus, any news from the emukon author ? as for games I'd like to see : - Psycho Fox (fast paced game) - Golvellius (zelda's equivalent) ought to test them in DrSMS...

Are you saying that is the Phantasy Star 1 port? I'm pretty sure EOTM is its own separate entity, Phantasy Star 4.

I had (have, actually) a device which allowed me to play MS games on MD. Just lock-on and put in the MS cart, and it played just fine. It should be possible to dump Genesis-compatible roms through this device. Or to implement the same functionality as this device had in an emulator - I suppose this is what Gens is up to, if the previous poster was right. I remember some zelda-clone which had a name with Golden Axe in it, I think. That could be fun. Or Wonderboy dragon's trap, but that probably requires a lot of money hoarding for all the swords. Sometimes you cannot buy a better sword before you have bought the previous worse ones.
