Metroid any percent in 9:26
  • Emulator: FCE Ultra
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Uses a game restart sequence
  • Manipulates luck
  • Special: Uses password to get suitless Samus (does not affect gameplay (takes exactly 63 frames to enter))
I decided to tackle the any% run mainly because there isn't one anymore.
It's pretty much Arc's old route modified to fit using Up+A. It is 4:05 faster than Arc's previous any% run.
Making this movie was suprisingly easy, probably due to experience. There were a few difficult spots, though. Getting missles for the first red door in Kraid's lair after restarting after the Ice Beam was tricky. There are almost no monsters to kill for missles that won't slow you down. The hardest part, though, was getting into Tourian. Getting that Rio to line up just right took a lot of time. I somehow lost a time unit on the escape over my last run, and I don't know how.
I tried to spice up the run with extra kills and tricks when they wouldn't slow me down, or when I'm waiting. I like how this run turned out, although that doesn't mean it can't be improved.

FCEU displays a "0" at certain occasions (e.g. here). I know that the NES can display only a limited number of sprites per line, but this seems to be a game issue, right? One viewer thinks that you can see Samus' dying and Zoizite's reloading...

Indeed... makes you wonder whether it's a good idea to upload the videos to youtube at all. At least when people get them here, they'll see that there's a link to the original emulator as well; elsewhere, it seems that 50% say "omg u r teh gr8test speedrunner evar" and 50% say "wtf u cheatted moran". >.> Wider dissemination of the videos is good, of course, but only if people actually realise what the videos are (tool-assisted) and what they're not (speedruns or cheated).

It seems to me that people can be quite blind to certain things. Just look at how often the forum stickies are not read. If you'd put a large blinking text there they'd probably just dismiss it as ads or something. :/ EDIT: http://xkcd.com/c202.html
