I'm hoping to see somebody pick this up and run with it. It runs really well on our emulator. I don't admitably like how poor the touch controls are (at least while TASing), but it's still playable. So this video I'm providing is far from optimal, but consider it a strategy video for Level 1. Yes, my DK fight SUCKS. I'm aware of it. But I'm just getting interest going and providing some strategies. http://www.mediafire.com/?d2nctnzlmk2 General Ideas: 1. Kill off every Mini Mario except 1, unless it's impossible in the level (for instance, 1-1 you can't kill off any Mini Marios. 2. In the case #1 is impossible, try not to do a perfect chain (I failed in the video). Perfect Chain bonuses take time. For those not in the know, a perfect chain is to get all the Mini Marios in the door in quick succession. 3. Try to kill as many of the remaining Mini Marios at the DK fight during downtime. Any that are alive at the end make the points rackup take longer. 4. Remember that the D-Pad moves the screen around, so you can use that in combo with the mouse to do the run.

This game is fun, but it would be nice to see a 100% run of this game. It's by far more difficult that to just finish the level normally.

If this game were to be TASed, I have a feeling it would have to complete every level with a perfect score, because otherwise it would look really sloppy because the game is so easy. Personally I only played the first 3 or so worlds, after that I got bored with how easy and dumbed down the game is. Pretty much the only way to lose is if you try to lose. But getting all the coins and cards in each level while still getting the fastest time could be interesting and non-trivial.

there was an almost full TAS on YT, with all (at the time) highscores, I think 2 or so highscores have been improved since, it was really cool but I think it was taken down because an user complained saying it was giving away all the strategies to make the highscores, while he felt players should figure them out themselves (this came from a competitive player of the game so it makes sense) anyway, I made a random G-6 (1-6 in US version) TAS that gets the best possible score, improving by 1 second (10 points) over the previous TAS/human record, I think it's the first strategy that's only possible by TAS, I've tried it humanly and I doubt anyone will ever do it I wanted a bottom screen only encode to upload to my YT for it, but not knowing how to do it, I'm asking you guys if anyone can be kind enough to provide that for me, here I made a .rar containing edit: save+input file http://www.mediafire.com/?a57rbdea7oyxbw5 the ROM used is European version Flygon said he'll do it when he's not busy, but if someone else wants to do it already be my guest the input file is 3k frames, 1k of which are useless nonTAS'd menus which should be removed, the encode should start from the black screen before the level starts to the end of the input file with the score on screen

That's kind of stupid...

you can't understand it unless you competitively play the game

I don't hear this from other strategy games. Fire Emblem players make videos all the time of their low-turn playthroughs, something which the serious FE players are competitive about, and no-one there complains about how the mystery of the strategy is ruined. There are debates in other areas, naturally, but this is not one that comes up. Simple solution - if you want to figure it out for yourself, don't watch the TAS.

the problem comes from the fact that this competitive player I'm talking about is an user of an highscoring website, and people would watch videos and tie his scores, making them rank higher on that website (which is wrong) if there was no such website, he wouldn't have had a problem with sharing strategies

No-one works out strategies in isolation, unless they are a strategic genius or something. Besides, its one thing to see how something works, its a very different thing to copy it yourself. I can appreciate the problem here. However, I don't think the whole idea of having strategy videos is necessarily a bad thing. People who want to figure it out for themselves can do so - its called self-censorship. I know the idea of discipling yourself seems a bit odd, but it is certainly possible. Besides, videos are not the only way people can get help here, and I don't think having them out there will necessarily bias the highscore table too much.

You should ask the people of the Encoder's Corner. They will most likely have your answer. =)

p4wn3r was so kind to encode the movie not once but twice ^^ (there was a mistake in the first one) I've been away today so I wasn't able to upload it until now, but here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4WOXkxb7mo thanks again to p4wn3r for the encode :) for comparison, here is the human record made by me :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fngyL0but9E

found out the TASer didn't take down the videos, just put them as private, I got the privilege to view them he's Doraki on YT, maybe if you ask him he'll let others see them not sure if I posted this before but I started a full game TAS, have only done the first level, I did the second but right after I figured out a strategy that gives 10 points more so I have to redo it

I just got myself a partner for the full game TAS, we've been testing different things for entertainment and are up to the third level so far, I'll need to do some hexing work (might need help there) and, is there anyone who'd be willing to encode it bottom screen only? I need viewers' opinions about the level of entertainment

hexing went fine, here's the movie edit: outdated http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/455329300/MvsDK2TAS.dsm the second level looks kind of dull, but I thought abusing the same turn left-right thing everywhere would get boring for the encoder: ROM is (E) and you need Advanced Level Bus Timing OFF, I think that's all forgot to say I got the G-2 record on DS, so TAS still only has G-6 better than human record

I'm fucking great. I just figured out a new trick and new strategy to improve even G-4! this is probably going together with G-6 in the humanly impossible strategies :) I'll TAS it as soon as I have everything planned out frame perfectly

I keep finding new tricks and glitches with the elevators. G-4 is gonna be nightmares to optimize. I don't even have any idea what the fastest strategy is >_<. I'm thinking that the level can actually be improved by 2 seconds rather than just 1 now. more elevator glitchyness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPMaFUJtWbE

I was only able to optimize G-4 to 1355, 1319 would be needed for another improvement, I've gotten close to zipping through the wall from south to north in the bottom part of the elevator, but I don't even know how that happened so I'm not sure what to do with it, if it were possible to glitch through then maybe another improvement would be possible, but I won't test that as I have no idea how to trigger it meanwhile, I randomly played G-8, improved the record yet again, but also tied it on DS, I was really overrating the records in this game I'll get G-4 on DS before I TAS it probably, that one's very hard though a new elevator glitch vid is on its way, too vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnVpVTjmywk horrible quality for some reason

finished G-4 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1866303750/MvsDK2.dsm time is 1329, I lost 5 frames due to the elevator not synching with the top Mini properly, not sure if that's improvable with subpixel manipulation and the like just 10 frames better would give a new score improvement… at the end of the TAS I found a new glitch, the fact that you can move out of the elevator while in midair, I didn't test it a lot but my first try at it looked optimized already, jumping at the latest possible frame and moving away at the earliest

here's an encode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6ueLugmMWM finally got the bottom screen only to work, but the entertainment is horrible because of YouTube's 30 FPS… you can't see any of the quick turn arounds in mid air
