It's now possible, and without jailbreaking. We can now put our encoded MKVs and MP4s in our iDevice and watch them on the go. It's possible since VLC Media Player is made for that platform. It's still free! I've tried various MKV and MP4 files. Both types works absolutely fine, but there is an audio sync issue with deduped MP4s. Otherwise, everything runs at its native frame rate smoothly! But, VLC is not compatible with every iDevices. It won't work with the iPhone 3G and older (it requires at least 3GS) and with the two first iPod Touch generations (it requires at least the 3rd generation).

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Looking at the desktop version, I didn't see any frame advance feature. Same thing for the iPhone version.

Apparently VLC is also coming to android soon.

Not such a big deal because you can watch them on YT. I could care less about the fps or the quality.
