I actually never saw that technique... and since it's only a tryout, I thought I'd give it a shot :P Now, I know it's pointless to have it in a speedrun.
However, in the garden of Eden (of before if he appears before), I will surely try to disembowel a goo king to get his sword. just imagine how strong I will be with this sword, double focus, last resort and the ultimate infinity dragon (with radiance and trance, I believe)

I just crossed the desert. I warn you, it's pretty boring. I will find out at the end if item harvesting was worth it... IRT kaiser was about 200 frames shorter than simply using last resort and 2x focus.
I guess I will beat my own record for the longest movie... until FF7 is complete
I think FF7 will be shorter, though. If I counted correctly you're around the 6:37 mark by the end of WIP 6, and DavidK5's speedrun takes about another 2:35 from there to finish Deis's speech.
...Wait, that doesn't sound right. Just how much extra time are you taking, I wonder?
in a FAQ, I found out that the goo king has a drop rate of 1/256. Using charm (from meryleep) would make this twice as likely.
is it worth it? I can manage to make them appear often, depending on how I move
GKS has 40 more attack than the Dragon Blade, so it might be helpful. Plus it's good to laugh in the face of those who've tried getting it for days/weeks/months/years.

Shit, tell me about it. I played this game alot as a teenager and only accomplished getting the King to drop twice out of 100's of encounters and him not escaping.
Change my sig. again, and I will murder your pet fish.
man, it seems even harder than the meow staff and the medusa shield. And for some reason, goo king seems immune to disembowel. Plus, I seem to have to steal his green apple.
Stealing the Apple is required to get it I believe. I think because if the Goo King does drop something it will be the Green Apple. I think all enemies work this way too.
For comparison though, in Breath of Fire 2, the moment you start the battle, you can know if you'll get an item drop or not. This is simply because whether or not an item drops, and which one it is is determined at the start fo the battle.
I'm not sure if the same still stands true for 3, however.
Hoorah! I love BoF3! I love it so much that I made an account just so I can contribute to this run, even if remotely.
Nice work on the WIP, so far. I hope I can be of some help by mentioning some things I've noticed while watching the WIP.
Would it be faster to:
1) Just let Rei do the attacking during the early part of the game? Ryu and Teepo's damage/animation time do not seem to be outweigh another turn of Rei getting a critical and, say the Nue's, extra attack.
2) Manipulate Bombers from 'The Dump' to drop Ivory Dice? They drop at 1/128th chance. They could possibly be used for leveling Ryu up to an extreme level when killing the Dodai so you can later just manipulate criticals instead of opt'ing for super combo.
3) Defeat Claw and then defeat the Dodai as to get a Speed Boots drop from Claw at 1/32nd chance? They give +10 speed and might save you a few minutes of enemy attack animation.
4) Pick up a Flare Sword after Mt. Zublo for future fights? Both Dragon Zombie and Huge Slug take 200% damage from fire attacks. You can buy one from Urkan Tapa or give a Claymore to Beyd so that he turns that into the Flare Sword after his fight.
5) Get the Dragon Zombie to drop the Dragon Tear? I think you, janus, mentioned selling the Beast Spear for dough. This is probably excessive since the sell value is 30k zenny as well as the drop rate being 1/256. Ugh. But, just throwing out options.
6) Ignore Rei and not revive him during the Mikba fight? It doesn't seem like the time it takes to Influence him is worth the damage compared to Ryu's alone.
7) Use Frost Breath on the Gaist fight to kill the Torches so they don't do their Flare animation? Does keeping them around help you get EX Turns? Otherwise, I'd say wipe them out first.
8) Use Focus/Focus/Gambit instead of Focus/Gambit/Focus/Gambit in the Angler fight?
By the way, I would love it if you got the GooKing Sword. Although, I can't imagine it saving you more than one or two attacks against Myra.
I guess I should test those. I also heard about this lavaman, upon whom it is possible to cast fire-based magic and boost it experience yield to 2^16.
that early? I will definitely try
can i buy it in junk town? I know I was looking for a fire-elemental sword at some point
for 1/256, it might not be worth it. However, there are a few before the fight
I thought about it
no, they are vital for the EX turn. But then, I could always kill one
I can try
btw, thanks for the suggestion. Mastania is going to be jealous :p

Actually I was waiting until after the WIP was finished (have some other stuff to add) but w/e. Notes on the notes:
-Fighting Claw before beating the Dodai will lose a big chunk of time, and it's shaky whether or not the handful of extra enemy attacks it saves (in a TAS) will be worth it
-Can't get Flare Swords in Junk Town, and a lot of bosses through that part of the game are fire resistant/immune
-Use Aura on the Angler
Definitely worth it to level using the Lavamen, especially for Master bonuses.
Defeat Claw and then defeat the Dodai as to get a Speed Boots drop from Claw at 1/32nd chance

I only recommend it if you can get EX Turns early on with it. You might be able to if you remove armor from your party members but that puts you at risk of dying faster, but you can use Save States to manipulate the bosses so you shouldn't have to worry too much. Again, if you can get EX turns you couldn't get before without it, go ahead and grab it, otherwise don't bother.

You can buy the Flare Sword at the Urkan Tapa weapon shop. The weapon in Junk Town is the Barbarossa, which is Electric.
Get the Dragon Zombie to drop the Dragon Tear?

Not worth it except just to show off really.
Use Focus/Focus/Gambit instead of Focus/Gambit/Focus/Gambit in the Angler fight?

Two focuses is the max you can stack, so it might be worth it, and I believe Aura is the better attack to use for this fight.
It's been a lot of time since I last played the game, but seem to remember that you could OHKO the Zombie Dragon using Garr's Kyrie(or whatever his kill undead skill is).

Yep, but then Garr would have to be level 26. He does a good job being a meat shield. I think Ryu with a Flare Sword getting a few critical hits would optimal.
How's the run coming along, janus?
tired of trying to cheat luck for the gooking sword, I restarted...

No need to shop before fighting Nue. Let's see if I can do McNeil's manor without the silver dagger...
Since you restarted, you might want to give a try to PSXjin
I tried to convert (with lua) your old testrun but it desynced around the McNeil's manor, thought I managed to sync your current run(pjm movie), so you can try to playback you movie and see wich emulator look better for you.

not fishing is still about 5k frames shorter to the end of McNeil's Manor. Let's now see if I need all that money (80z, selling the ammonia...)

just got rid of the mutant. I guess I will save some time now that Nina can't resurect. plus, I will make a nice profit selling the soul gem
