I've noticed all these WIP-builds for PC and Linux and would really like them to be ported to Mac too. If this would happen, I'd love to begin speedrunning a couple of games that I have in mind. The versions available for Mac right now are just insufficient and my PC's are too slow to use for this purpose.
I just want to check if there have been any thoughts of this and/or the interest really is infinitly low, since it hasn't happened yet? I work as a programmer and with all computer related safety at a company, but porting program is something I've never tried.
However the reactions might be; thanks in advance.

If the emulator started out working on a Mac, and the additions were written in portable C, no reason you shouldn't be able to compile them on your Mac and use them.

So you mean that the WIP-versions isn't full versions of the emulators and just Add-ons? So I should be able to compile the additions for VisualBoy Advance and SNES9X and get it to work?
I'm going to be honest and blunt with you. If you want a computer to use for emulation (and gamijng for that matter) buy a PC, seriously
the selection of software for the mac is piss poor (especially for games) and anything the mac can do ,the Pcx can do better

I mean people add on features to an emulator. If the emulator isn't currently for Snes9x, don't expect to see if for Snes9x by the hobbyists here.

You should be able to compile the modified VBA and Snes9x source for Mac OS. The question is, did they make their changes in portable C? For VBA, I know that's not the case. For Snes9x, some of the features were tied into the Win32 GUI, some weren't.

bmecoli: The only games I play, is played just in emulators and since there is emulators for every console for mac (at least the same consoles that's available for PC) and they are more smooth than my friends computer with the double processor, so don't come with that crap. The WIP versions are the only ones i miss. I play many of these games every week.
I would never even consider buying a PC again. I began buying Mac a couple of years ago and since then I've realised a thing or two. The ONLY reason not to buy a Mac is if you are a hardcore gamer (which this isn´t about).

A thing I might consider is to install Linux beside OS X on my Laptop and do my gaming on it, since Bisqwit seems to be running Linux, the WIP's are ported there. Now just the issue of what distribution to install...
The software gap has all but closed.
Every big new game comes out on PC and Mac now, and Mac has already had all the key software for years. And everything a Mac can do, a PC can not do better. Not to mention macs are all but immune to adware/spyware and viruses.
And telling someone "tough crap, but a new computer" is pretty stupid anyway.

That is not a valid reason. Just to plug in any USB-mouse. Right-clicking is integrated into the system. I, myself use a Microsoft Cordless mouse with 5 buttons and a scroll-wheel with two direction scrolling which works seamlessly, not even any drivers was needed to support these features.

OK, but the only thing that made me react is that someone who haven't used a mac comes and tell me that they are totally useless, I should have known that you weren't that serious and also to get some people to change their mind, it seems like an impossible thing to do, since most humans in the world are afraid of changes and always crawls to the secure corner in their home. :)
This is fact: The most people running mac have tested both OS'es and made a choise, most Windows users have only tested Windows and think "I can stand this".
Well, I would still love it if anyone decides to port the emulators to mac, but anyways, I'll manage, but just maybe without becoming a speedrunner (well, maybe on Metroid for the NES - real console playing - , the only game I'm quite close to the current World Record, my best game is only 47 seconds too slow for any %).

Heh. Same here, except my personal laptop still runs on Windows. I still haven't switched completely yet, but I'm planning to do so.
To bmecoli: normally, I try to refrain from insulting members, but it's really difficult to remain friendly to people like you. You simply say that people who say that they've made a conscious decision to choose a different operating system--something greatly subjective and essentially insignificant--are stupid. First off, Mac OS X is a great operating system. It works great and has amazing stability, even when compared to Linux. The keywords "sense" and "simplicity" are relevant here. I don't see how you can, without giving any argument whatsoever, conclude that this system is lesser than other systems. Have you ever even used it for more than 5 minutes? Secondly, I'd like to tell you that you're most definitely not my favorite member for calling someone stupid for making a decision. Let's reassess the previous sentence. He MADE A DECISION. One with which you apparently disagreed. And you call him STUPID. I seriously would not mind if one of the higher powers on this forum decided to send you off to an early permanent vacation if this is your way of thinking. Please adjust your attitude towards other members' opinions. You're not going to make yourself very popular around here if you don't.

If I am wrong simply google Richard Bannistar. he makes all kinda of emulators. And Auido Overload the .rar music listening tool.

Thanks, but I know about the ordinary versions and have had them for quite a long time. It was just the advanced re-recording utilities I was after. But I agree with you Emulation.net is the greatest place for emulators for mac's.

Do any of y'all live in a place where you can go to "Taco Truck" at 1 in the morning and get all kinds of good food for drinking with? We have a ton of them out here in LA, they're amazing. All meat burritos with extra guacamole and no tomatoes at Fred's can't be beat -- with some good beer of course!
