But, you know, if your teachers are telling you to do it then you should probably follow their advice, if only to prevent having an argument with them about it.
Yeah, I only do it when I'm writing a paper or something else important. Otherwise, I never do it because it looks bad and it's just not the way I write. You're right, though; best to agree with the teacher and write the way they tell you to. When we type papers, though, it's in Times New Roman, 12 point font, and two spaces doesn't look too good with that font.

As an American, I remember once getting marked down in school for using a British spelling in a vocabulary test. I'd learned the word (outside of school) with its British spelling and didn't see any need to re-learn a different spelling when I already knew one correct one. My teacher evidently felt differently.
Thanks to Bram Stoker, I learned colour and other odd spellings. Colour still seems right to me. Shouldn't teachers be happy that we are learning outside of class?

Sometimes you end a sentence with an abbreviation, and two spaces will clearly disambiguate a sentence end from an abbreviation.

Yeah, God forbid students having opinions of their own. They must obey, conform, submit and become part of the brainless collective. Resistance is futile.

Fixed it for you I refuse to become part of the brainless collective It is much more fun avoiding punctuation :P The Romans did not use punctuation Theyalsodidnotusespaces but that makes it too difficult to read so I prefer using spaces They also did not have capitalization, and I agree with that as long as proper punctuation is used But yeah I also use 2 spaces after a period

Resistance only makes God's penis harder

I always type 2 spaces after a period because I think it looks nice. Like Dada said, it's a typographical style choice. Even though I know this forum eliminates extra white space, I maintain my style in my typing.

This. Whenever I'd encountered this in TASVideos wiki pages I'd edited, I erased the superfluous spaces. :P

I'm all for people deciding what to do for themselves. In fact, I doubt anyone got into as much trouble as I did during my school days simply because I wanted to do things my way. But not everybody is up for that sort of thing. If you can avoid arguing with your teachers or even getting a lower grade by adhering to some arbitrary style rule, then that might not be a bad idea.

That picture looks pretty cool. It should be put on his campaign posters for 2012. Too bad it's obviously fake.

Wait, you avoid punctuation but you agree with proper punctuation being used? I'm confused. :) I've been placing two spaces between sentences since I started typing on an electric typewriter. I think it would be very difficult for me to break the habit, and I've seen a few instances where it definitely added clarity. It does eat one more character in an SMS text message, though. I'll be quiet now (although I really wish I could solve this problem... :) A.C. ******

<offtopic> Pirate_sephiroth, please refrain from posting those large pictures into every thread. They are completely pointless and just take up space. I'll leave that one be, but be warned. </offtopic> I've never heard of this practice of putting two spaces after a period until this thread. Sounds a bit silly in my opinion, but oh well.

I believe he's trying to state that the thread has jumped the shark in the most humorous method he can think of, which I can't fault him for. The image could be smaller though. :) A.C. ******
