Honestly, it was mostly Rainbow being an ass. I felt more concerned with how dangerous a place Ponyville seemed to be. They really need to work on that, the death road in particular, kinda makes you wonder who designed that town in the first place...
Even the best player is limited by the speed of his fingers, or his mind's ability to control them. But what happens when speed is not a factor, when theory becomes reality?
I guess it's just that when episode shows good amount of "positive" side of character fixing 'friendship' problem pleases me.
Like, Sisterhooves Social - Sweetie Belle want to have some fun activities with Rarity, but Rarity denies every time - some negative side here. Halfway episode, Sweetie Belle stop liking Rarity and visits Applejack family instead. And then Rarity start showing positive side, she realizes everything Sweetie Belle has done wasn't so bad, wants her come back and have fun together but Sweetie Belle denying too. Then Rarity go around fixing problem secretly the correct way. I enjoy this episode very very much.
But on other hand, The Mysterious Mare Do Well. Rainbow Dash show her positive side for first 3 minutes and a half, and then begin to show egotism for the rest of the episode, 18% good side, 82% ego side. "Look at me, I am teh awesome!" and then fail to do anything cool after 6 minutes and onward. I dislike that type of behavior in ANY cartoon or tv show. I don't understand why they couldn't go tell RD to stop bragging. I also don't understand why they need to put on masked costume, have they forgotten the lesson back at Boast Busters that it's fine to show off talent at appropriate time? Seem to me that they just put on masked costume just to annoy RD. (See what I meant from my previous post?)
So many parts in this episode don't really connect together and poorly executed. I wish they could handle it better like remove RD chasing after masked mare scene and add in scene where all the masked mares can't rescue or save the village or something and then RD come save the day. I don't know if that will work, but I'd prefer to see that instead.
Oh I forgot to add, I hope they don't keep that kind of lame behavior on RD. Seem to first appear on previous episode and then again this episode. That really ruins her image for me.
RD isn't the kind of pony that you can tell to stop bragging. RD would only get angry and accuse them of being jealous.
The idea is to show that you shouldn't let popularity get to your head. If they did it without the masked costume, everypony would start chasing them around and only reverse the roles. Also the above point...
The moral of Boast Busters was that you shouldn't show off your talents in an offensive way and it is fine when used in a beneficial way. RD was using her talents to help ponies in danger and showing them off in a way that doesn't offend other ponies.
Then RD will be popular again and no moral learned...
I can't really express my thoughts into words very well, but you made valid points anyway. I understand they made all these in there to make episode to be meaningful and teach children that 'Bragging too much is bad'.
If that what they wanted to do, they succeeded with that. But I didn't enjoy how they put stuff together with almost no positive stuff on the end... I had this thought "This isn't My Little Pony anymore, it's ponified Darkwing Ducks.. these characters are going one-dimensional" and other stuff in my mind.
Well that can't be avoided, when there's prettiest, there's always ugliest. When there's best, there's always worst.
Becoming Popular (The Pony Everypony Should Know).
That is all.

OMG you mean Hasbro DARED to enforce its copyright? lulz
Still I am surprised at how lax they've been about letting full episodes of the show stay up on YouTube; this is probably because unlike a typical show, where unauthorized streaming kills ad revenue, this one is the ad, and Hasbro makes much more from the toys than from the little ad spots on The Hub.
