Some time ago I made two videos where I get the PERFECTBONUS! in CP1 and CP2. Link to video Link to video I'm bettering now and the time the videos are really improving. This being so, it might perhaps be possible to help me create a Speedrun of Sonic2 ALLPERFECTBONUS. The objective is to get the PERFECTBONUS (50000 points) at all levels. I am experimenting with sonic just to see the best routes in CP. For those interested in this, I invite us to discuss the various levels and cooperate in the work. I think really should be playing Sonic and Tails to make it easier to collect rings. Remember that you must pick up all the rings and boxes of 10 rings to get the PERFECTBONUS.

Nope, you don't need the 10 ring boxes at all. In fact you can actually finish a level with 0 rings and still get a perfect: you just have to pick up all the loose rings first. Furthermore, not all levels can get a perfect (as far as we know so far), since there are some rings stuck in walls that we haven't been able to breach. As far as I know, Aquatic Ruin 2, Mystic Cave 2, Oil Ocean 2 and Metropolis 2 can't yet be perfected. Having said that, it'd be awesome to see some of those levels solved!

You mean you do not need to pick up the boxes of 10 rings and no matter if an enemy takes my rings. I'll do the test. Thank you. It would be a challenge to improve these areas! If successful, it would be impressive to some. DO NOT BELIEVE?

The 10-ring boxes aren't necessary, and you can even take hits and still qualify. But you have some stages coming up that might be a problem: -Aquatic Ruin 2 has some rings embedded in a wall; -Casino Night 2 has a branching path where both branches meet a "point of no return" with rings past those points, so unless a zip is possible there's no way to take both paths; -Mystic Cave has some rings way up in the ceiling that only Knuckles can reach, and only with a very well-timed glide. Special stages have perfect bonuses available too, so keep special stage 7 in mind. Maybe even special stage 4 with its 5-ply triangle at the very end. The ideal of a perfect bonus at every results screen likely isn't possible, but if you want to see how close you can get...

I'll see the best possible and amazing, all this time I could better understand what must have a Speedruns and I've learned has improve my movies. Maybe it can not be perfect, but can be entertaining. Another thing, I do not want to touch EH1 and EM2. These areas I do not like at all.

Here's the first thing I could do in Chemical Plant. Download Here I play with Sonic alone, collecting all the rings. Although I admit that it was not easy to find the paths to take. It was more difficult to use normal Sonic that SuperSonic shown at the beginning of this post. These were the times:
Chemical Plant Zone 1 2:01 Chemical Plant Zone 2 2:21
I do not think is the best quality, but it is fast.

That was awesome, always wondering which path you'll take, an interresting playaround for sure. If you do Mystic cave or Aquatic ruins I'll shit bricks ;P

Now I try to do Aquatic Ruin 1 and tell me that there will be problems with Aquatic Ruin 2, because there are rings stuck on the walls and are they impossible to take

In Aquatic Ruin 2 it is possible to get those rings but you have to have Tails so the sprite doesn't show up on screen and he can get the rings. This isn't the only level that does this either. There are other levels in this game that have rings in unreachable places. Casino Night Act 2, Mystic Cave Act 2, Oil Ocean Act 2, and Metropolis Act 2 have rings that are stuck inside of walls and/or are in a high, unreachable place. The only way to get those rings is with debug mode. If you want to know how many ring you collect before a perfect bonus the address is located at $FFFF40.

Mmmm ... Aquatic Ruin 2 really be a problem, plus I do not want to use debugging. Try to see the hidden rings with Sonic Esrael Editor 2 program. I could not understand it very well but I think sonic only really be impossible, if not find a way. Sorry, GlitchMan, but the data you give me still I do not know to use.

There is a place that has maps from this game where it shows all the ring placements, item box placements, enemies, and the level collision detections. http://soniccenter.org/maps/sonic_2

I found a ring in Aquatic Ruin 2 that is impossible to take. Maybe can take it with Talis, he can stay a little out of the game screen and take the ring. Although the place is a little up and is under water, so that the movement is quite slow.

I can't attest to patched games being accepted on the site, but some rom hacks have. I think moving the placement of a few rings would fall under the former... Plus, in Casino Night, you might have more of a problem than just editing out a couple impossible rings. You'd have to either rework the level or take a whole section of rings out.

Wow awesome clips Felipe. Just went and watched a 336 ring run (non-tas) on AR2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncRPi8t6G9A&feature=channel_video_title. I'm guessing you can use this as a base for how many rings to get. Maybe leave that ring in the column the last area to be in the run through so there's less to edit later if you do decide to collect it at a later date. Also good luck on the 'point of no return' sections on CN. I'm sure there's a zip/glitch you can abuse for it.

I think the goal is unusual enough that it would be better to submit it with the intent of having it published as a demo run. As such, I would recommend making a small hack to either move the unreachable rings or decrease the number of rings needed for a perfect bonus.

I'm torn on this idea. It would be cool to see a perfect bonus on each stage, but at the same time it's sort of using the idea "doing ______ is impossible so I'm hacking the game to make it possible." I've had plenty of moments in games that I've TASed where I've been very very close to breakthroughs that would change the whole run, but as of yet are still impossible to attain... In these cases I don't think hacking the game is appropriate, because once you hack a game to make your run better, there's no stopping you from hacking the game until your character moves at 700 pixels a frame and can go in a straight line to the end. I realize the ring case is a little different, but I'm just stating why hacking the game to achieve a result leaves me a little uneasy. Felipe, have you considered a "high score" run? Considering the amount of points you get from the perfect bonus, you might end up going for this bonus on the levels where it is applicable. However, this might entail annoying repetitive tasks (I'm thinking Casino Night Zone).

There is no real "high score" in Sonic games, especially from 2 onwards get as many points as you can -> 50000 points = 1-up -> die -> get as many points as you can -> 50000 points = 1-up -> die -> ... How about "high score, no deaths"? Sure get as many points as you can -> enter a special stage -> fail the third ring requirement by one ring -> get as many points as you can -> enter a special stage -> fail the third ring requirement by one ring -> ... (at least this is finite rather than infinite, though) To get it to work it should be a very arbitrary goal such as "high score, no deaths, no special stages". I therefore think "high score" would be a bad idea.

I see your point, but the key thing here is that this sounds more like a demo run to me in the first place. It may help the run's judgment if Felipe (or whomever) specifically nominates it as a demo and not as a full-blown, speed-based TAS. If it's already going to be a demo run, why not just make it an outright hack? As I see it (and one of the judges should pipe in to back me up if I'm right), a run on a subsequent hack that's less invasive would obsolete the old run, regardless of speed. That seems fair to me.

There are more traditional run types. Sonic2 still needs a Super Sonic unlocking 100% run doing.

In fact there is already a movie that collects the 7 emeralds. But this does not run throughout the game. Someone (i dont remember who) said that Super Sonic would not be very usable throughout the game. So, Only is a demonstration collecting the 7 emeralds in Emerald Hill Zone.
