Nice run so far. I had forgotten about that shadowblade insane level chaz trick. It's cool to see tsu cause so much damage.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/791880846/Phantasy%20Star%20IV%20%284%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv now 1450 frames ahead. saved 130 frames against DF 2 by killing chaz earlier and 60 against DF by killing Wren. If he can survive PD, then Rika will be able to gain one more level

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/758976014/Phantasy%20Star%20IV%20%284%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv i stroke PD dead nearly 2k frames earlier (500 frames come from an unlikely strategy against PD 3). but that's not it! If my feeling is right, then I might not even need the repair kit... which means I could use raja nad his st fire

yup, I'm still working on the game (any%) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/638558461/janus3-phantasystariv.gmv This time, I am trying the run with the Silver Tusk. I am only 1080 frames behin after defeating Lashiec. I saved nearly 2400 frames in-battle thanks to the Tusk (and some more against the Specter, since only Rika attacked). If my feelins are right, I might not even need to heal against DF 2, which would make the silver-tusk run quicker

janus, have you tried using Chaz's Earth on the first Igglanova? It's not considered a "boss" by the game so it's not immune to paralysis. Not killing the Xanafalgues would cost you 11 XP but that's not an issue since the Shadowblade fight alone would be enough to get Chaz to level 4. Regarding the Shadowblade fight, it might also make sense to try to get the Shadowblade to kill Alys. Chaz still won't be in danger of hitting level 5 and it'd push Rika up to level 4. She'd have one more point of str and some extra agi, and it may beneficially butterfly effect the whole run saving a turn or two here and there.

"have you tried using Chaz's Earth on the first Igglanova" No I haven't, as I never thought about it. I will first see if getting the silver tusk is worth it. I might also try NOT getting the genocyclaw, since holy elemental is quite strong. but should your trick work, it means I could use a macro against igglanova " try to get the Shadowblade to kill Alys." What do you mean? Get Alys killed during my fight to get the shadowblade?

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/622221345/janus3-phantasystariv.gmv getting the silver tusk is now officially shorter. I have saved almost 4000 frames of fighthing, despite losing some 3300 frames to get the tusk. I am 873 frames ahead of the last published run. Low, let's try Tristal's trick of Earth... PS: Tristal, your trick might just work. Alys' vortex take much more time than Gryz' attack. By keeping Hahn alive, I might be able to cast Vision. If not, then Gryz can still withstand more of Juza's attacks

Damn. Using Earth shortens the igglanova fight by 655 frames. I'm 513 frames ahead (setting up the macro takes 120 frames)

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/564424919/janus3-phantasystariv.gmv Tristal was able to save me another 277 frames, this time against Juza. Now 885 frames ahead

Sorry, I was confusing the enemy's name, I meant to refer to Shadowsabr. Your WIP that I was working from had the battle go as follows: 1st round: Hahn dies Gryz gets hit, but survives Ripper dies Rika attacks for some reason 2nd round: Shadowsabr casts Deban Shadowsabr dies Battle ends Instead, the best manip is likely to be: 1st round: Hahn dies Alys dies: you will likely need to make her attack instead of defend so it takes one hit, and if this involves a macro she won't be faster than the Shadowsabr so it skips her turn Shadowsabr dies Rika defends 2nd round: Ripper dies, if at all possible before its turn comes up, likely via Gryz' Crash again Battle ends

I have serious doubts that casting Vision is ever worth it in frames; you should be able to manipulate criticals and evades just by skipping frames as necessary. But try it out!

Watching the latest WIP now. It's not quite ideal to have Rika attack round one of the Shadowsabr fight; would it make sense to set the macro up for defense? We only use this macro for Igglanova 2, both rounds of the Shadowsabr fight and Chaossorcr, right? Seems like Rika could defend for all of those and maintain/gain frames. (You'd lose 2 setting the different macro, but I'm sure you'd gain more than two back round 1 of the Shadowsabr fight.)

Is it faster to manually have Rika fight the last round of the Juza fight? I noticed you didn't use the macro.

Shadowsaber ALWAYS attacks first. Making Rika attack makes it cast deban, which gives me an extra 10 frames of manipulation and avoid death. As for Ripper, I've never been able to have Gryz do Crash first

Gryz is gone by then. In the regular speedrun, Rika uses eliminate only once, so I don't need a macro

Ok to all of the above. Would it then be possible to kill Shadowsabr on the first round? I don't know if you can manipulate Rika/Chaz to do it by themselves profitably.

I never tried it... It would be much harder for sure, since I would need a perfect round (kill Hahn and Alys, have Gryz kill Ripper and the 2 others do Shadowblade). I can try Update: now a 1045 frames advantage after Gy-Laguiah. I don,t know why I created that extra macro in the other run...

You have a little wiggle room to have Alys potentially get an attack in, but you'd have to change the macro around to do that so I doubt it's worth it.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/513650210/janus3-phantasystariv.gmv Although Zio's fight was impossibly difficult, I am still 958 frames ahead of the previous fight

Looks good! Only thing I can think of to test is whether or not Wat is faster/better than Flaeli.

Zio is immuned to water http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1359645043/janus3-phantasystariv.gmv I redid Zio with the strategy from the previous run (use the flaeli macro once more) and saved nearly 200 frames. Now 1167 frames ahead of the previous speedrung
