Janus is making some noise in the submission thread for his latest PSIV run about a 100% run, so I figured a topic would be a good idea. Here are my suggestions for the criteria a 100% run should satisfy:
  • Use the Talk/Mumbl command every time the dialog it provides changes.
  • Show all references to past games.
  • Show all dialog from NPCs.
  • Get all unique items.
  • Do all sidequests.
  • Get all of Demi and Wren's extra parts.
Anyone else have anything to add? I'd personally say that a 100% run should show off all of the combination attacks, but I think that'd take too long because of the extra leveling to get high-level techs and skills.

I think there's a lot of stuff in your suggestions that need to be cut out. Generally, 100% definitions include tangible things, like all items, rather than dialogue changes and so on. So, going from that list, the unique items, sidequests and extra parts would be included, but everything else would not.

I'd say only the last three are needed. In a TAS the dialogue would probably go by so fast as to not be worth showing.

"References to past games" was janus's idea; I just put it down here and took it the extra mile and said "all dialog" too. As for the text going too fast, you can always slow the TAS down. (Or at least you can use frame advance, as Gens doesn't actually have a throttle function, just frameskip.)

I would agree that all dialogues/mumbles would be too much (except maybe that stuck dezolisians in jut). However, the reference to the past would be interesting as for the combination attacks : since it would probably go on with a dopped-up chaz (with the shadowblade), some of them would be missing.

Would 100% infer leveling all characters up enough to get all their skills and techniques?

if that's the case, then I can only think of the sandworm near the ladea tower...

a few more thoughts - I would probably not seek a run with all spells. This would imply switching characters before going in the edge to show combination spells (with Hahn and Raja, mainly). However, since I will do the Silver Soldier, I might get circuit breaker - I would still use the Shadowblade. By fighting the sidequests bosses, Rune and Rika would ahve higher levels. - There's one sidequest I might have difficulty doing : the one where I must save the girls from Aiedo (80k meseta)

You can just do that quest after you do Silver Soldier and you'll have the meseta you need from doing that. EDIT: For showing off combination attacks, I would say to show off what you can as they come available in the course of the run.

On my way out, I will stop in Miles; should I show the scene with Saya? After Alys gets sick, I can still show the books in her library (run hedgehog, run). also, I think I will rush the jobs at the guild once I get back on Motavia (after DF 2)

While the scene with Saya would be nice, I don't think it's really necessary; she's an extremely minor character. EDIT: You might consider at least doing The Ranch Owner before you leave Motavia the first time, to get some power-leveling for Rika and Rune.

It means I have a superfluous macro. Let's see what I can do for the guild jobs now...

here's an update After completing all tasks but the silver soldier and man with a twist, I noticed Rune would still be shy of getting tandle (in order to do circuit breaker). In order to do so, Wren must die more often. Since he gets over 35k experience from the sidequests (and that's before King Rappy), he will most certainly be able to get to 244 hp, the minimum he needs to withstand megid. He only need 48k experience to get to that level (from the moment I get him). So I have to go back to DF 1. Also, I don't think I will be able to do Destruct. I don't think Rune will be able to reach level 35 and get legeon.

would it be publishable? I will soon publish a complete WIP, but will try something different afterwards (buy one more telepipe and escapipe so chaz can gain 17 levels against the boss in the courage tower)

Whether or not it's publishable depends on whether or not it offers a sufficiently different experience from the any% run (in which case it could be published separately) or if not, whether people prefer it to that run (in which case it might obsolete the any% run.)

I was thinking of a "blast from the past" run. - do all sidequests - play around - entertainment trade offs (showing references to the past)

I was able to get megid, but I needed guard mail Should I fight Propallus (DF from PS1)? It's hard, but it's quite a bit of experience. And with my stats, I should be able to take it down in 3 rounds
